I often despair about the internet/ technology. But this account, these interviews etc are beyond brilliant - how would an uneducated 60yr office worker in New Zealand 🇳🇿 ever be exposed to such educated, intelligent, wise passionate experts…explaining things in a way that I can understand. I can’t thank you enough 🙏🙏🙏

I am so glad I watched this and got to hear Dr. Bikman speak on plant-based proteins from an unbiased, scientific perspective. I was vegetarian turned vegan for a total of 15 years and now that I’m eating animal protein with the fat, I feel so much better, nourished and truly fed. Great interview. Thanks for having Dr. Bikman on your platform. I’m a big fan. He is wonderful, knowledgeable and caring human. 🙏

He's been soundly debunked. His data is restricted to short term studies and yes, a low carb diet does well in the short term, but stretch it out for a few more years and it fails. Long term studies support whole food plant based diets as much superior with considerably better long term health and longevity.

Dr. Bikman has literally changed my life. I can’t believe it. He is the first of any carnivore/keto/low carb guys that I’ve ever listened to that could explain everything I needed to know in a dumbed down way so I could understand it. Before I was just hoping I was doing it correctly and now I completely understand why I will and won’t be doing certain things and how each thing benefits me. I am having a much easier time sticking to carnivore now that I have as much of an understanding of insulin as I do. Thank you so much Dr. Bikman. You and God have given me more in the past few months than I could ever have dreamed of. Thank you thank you thank you.

Primary causes of insulin resistance: 1.stress and rise of cortisol and epinephrine 2. Inflammation- rise in cytokines ( inflammatory mediators /chemicals. 3. Chronically elevated insulin. Too much insulin will cause insulin resistance. It is difficult to control stress, inflammation but insulin is easier to control or reduce. Secondary causes Linoleic acids, uric acids 3.

Diet is easier to control. Diets to prevent or control insulin resistance. 1. Control carbohydrates. Avoid refined carbs. Eat unprocessed carbs such as fruits and veges. Eat, not drink . Elevated 2. Prioritize protein. It has high satiety. 3. Don't fear fat? In nature , the best protein comes with fat. Fat helps protein digest better. . Should not fear fat? Meat , dairy and eggs are most nutritious source of protein. 4. Fast Allow insulin to go down by fasting. Plant based protein : Not dense Has anti- micronutrients ( heavy metals , . Antinutrients block absorption of other food's nutrients. ( inhibit digestion of other nutrients ) To neutralize Antinutrients,, by fermentation To couple plant proteins with some fruit fat ( nuts such as coconut, olives, avocado, ) and animal fat. Offendersantinutrients in plant protein: example, soy proteins has phytic acid. Peas with tannins Seed oils : Example is Linoleic acid in soybean and avocado: Linoleic acid promotes growth of fat cells thru hypertrophy and inhibit multiplication. . Fat cells grow with insulin with hypertrophy , becoming insulin resistant. Fat cells multiply but same insize; but fat cells itself can grow in size , this type of gain is bad and inflammatory and become insulin resistant. .insulin resistance starts with the fat cells. Then insulin resistance thru out the body. For plant seeds with Linoleic acids, like peanuts,avocados,soybean : the damage from Linoleic acid is by peroxidation. If can oxidize the Linoleic acid instead of peroxidation.then it is harmless. If can prevent peroxidation by oxidation ( burning the fat),Then it becomes benign, as in avocado . So because avocado comes with vitamin E , it is oxidized , not peroxidized. Typical diet : Breakfast: protein- heavy and low carb, like crepes ( egg, flour) , scrambled eggs with bacon, omelette. Lunch - little to no carbs Meat or shakes. Dinner- portion control Nothing for the rest of night. Should have normal body fat up to puberty. When it comes with chips, eat protein first, before the chips. Vitamin C important : It create collagen . Alternatively can eat collagen as collagen peptides but it is broken down as amino acids.but these can still be used to build collagen in the body.

Dr. Bikman is amazing! Read your whole book and gained a whole lot of understanding how metabolic imbalance happens, and it could be a number of things, and we just need to follow the protocol of limiting stress for cortisol, our nutrition, cut the crappy carbs bottom line, and give it time for our healing. I hope to meet you Dr. Bikman, I live out here in Utah! Just hoping you were going to be at the keto chow convention, when Dr. Berry was out here a few months ago..🙏🏽💜😍

The main question is "Why the UTI'S?" I would find the answer to that one. I bet you took an antibiotic when you got the first UTI and then followed up with another UTI because the antibiotics knocked out your defense soldiers (good bacteria) and your bad bacteria ravaged your urinary tract again. Next time, take the herb UVA URSI in capsule form made by Nature's Sunshine for a month and stop the unhealthy cycle.

When you exercise or have physical activity, - muscles uses glucose , and helps insulin to come down , then metabolic rate goes up , and the body converts into fat- burning. When insulin goes down , the metabolic rate goes up, and vice versa. The body has 2 primary fuels to get enrgy : Glucose( sugar) burning or fat burning . Insulin determines which fuel will be used. When insulin is elevated , - the body is in sugar burning mode, it is difficult to lose weight if the body is in constant burning mode with sugar as fuel. When insulin is low, the body will use body fat to burn as fuel. Weight loss has 2 processes ( low insulin and low calorie approaches) . One should precede the other. Start with reducing insulin : - eat when hungry and don't eat when not hungry. - ( control carbs, prioritize protein don't fear fat) Insulin will come down , metabolic rate will go up and body will go into fat burning mode( state of meiosis with ketones) . In some this is enough;in some of is not enough, Then go into low calorie step : fasting Can use fats like olive oil, butter with protein , with fasting ( alternate day or intermittent fasting ) . So now, combine low insulin and low calorie approaches The 3 top to care for metabolic health: 1. Lower your insulin thru dietary intervention Insulin activate MTOR 2. Stop eating at dinner to sleep well . - Should not go to bed with elevated glucose level. Don't spike glucose because it activates the Sympathetic nervous system- the " fight or flight " nervous system ( symptoms of fast heart rates and anxiety and higher body temperature ) Don't eat within a 3 hour window minimum, before bedtime or eat dinner 3 hours before bedtime . Big lunch, smaller or modest dinner. Good sleep is essential to proper immunity and will help in better aging Have a life philosophy to help your priorities in relationship. Make sure you have strong bonds with family.

Same here! Going to bed hungry is the worst. I probably lose an hour to an hour and a half of sleep just trying to block out my hunger pains and stomach grumbles. And drinking a bunch of water to curb the hunger leads to me waking up at 3am needing to go pee. Lol. It can be tricky timing dinner and sleep. Everyone is a little bit different. I think the key is really getting in some solid protein and fat at dinner. It's really the only thing that keeps me satiated for 4+ hours leading to bed time.
@karenohanlon4183

I don't think Ben means going to bed hungry. I think he is right about carbing or sugaring meal late in the day .A keto Carnivore meal early in the day or at least four hours before bed will be less problematic. I think if you need to digest or rest you can't do both.
@KirstiCheetahh
@KirstiCheetahh Жыл бұрын
@@karenohanlon4183 Rest and digest go together. The para-sympathis nervous system is involved in rest and digestion. Digestion has to be done in rest, not during physical activity. Activity turns on the sympathic nervous system, the fight or flight system. This one stops digestion. And of course, over eating before bed is not good. Over eating is never good.

Was diagnosed with full on metabolic syndrome in January. I have had very high stress levels as a doctor since 2016-17. I'd always been lean till i started gaining weight around that time. Mostly all visceral fat, I just put it down to metabolism slowing down completely after 30, because I've always been lean without ever thinking about how much I eat. Started carnivore diet in February, in 2 months I've lost 17 kgs (83kgs->66kgs), I'm 5'3. I feel so much healthier, and almost like in my teens and 20s again.

I have a question, i heard we was supposed to wake our insulin up if we’re on keto or carnivore. Its because our insulin is basically flat lined. So what would we need to do, eat a cup of berries or a tablespoon of honey 3x of week, or everyday? Or once a month?

Can you explain how others think protein raises insulin levels if you eat it in bulk? Is it the carbohydrate content in the meat?
@HelplessHawk

Meat doesn’t contain carbs. The theory is what your body doesn’t digest (in protein meat) the rest will metabolise as glucose thus raising your insulin.

if you dont ingest enough glucose for your body's requirements (mostly for the brain), some protein will be converted to glucose through "gluconeogenesis". People on zero carb diets still function fine because there is no essential dietary carb level.
@gregralph616

Gluconeogenesis. Protein CAN be broken down into blood glucose, it's not a preferred method of getting BG, because of the amount of energy it takes to do it, but it can happen if eaten in very large quantities.

You can get various blood tests to check your HDL and triglycerides to se if they’re healthy. You could also get your CAC (coronary artery calcium score) to see if your score is high. Different people will be affected differently, so there is no hard and fast rule to say that that amount of rice will cause glycation. BUT, you could transfer to a lower carb lifestyle. There are a number of body builders out there who are carnivores. It does take some time to switch over, which does impact your performance for a bit. But once you’ve adapted to lower carb, all sorts of athletes say it’s easier - they build muscle faster, they run faster, etc…

How about legumes like beans and chickpea are those carbohydrates that we could eat when we have insulin resistance?
@pumaspaw
@pumaspaw 2 жыл бұрын
I am wondering the same thing. I am not even close to being a vegetarian. But nuts have high fat and modest protein, and legumes, have a balance of protein and carbs, and when combined with whole grains provide a balance to complete the protein requirements. That this discussion would emphasize peas, which are mostly used in the in a process to concentrate proteins where gluten and soy are undesired, is very odd. The required level of concentration of peas to create protein by product doesn't seem to make a good argument against a balanced whole food vegetarian diet. Most vegetarians I know, and I know a lot of them, aren't looking to peas byproduct as the answer.

Prof. Bikman’s best line … eat as nature intended. Eat the apple, don’t drink the apple juice. No such thing as an apple juice tree. If legumes don’t impact your glucose, go for it. Every human is different and has a different carbohydrate tolerance level. So, eat and test. Your body will tell you.

How do you know you have insulin resistance? I have type 1 diabetes. I do control carbohydrates to about 20 g per meal and get most of those carbs from vegatable and fruits as the digestion of these foods match more the action of insulin making it easier to control sugar levels. People forget to realize (even doctors and dieticians) that insulin has an active 4-6 hours window of action. So to eat a breakfast with processed carbohydrates you would require more insulin than needed to cover the rise in front end sugar and in two hours you will be hungry again feeding that insulin. That insulin is dropping blood sugar and hunger is stimulated. I eat protein and fat at each meal which prevents hunger. I'm a meat eater and fat eater. If I am going to be more active, like snow shoeing I will eat more carbohydrates to prevent low blood sugar. I will lower the on board insulin too if I plan well.

You and your doctor need to have a long, heart-to-heart talk, because your understanding of your condition is woefully inadequate. Firstly, Type 1 diabetes is an "animal like unto itself"...but over time, even Type 1 diabetics can become insulin resistant, even though they initially were insulin sensitive.
