@@larrylewis1661 The Tyson Fury farce of a fight with Whyte pales in comparison. Yet, soon thereafter, they had the nerve to suggest that Tyson Fury is the greatest British heavyweight ever and TBE, in general. What a joke… By the way, much like the Larry Holmes-Cooney fight, the Wilder-Fury trilogy was built-up as a race war. It is most probably because of this, as to why they’d suggest that Fury is the “best ever”. I know many YT Americans were rooting for Fury…💁🏽♂️

He did not want to see Larry Holmes Knocked out. Its a shame people judge Larry Holmes without looking at his character and what he accomplished.

29:18 Ali: "Get him for me" Tyson: *nods* In an interview, Mike Tyson said these words were spoken to him right here, as Ali had previously fought Holmes and lost via 10th round TKO, one of 5 defeats Ali suffered, and one of Ali's worst fights. He was devastated, but Mike was vengeful. He called up Ali and said said quote: "When I get big, I-ll get him for you and restore your honor". That was in 1980, and 8 years later he fulfilled that promise.

@Exar That's the thing about Holmes tho. He NEVER fought an entire fight on his toes, moving and jabbing. That takes a ton of stamina, and most fighters can't do it. Holmes plodded around a lot. But Tyson was a bad matchup for Holmes. The way you KO Holmes is to mug him. Clock him fast and hard- get him hurt, then jump on him. Tyson was literally the only guy able to do it. Notice how Tyson hits Holmes: Super fast lunging straight right for the first knockdown. Winging right power shots for the 2nd. Then Tyson stalks him, Holmes able to block most, but it's the "wild" looping right hands that put Holmes out. You have to find a way around Holmes' guard.

@@presence5426 ...I didn't know you were dense also. Holmes came out of retirement to fight Tyson. The former had to lose sixty pounds in approximately six weeks to get in shape. I think Holmes big mistake in this fight was underestimating Tyson’s endurance. Holmes came out hard in the fourth round thinking that Tyson had burned his reserves... he was wrong. Another round or two of the ranged jabs and holds and it might have paid off. The problem with fighting Tyson in that time period was that any mistake pretty much cost you the match. Tyson was in his prime when I was a kid and he was this iconic unbeatable figure for much of my early life. Up until the last few days I haven’t watched any of his fights for probably over a decade and the thing that really stands out is how much smaller (shorter) he is than his opponents. He had to be aggressive in that weight class, if he wasn’t he wouldn’t ever land a punch. Also his deltoids were ridiculous, it looks like someone strapped half of a surf board to his back and painted it to match his skin. He was a beast, with his speed and power the real shocker is that he never killed anyone in the ring.

This is a tough watch< Holmes was my favorite fighter growing. up. This wasn't a "revenge" fight as Tyson and many have claimed. Holmes had no choice in fighting Ali. Holmes backed off many times during that fight and was begging the ref to stop the fight. Holmes was in a no win situation. I used to go to Holmes Restaurant in Easton when I lived in Bethlehem PA. I talked with him many times. The first I came in with my 8 year old son. We noticed him sitting alone. I didn't approach him, because I did not want to bother him. After we ordered our food, he looked at us and said "hello fellas", I replied "how's it going champ?". He just smiled and "I think I'm told old to be called champ" and laughed. I told him he was my favorite fighter and started named all the fights I watched. He then invited us to sit with him and he bought us dinner. Spoke with him several more times after that. Such a kind, humble, gracious man, who was a helluva fighter in his day.

I agree as well . Holmes at this age while still a good fighter ! didn't have the speed and reflexes he did when he was younger . The young Larry Holmes could have moved all night .. on his toes , and kept away from Mike . And with Mike's short reach would have been difficult to catch Larry . You saw a glimpse of it when he did it briefly in this fight , and then stopped . He stopped because he knew he couldn't keep up that pace like he used to at 38-39 .

Oh what complete bullshit. Ali insisted on the shot at Holmes, his old sparring partner. Don King forced Holmes into it for Ali's benefit. And Holmes honored it by giving him a shot. Holmes felt awful seeing Ali as a shadow of himself and he did all he could to carry Ali in the fight. Fighters want fights. Holmes himself was likely happy for the shot at Tyson. Stop repeating this stupid shit about 'revenge'

This fight is proof to me that 86-88 Iron Mike is the greatest heavyweight to enter the ring. Yes, Holmes was out of his prime by this point, but you have to remember that this is his only loss by KO despite fighting plenty of hard hitters in their prime such as Holyfield, Shavers, Mercer, (mercer and holyfield being after this fight) and none of them could finish him off. Just goes to show you how scary Tyson was at this time.
@TaxmanTV2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I know there are some that say Ali in his prime would beat him but I don't think so. Tyson proved he can destroy great fighters with a bigger reach and Tyson's prime was essentially just a quicker, more tactical, and harder punching version of Joe Frazier (who beat Ali). The problem with Tyson is that his prime was way too short from poor lifestyle and mgmt decisions. If he stayed disciplined and hungry I think he could've retired undefeated.

NNNNOOOOOOO,.. THE GREATEST IS ACTUALLY,.. OFFICIALLY MUHAMMAD ALI, BUT,.. TECHNICALLY,.. GEORGE FOREMAN!!! UU NEED TO LOOK UP GEORGE FOREMAN,.. THE HARDEST HITTING MAN IN ALL OF BOXING OF ALL-TIME, THAT'S WHY WHEN GEORGE CALLED OUT MIKE,.. ABOUT 5/6 TIMES,.. MIKE NEVER ANSWERED!!! ABOUT 7/8 YEARS, AGO,.. MIKE ADMITTED, THAT GEORGE WOULD HAD WHIPPED HIM, THAT'S WHY HE NEVER ANSWERED THE CHALLENGE!!! & OF COURSE GEORGE TRIED TO ACT LIKE HE DIDN'T WANT NNOOO PART OF TYSON, BUT,.. WHEN GEORGE WAS PAST HIS PRIME, & STILL WHOOPING AZZ, & REGAINING THE CHAMPIONSHIP BELT, AGAIN,.. MIKE,.. KNEW WHAT WAS UP!!! LOOK IT UP

There was no denying Tyson at this stage of his career. By beating Holmes, he cemented a new era in the heavyweight division. People talk about, well Holmes didn't have time to train. Or his right arm got caught in the ropes. None of it would have mattered. Tyson was too fast, too strong, too mean, and too tactical for Holmes.

@@active.7universal Prime Holmes was impressive. Fast, great stamina & defense. Never lost until Spinks. But he never had big power. If you can't hurt Tyson, he's going to hunt you down. And Holmes was hurt/knocked down several times in his career. Prime vs. prime, I still like Tyson.
