Bro coming back to this as someone who really isn't the biggest Cole fan, I really don't understand how someone can say The Off Season is his best work then call this his "Worst project to date" Like most these tracks feel like they were made around the same time as his last album tbh, Lyrically its on the same level if not slightly better in spots, Performance wise Cole keeps that same energy as the last one & Production is pretty solid for the most part. I feel like the Kendrick stuff 100% Had an effect on how people perceived this mixtape when it released. I feel thats def the case here, Saying there's only one song for the whole thing (Sticks & Stones) where Cole shows up is pretty wild & 7 Minute Drill as the worst track? Like yeah it was a weak diss and the production on the first half was pretty wack but Cole did have good flow on the track and the Conductor beat switch was pretty nice ngl, Like there's no way that's the worst track over something like Fever, Which is one of the most uninspired, Bland and boring Drake sounding tracks I've heard. Overall, Listening to this project with an unbiased ear, I think this Mixtape is like a light 7/10, Nothing too mind-blowing but for what it is, I think there are plenty of decent cuts to keep it from being bad, 3/10 is pretty harsh IMO.
@Harveygregorxotwod9 ай бұрын
I really think Cole with how mediocre his discography is would benefit from someone curating or executive producing an album for him with an interesting concept or underlying theme and helping him because we know he can rap well. I just honestly don’t think he’s really all that creative when it comes to the soundscape especially when he’s not doing his own production even though this has proven to be an issue. And whilst drakes albums have fallen off a cliff he used to be a solid curator and obviously Kendrick is the best at it. I feel that’s the big difference in the quality of projects and I think Cole could really drop a damn near flawless album if he did that

@@endgame6782saying he doesn't mindlessly glaze Kendrick is actively glazing fantano 💀. He glazes Kendrick's super hard. Literally if 7-minute drill wasn't on this album he would have given it a 6. One song would have been the difference by three points. And a six is still too low for this album. But my point still stands. He was offended that his favorite rapper got dissed so he gave the album a terrible score. It doesn't matter that Kendrick wouldn't release something like this. Kendrick invents himself each time he drops an album. I'm saying if he would have and it was literally an identical album to scratch out J Cole's name on it and put Kendrick's name on it and all the verses are in Kendrick's voice with the same lyrics he would have given it an 8. Cole's best thing is being honest to himself. The worst work he's put out is when he strays from that, and he's so caught up in chasing after other artists that he often tries to copy their sound or style and then releases a shit project or song. Out of every "big" artists in hip hop today, J. Cole has the least identity of all of them. You know what a Tyler the Creator, Playboi Carti, JID, or Future album are going to sound like and what they are trying to achieve. J. Cole has very little personality and I'd much rather an artist like Frank Ocean take his time and go live life and come back and release music when he has something interesting to say versus Cole just pumping shit out over a Griselda beat and talking in circles for 4 minutes even if it technically sounds good.

Melon head been dropping bad reviews to jcole and many rejected his stance and not to long ago many embraced this album, now after the apology they’re butthurt and realized how right needle drop and many critics towards Cole were right about his previous project. While Cole’s trying to out drop 5 songs about how great he is, Kendrick dropping the meaning of the album and ea song representing different topic.
