We camped at Mile High Campground, located on the Cherokee Indian Reservation, at an elevation of 5,400 feet above sea level.
This campground features very scenic views of the Great Smoky Mountains, and very cool temperatures, even in the middle of summer! This is a great place to escape the heat of the lowlands, and it is always cool in the campground.
They also have hot showers available to all guests.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your camping videos. We bought a nice push up canopy to put over our table and cooking area. It paid for itself many times in the rain. I also typed up a list of items to take camping, printed several copies. Then just grabbed one a week or so before camping to not forget anything. Some of the best family times of our life. Kids grown now and my precious husband has passed away. Your videos are just delightful. Enjoy every minute together!

Those views are incredible. Our Creator God is amazing. As the Scripture in Psalms declares He touches the mountains and they smoke." That sunset is amazing. All glory to our Awesome Creator. We have been to Ghost Town in the Sky and have driven by that tower but have never been up it. Your camp meal looked really good. Our dog eats salmon every day. I really enjoyed this adventure. Thanks for watching. We always stock up on that seasoning when we go to Bass Pro or Cabela's. Still have a couple of unopened ones. Yes, Mile High Campground always stays cool in the summer, rarely ever topping 70, due to the high altitude and being mostly in the shade. Great place to take in the views and escape the heat.

You had stage four and beat it? I did not know if anyone who beat stage four ! You are blessed !
@NCMemoryMakers
@NCMemoryMakers 10 ай бұрын
I certainly am blessed. I was diagnosed with stage 4, because it was detected in the bone marrow. That was an automatic stage 4 diagnosis. Even then, they gave me pretty good odds to be cured. Initially, they said my odds were about 60%. But after 6 months of chemo did not put me into a full remission, they said that my only hope was having either a bone marrow or a stem cell transplant. I was able to have what was called an autologous stem cell transplant. They said my odds at that point, were only about 40%, since the initial chemo did not put me into remission. But I did go into remission after the stem cell transplant, in March of 1998. There was another small spot that showed up in my right arm, in 2000. I had radiation for that up until December, and they gave me something that was relatively new at the time. It was a monoclonal antibody, called Rituxan. I have had no recurrence since late 2000, and am considered cured.

Yes, there are, unfortunately. As of October of last year, anyone uploading any recording from inside the National Park to a monetized channel, requires a permit. This permit must be purchased from the Park. If you are recording and not uploading to a monetized channel, there is no restriction.

Gorgeous campground! A question from someone who has never really camped before. I plan to take my minivan camper on its first trip in May or June. Are people respectful about campsite reservations for the most part? I don't intend to set up a tent at all, so I won't really be leaving anything on the campsite when I'm not there. So I'm hoping there wouldn't be a chance of any campsite squatters when I come back from a drive on the parkway. 😂 Also, is 4WD or AWD necessary to get into the campground? I have a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica with FWD. It doesn't have a lift on it (yet) but the 20" wheels give it a bit more clearance than stock.
@NCMemoryMakers
@NCMemoryMakers Ай бұрын
You will not need a 4 wheel drive to access this campground. It is just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I am thinking that the camp host would give you a tag to put on the post by your camp site, which would mark that it is occupied. At this campground, reservations are required to occupy a site anyway, so I don't see squatters being an issue. If somebody did do that, just go to the office and have the host make them leave. But it has not ever been a problem, that we know of.

Curious on how do yall camp with no power? We have done tent camping but always had hook ups?
@NCMemoryMakers
@NCMemoryMakers 6 күн бұрын
I'm not sure what you are asking, in regards to using power. Are you referring to lighting and cooking? For lights, we have several lanterns and flashlights, and we build a fire. And those are only needed in the times from when it gets dark, until we go to bed. Or, if we have to get up for a restroom. In the daytime, we don't really need lighting. As for cooking, we have propane and gas powered stoves, or we use the grill. Hookups are nice, if you have a camper or an RV. But they're not really necessary for tent camping. Pretty much anything you would need power for, there's an alternative that runs on fuel. I hope I answered what you were wanting to know. We appreciate you watching your videos, and glad that you enjoyed them. If I didn't answer what you were asking, please clarify with a follow up, and I'll do my best. Have a blessed day!
