I see it as a Shrek situation. Shrek 1 and 2 were great, and 3 was able to make EXTREME amounts of money at the box office, even though it was terrible. Of course, they had to work to undo the damage that terrible movie did for over a decade. I'm expecting a very similar situation here. People are easily tricked once in a situation like this, but if Moana 3 rolls around, it will be *dramatically* impacted by this.

For me, the most memorable song from Moana was "Your Welcome" and TBH that was mainly the shock of finding out that The Rock could actually sing. It was almost as big a moment, for me, as Nicole Kidman opening up in Moulin. And to this day, "Your Welcome" brings a smile to my face.

So I've had an almost total Disney boycott going since the whole Gina Carano thing, but after hearing two of my daughters talk about how much they liked Moana, I was going to break the boycott and let them see the second movie this weekend, IF the reviews came back good. I was going to make it a surprise treat because I knew they wouldn't expect me to give money to Disney. But I've yet to hear a good review. I've heard it's beautiful, but the story isn't there. My daughter's are old enough to realize there's no plot so they wouldn't enjoy it. If Disney can't care enough to put out a good product, I can't care enough to pay a small fortune to take my large family to the theater.

I have no desire to see either film. OG Moana was fantastic. No intention of marring that with a sub-standard No. 2. As for Wicked, I was raised on musicals… Oklahoma, Music Man, Lil Abner… went with my parents to theatre in the round in San Diego. The last film musical I’ve seen was Phantom of the Opera, which was BRILLIANT. I have soundtracks to almost every movie I’ve ever seen. But, I’ve watched these Wicked ‘stars’ in several interviews, & while they are not as bad as Zegler, they do not impress me. They put me off with their somewhat bizarre behavior… so much drama, crying hugging holding hands constantly touching. Nope, not for me.

It’s far from terrible! 😂. 4 out of 5 seems like a pretty fair review for this movie. We just got out of the theater and my eight year old daughter loved it. It’s not as good as the first movie, but that’s to be expected. It’d be though to reach that level of greatness. The only slow part that was a bit of a letdown was the middle of the movie where Moana meets with who I thought would be the main villain of the movie. I’m glad they cut that short with that villain. After ready and listening to reviews about how terrible this movie was, especially since it was kind of scrapped together from a planned tv series for Disney Plus, it far exceeded what the so called expert reviewers said about it. Take your kids to see this movie.. they’ll love it.

The movie had an phenomenal opening weekend, With 221 million, passing other movies like Wicked which only made 160 millions. The movie is pretty awesome.

I am fairly certain that Lin-Manuel Miranda did the exact same thing with Mufasa that folks are accusing the woman who did the songs in Moana 2 of doing, i.e. he is taking songs from the original Lion King and copying them but making them fit the new story.

My mom and I wanted to see it but after I read the story on Wikipedia I found it weird and talked my mom out of it. I'll be buying the soundtrack (omitting the weird songs like Get Lost and Chee Hoo and the song with the rap in it) however. I didn't like that they made that young man included in her crew have a girlish personality (fainting at danger and having a schoolgirl obsession with Maui) and Moana turn into a demigodess rather than finding a man.

The family like it. Kids are still listening to the songs days later. I think they hit the good enough bar for a lot of people but nowhere near as good as the first obviously.

I’m gonna give it credit for being better than it had any right to be based on the schedule it had going from TV to movie. Story wasn’t great…but it still looked gorgeous - a testament to the animation crew. I thought it was better than Frozen 2, Strange World, or Wish - truly terrible movies. Moana 2 was OK. I’ll take OK over terrible.

I don't agree with Valiant's contention that the two movies have all the same audience. I wouldn't take a young girl to see Wicked because I think some of it would be over her head and especially because the 2nd part is claiming it takes more from the book. The book is adult trash, literally. I don't think I got 50 pages in when I threw it out. So if she even understood the nuances of the plot, I wouldn't get a little girl hooked on a movie when I know she's not going to the sequel. AND - If you don't want girls to think looking deathly thin like Ariana Grande is something to be sought after, then you don't take them to see stars and admire stars like Ariana Grande.

Moana 2 will make bank but like Pixar and Star Wars it will destroy the Moana brand forever. Similar to how Frozen 2 ruined Frozen even with a big box office, no kid plays with Frozen dolls anymore. Wreck it Ralph was destroyed by it's sequel, I don't even see anyone outside of Disney Adults like any merchandise from that movie anymore. Disney loves to destroy their brands and IP.
