I had an aunt that was gruff and rude like his gram. The last time I saw her I was maybe 22. She looked at me with a grimace and said gruffly "Well,.. you didn't turn out half bad." Later everybody in the family told me that was the nicest thing she had ever said to anybody- by far. Seriously.

I can't imagine that kind of pain of seeing someone you love so much and have so deeply connected with look at you and not know you. YOU have all the memories, the laughter and tears, the separations and reunions, the hardships and triumphs, but they can't remember any of it. That is a huge fear of mine, to have my mother or anyone not even remember who I am, and what I mean to them. My heart goes out to you ❤
