And that’s why you hustle down to first base because you never know what can happen if you hustle

Right! It drives me nuts to see players doing a slow jog to first on a groundball just because they always assume it will be an easy out.

Multimillionaire professional athletes, averaging 3 to 4 at-bats in a game, and they can't be bothered to run hard 90 feet in the portion of those at-bats where they even put the ball into play, unless they're sure they have a good chance of making it (even though errors happen all the time on "routine" grounders)

True. But it's still really fun to see when they happen. You'd pretty much have to be the Roadrunner to get a ruled Homerun off a bunt.

Of course they are. But "bunted, then scored on a few errors" just doesn't have the same ring to it.
@kevinlittlefield49945 ай бұрын
Yes, every one of them. All five would be scored as bunt singles (with the possible exception of the second one; might have been an out with a good throw), followed by one throwing error (the first and third examples) or two (the second, fourth, and fifth examples) that allowed the batter to take the extra bases. Stupid title for this video.

I saw Bud Harrelson get one of these vs. the Dodgers in a game I attended at Shea Stadium I think in 1972. I'm sure there's no video of it. One of the baseball history websites made a list of them going back to about 1900 and they're almost as rare as no-hitters.

Right fielders not routinely backing up throws to first and then failing to exercise impulse control in making wild, senseless throws to third base. This never happened in little league when I was right fielder.

I remember the time where Mariano Duncan actually had a bunt double. The ball trickled down the 3rd-Base line & stopped on the fringe of the outfield grass near the line..@ that point, Duncan actually arrived @ 2nd Base. The 3rd Baseman thought the ball would roll foul (which it nvr did). He didn't touch the ball either. There4; this was a legit bunt double.

Bunt with a 4-base error is not a home run. Neither is a bunt single with a 3-base error.

Why are they all making the long ass throw from right field when every runner was gonna safe anyway and risk an error when you can just throw home and stop the runner from advancing and still have a better shot at the runner even if there is a bad throw there

In third grade little league, I experimented with a strategy of just keep running no matter what. Odds are you'd get a bad throws or bad catches and could make it home. Of course, that's terrible strategy at a higher level, and the coaches hated it even if it worked.
