I haven’t looked to see if Mike has a specific teaching on tithe, but I do remember it as a part of his Hebrew Roots series. I remember because it was the only thing I (then) disagreed with him on that and actually stopped listening for a while. At the time, I had been indoctrinated to the traditional tithe since I was born. This year, I investigated he matter Biblically for myself and found I had to change myself to be in accord with the Word. I believe in giving; I do not believe in a strict 10% tithe. And I’m back to listening to Mike Wigner, who I’ve found to be one of the most balanced, Biblically careful teachers on KZbin. :) that’s my story, thought I’d share.

The oil was used primarily used as a moisturizer for social presentation although it had plenty of medicinal uses. Value added if fragrant.
@katmaw59103 жыл бұрын
In all fairness, oil is a good balm and cleanser so I can see why it would have been used medicinally. For perhaps a hot day, a bit of oil may have also been a good moisturiser of some sorts, not to mention it holds aromas quite well. But otherwise, oil seems to have been used rather - mundanely? As well as ritually and symbolically. A cultural practice that makes sense. Plus well fermented wine might have been a good antiseptic - better than having dust and dirt coated wounds by the robbers.
@wayneburchell63462 жыл бұрын
I've been studying anointing with oil for a couple of weeks for a sermon. I think the purpose of the oil is to make Holy - to help cover sin and therefore allow healing. This isn't a case of known sin, but even the Jews acknowledged that they did not always know that they had sinned and had sacrifices for unknown sins. That is why the phrasing appears to be anoint AND being healed, rather than anointing being the means of healing. Not totally convinced by it, but it seems very plausible given that anointing was all about being made Holy/right with God.

Desire Of All Nations I got this from “Got Questions “ There are some who argue that, since Jesus did not “abolish” the Law, then the Law is still in effect-and still binding on New Testament Christians. But Paul is clear that the believer in Christ is no longer under the Law: “We were held in custody under the Law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the Law became our guardian to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian” (Galatians 3:23-25, BSB). We are not under the Mosaic Law but under “the law of Christ” (see Galatians 6:2). If the Law is still binding on us today, then it has not yet accomplished its purpose-it has not yet been fulfilled. If the Law, as a legal system, is still binding on us today, then Jesus was wrong in claiming to fulfill it and His sacrifice on the cross was insufficient to save. Thank God, Jesus fulfilled the whole Law and now grants us His righteousness as a free gift. “Know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified” (Galatians 2:16).

In my husband's culture (south India), you do refer to your first cousins exactly like you would you siblings. You refer to your older cousins as Chechi/Chetan, just like you would your older siblings and they have their say into your life in the same way as your elder siblings. That being said, I do believe those were Jesus' actual siblings and that the Catholic Church is trying to make the text say something it doesn't. But it doesn't change anything in my life or my faith, whether Mary stayed a virgin or had relations and children with Joseph
