When I was 11, some dude tried to lure my friend and I out of my front yard. He was all, "I have beer and cigarettes," and we were so surprised at not being offered candy that we started laughing our backsides off and he got mad and cussed at us and drove off. Then, another time, some guy rolled up on a group of us and asked for directions, and all of us, except one kid, were offering directions at a distance. But that one kid started walking straight at the car, and we are all yelling at him, and his sister jumps forward and grabs his arm and smacks his head, "are you trying to get kidnapped, stupid?" So, we all start laughing and the guy gives up and drives off. Kidnapper or not, no clue, but don't ask kids for directions, it's sketchy.

Today I learned if you're lost and a adult you should just stay lost, especially if your only option for directions is a group of kids. This is some of the saddest shit I've ever read. What has the world came to. I mean what's the guy gonna do kidnap the whole squad that's just plain stupid? The kids who were giving him directions from a distance are some good and smart kids but you saying don't ask kids for directions in general. That just seems so ignorant to me. I think the lesson is strength in numbers and keep your distance from strangers. Not adults shouldn't talk to children at all. Like maybe he only felt comfortable approaching them for directions because it was a whole group. I know that would put me more at ease to ask them. However sorry for rambling I just feel the statement "Don't ask kids for directions, it's sketchy." is totally naive like the boy who approached a strangers car in your story...

@@hiddenone5456 You know what. Fine, if you are lost in a rural area or out in the woods and the only people around are a group of kids or even one kid, you can ask for directions. But no, not in the middle of a city of a huge city. Just no. There are stores you can go into every few blocks or more. Back then, pay phones with books in them, books which had maps in them. So, unless you are in a situation where there is no phone access and your odds of seeing another human are super low; don't ask kids for directions, it's sketchy. And children have been snatched out of groups, especially back in the day when the kids would have all had to run back home to get a parent (if one was even home) to call the police. It is nice that you didn't grow up in the surroundings that I did, but children were taken in broad daylight, in front of witnesses in many cases. That doesn't happen anymore because children aren't allowed to play outside unsupervised for hours a day and because everyone has a cell phone.

It cracks me up how kids interpret reality. I have a 40 year old adrenaline junkie son who scares me with his adventures. However, when he was 3 he wouldn't walk over puddles after a rain because he thought he would fall into the sky. Later in life I was the children's director for a domestic shelter. The first thing I enforced was "NO scary movies for the kids". Some of the mom's were using horror films as punishment. Like "You better behave or Chuckie will get you!" I always remembered how my son was confused over what was "real".

@@Poseidon650 My point that went along with Julian's experiences is that kids don't have a mature understanding of what is going on around them and if they are under 4 they can't tell the difference between what is a cartoon/movie/sky puddle and what is real. For a domestic shelter where kids have had a lot of violence they do NOT need horror movies. They had LIVED horror movies.

I was raised in a strict, religious family but I still had a lot more freedom as a child. No Mom or Dad to call you on your cell phone because today I am 46...we had no cell phones. I remember coming from the mall late. We stayed until it closed! My gf and I missed the last bus from Bloomfield to East Orange so we walked. I remember just calling my home number from a pay phone so my parents wouldn't flip the hell out. We got home close to midnight. It was a great teen day. Food, shopping and checking out boys.

11:06 That was a cool moment. He baited everyone into thinking it and having someone verbally say it made everything feel interactive. And she said nothing else... Imagine the restraint it takes for a loud person to speak up once and simmer down for the rest of the show. Usually with a taste of blood, they keep going. Guess a crowd doesn't have to be quiet to be a good crowd.

Pretty funny...I was also a latchkey kid growing up about 10 miles from this guy. Little nicer neighborhood but instead I was the poor kid in Marin Co. i have the same memories of playing by myself; riding my bmx bike down the frontage road, up and over the pedestrian overpass and over to the local middle school to play with frogs, tadpoles, salamanders and newts in the creek next to the school. It was little kid heaven.
