Who would call Susan a skincare snob ??? Susan is always the first one to say "Do your own research, do what works for you, teach me in the comments." Susan knows A LOT about skincare but she is NEVER pretensious. She loves to teach and I'm very grateful. My skincare improved SO MUCH because of Susan.

One of my favorite things about these is watching Susan keeping her composure when there's a big no-no in their routines. It's funny because you can see her dying a little on the inside, LOL; yet, she's always remains respectful. I never find her to be snobby because you can tell how much thought & care she puts into phrasing her words. Always so graceful & lovely~ This is how one should give constructive criticism! (\^-^/)

Chemist here answering a question Susan had around 33:00. I wouldn’t mix the peptide serum with an oil. It will denature (detangle) the active peptides so they loose their shape and functionality. Peptides are held together through covalent and hydrogen boding patterns, exposing them to an oil will completely destroy the way they bond. Water is polar, oil is non-polar-by mixing peptide serums with oil you change the 3D structure of the peptide and functionality of peptides is directly related to their structure.

Hey Susan love from Ireland!! I am a microbiologist & specialise in fungal diseases in humans. Yes, coffee beans do have a lot of fungus (normal environmental/ harmless fungi) and bacteria on them. They are not washed to the level required for removal of microorganisms but again, these are environmental bugs and are perfectly safe to sit in your pantry. Coffee beans are a food source for these organisms, ground coffee even more so, and the heated leftovers from your morning cup even more so again. As a professional microbiologist, I would never use coffee grounds on my face - sorry Jeannie!. PS I do love a homemade brown sugar and olive oil scrub for my body though :)

Jeannie Mai’s skincare routine is truly over the top. I’m Korean American, in my late 40’s & ppl always think I’m 10 or more yrs younger. I had this problem my whole life. Yes genes play a big role since neither of my parents look their age.

I asked my husband regarding the coffee grounds growing mold. For reference, he has a master's in biochemistry from UCSD and works in SF at a biotech as a Process Engineer where he daily grows bacterias and molds so he can extract DNA in order to study genetic diseases. He said that the main factor that would cause mold in the coffee grinds is the fact that they are damp and mold needs moisture to grow. Since they take a while to dry, it gives plenty of time for spores time to begin growing in the grounds. However, he said that if you take the coffee grinds fresh while they are still dry they should not have mold, and that if you dry the used ones with a hair dryer or use them immediately after brewing coffee, that should be fine too. However, he said that it might throw off the skin's pH, as skin has a pH of about 5.5 and coffee has a pH of about 4.5, but it could be balancing if you have many basic skincare items in your routine. He also said that unless the mold spores are visible, they are not harmful as there are always mold spores pretty much everywhere that does not get direct sunlight. Overall, he said that unless you are using day-old wet grinds, they should be fairly safe.

Nope she isnt doing anything right. Nothing. Genetics plays about 90% in the role of how well you age. Even Susan said it in the video. Jeannie could be rubbing horse piss on her face 2 times a day every day and she'd still look this great at her age. Skincare is great and has its importance, but genetics is the biggest part of it.

I can’t believe for like two years my skin care routine was the St. Ives pink grapefruit scrub - the oatmeal soothing scrub - then the Nutrigina pink grapefruit moisturizer. I used two scrubs on my face, every single day. My face had this rough texture that the scrubs would rub away and my face would feel smooth for a while, but by the time it came to washing my face the next day the texture would be back and I would always have a bunch of tiny breakouts around my chin and nostril areas. I’ve been converting to a six step routine with a cleanser - toner - eye cream - moisturizer - lip mask - and face mask. I haven’t quite found a serum, essence, and spf that works for me yet but I just wanna say I’m two weeks into this routine and the smoothed texture and brightness of my skin already is incredible. So thank you for videos like these, they’re really helping me educate myself and i just feel really happy knowing i’m caring for my skin and body and doing what i can to prevent aging before it starts

Hi, Neuroscience and Biochemistry major here. So peptides or polypeptides are the polymers of a major bio molecule class called proteins. And these peptides are made up of amino acids. So when you have a long chain of peptides (called a polypeptide) they all start folding up in different ways (I'm not going to go through them because there's like 4 levels of folding), once the peptide is done folding you get the complete 3-dimensional structure. Now this completed folded peptide is super important because of two things: (1) only at the fully completed folded structure does the protein/amino acid can actually function (in this case, as active skin care ingredients) (2) when the protein unfolds due to changes in pH, temperature, etc, you lose the enzymatic function and it stops working. So my only concern for her mixing those serums and oils together would be are they at a similar pH range? Because if they are not then the protein/amino acids will get denatured meaning they start to unfold, stop working, and you won't see the results that you were looking for. Now to answer your question whether or not the oil and her serum can mix well. It depends, so there are actually 3-4 classes of amino acids, there are neutral/nonpolar amino acids which are great for hydrophobic environments so for oils, lipids, anything that's lipid base like ceramides, sphingosines, you know like emollients. The other two classes are basic (positively charged) and basic (negatively charged) which are great only in hydrophilic environments so acid/a lot of water, hyaluronic acid, etc. Again when the protein folds, the neutral/hydrophobic portion will move in away that aligns with the oil while the charged amino acids points towards the hydrophilic portion and away from the hydrophobic regions (oil/lipids/etc). So yes they can mix well unless if you were to overdue it and say add too much hydrophilic serums (say you pumped together hyaluronic acid + maybe a collagen serum + a bunch of oils together then what happens is since both hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts are trying to get away with another they may start to do so by clumping or what the beauty industry say "pilling" in order to minimize the undesired interaction between hydrophobic and hydrophilic parts. So if I were her, I would but on her serum first because it's hydrophilic and would point towards her skin and get absorbed faster (if u put oils/lipids first, anything hydrophilic will not penetrate because again they try to avoid one another). Then put on an oil after the serum has absorbed which will create a barrier that can protect the skin since lipids/oils are semi-permeable to certain molecules only. Then finally sunscreen should be the last step to create a film to shield the face from UV rays. Remember that as time goes on in the day, the UV rays are bouncing off your skin and every time it bounces off a specific area, little by little that sunscreen film disappears (we say that the reaction went to full completion in chemistry due to stoichiometry) and you must reapply again (sorry but it's true when you apply sunscreen in the morning it actually disappears over time leaving behind a residue that feels like it's there but it's not it's just the left over residue).

Im a skin therapist and I use coffee sometimes on my face as a scrub. I get really nice results.. but my skin is oily and more on the thicker side (I had acne prone skin) and enzyme peeling does not give me the same effect. My face can’t handle ”natural” products like dr.bronner though. So physical exfoliation are for some and chemical exfoliation are for some others...

i think from the way the peptide and cbd oil molecules are, even though cbd is less polar than peptide, cbd oil still has some hydroxyl groups, while the peptide molecules has hydroxyls and carbonyls, so they may not mix super well, but I think they are still fine to use together. I did hear though the peptides don't penetrate your skin very well, its better to just use hyaluronic acid.

Just be careful of staining. Also you can buy Turmeric capsules to take. Helps with inflammation.
