I did the same thing! My mother was determined to keep my brother and me looking like dorks for the rest of eternity so she would never buy anything from the catalog. But I loved all the fun phrases and the font so I'd take the old mags from my friends and collage my planner every year with other magazines I'd saved. I still have them lol

Yes, they sell a couple of Delia’s designs on Dolls Kill, but they don’t have a magalog. I still get catalogs in the mail from other companies, I love it! I think all clothing companies could benefit from having a catalog. It’s waaaaay easier to browse a catalog than a website.

I remember thinking the Delia's catalog was the coolest thing ever and would pretend filling out the order form with my wishlist. But by the time I got old enough to shop at the mall on my own, Forever 21 was far more enticing and trendy with endless options, and the Delia's storefront felt limited and outdated. It's too bad because their early catalog looks are kinda timeless and would be so wearable now!

I miss the old Hot Topic! It used to be more about alternative fashion, but now it's mostly all merch. You go in there and see tons of Disney, anime and marvel characters on everything and funko pops everywhere (and it's fine if you like those things!)...but it used to be a lot darker and have more goth/punk/emo street style. The storefronts themselves started out as massive wrought-iron archways that suburban parents would shake their heads at, and their logo isn't even in a red horror-movie font anymore. They still have some cool stuff, but it seriously felt like an actual alternative place to shop in the early 2000s (as ironic as that is, since it was in most large malls).

I was born in 2002, so I didn't get to experience delia's in its heyday. But I LOVE the style in the old catalogues. It's stylish while being understated, fun, and girly. I remember shopping for clothes in middle school (around 2015) at Forever21 and feeling like everything was too grown up or revealing for me (I think that was the year of ripped skinny jeans and cutouts 😭). I would have loved to have a delia's catalogue back then. I think Brandy Melville has been taking a lot of inspiration from them in recent years.

I was tHaT girl 🌻 Delia's was everything to me in junior high in '96 - '97. I wanted to be one of the cool sporty girls. Just going to drop a few references here that you missed which were essential for me during this time: Fresh Cut Grass roll-on perfume pack from Delia's, Gadzooks, Adidas Gazelles, the Limited Too, Daria, Willow from Buffy, Empire Records, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Sporty Spice. The feeling that Delia's encapsulated which meant so much to me at the time was that if you were an outsider, not-cool kid, you had a place. Funny to think how much I'm still chasing after that feeling and how much it had an impact on my personality.

This video speaks to my heart! I remember getting my first Delia’s catalog probably around ‘94 and my friends and I kind of thought the clothes were ugly because it was so different than what was popular where we lived (small town Iowa). That quickly changed when the skater/snowboarder/surfer style became on trend. Suddenly wide leg jeans, baby tees, chunky shoes, baby doll dresses were cool and it was all accessible in Delia’s. Granted, I disagree with the comment that girls in Des Moines could only find clothing in Wal-Mart, Gadzooks was at Valley West Mall and had same type of aesthetic so we weren’t fashion deprived out in the sticks of backwoods Iowa, but Delia’s definitely helped make it easier to get the latest trends. I remember liking what Delia’s had to offer, but never ordering from them because the clothing was kind of dull, the styles were cool but not colorful, that’s were Gadzooks took over, which was like Delia’s on an acid trip and I loved it! I feel like back then there were more options for teen girls to find age appropriate, cool clothing. Flash forward to today…I now have teenage daughters of my own and this demographic is still overlooked. I wish there was a mid 90’s Delia’s catalog finding its way to my mailbox now (or an online equivalent). Finding clothing for young teen girls is harder now than it was back then. Unique age appropriate items are few and far between. I’m telling you, if Delia’s dropped Dolls Kill and made a comeback in their ‘90s style, they’d clean up! I don’t know what they are thinking going the Dolls kill route, the clothing is nothing like the original Delia’s. While I’m not a fan of Dolls Kill and don’t support them, I’ve found some great brands through them that I order direct from like Minga, Ragged Priest, Demonia, Daze, and Lamoda. The prices for these sites will shock you straight into a coma, but unfortunately that’s what I’ve found when trying to find quality items that will last through constant washings because those are my daughters favorite pieces of clothing and shoes that are comfortable, trendy and last. The moral of this endless story, and quoting anyone’s grandpa, “they just don’t make stuff like they used too”.

The styles were varied, original, and fun--I still remember my pink print pajamas, cargo skirt, belted fur-collar jacket, platform mary janes, etc. Instead of opening the stores, they should have focused on online retail and expanding their size range.

This was really fascinating for me, because I remember the Delia's catalogue and my sisters and I were in the target age demographic, but my entire relationship with teen and tween fashion brands of that era was defined by their not offering my size. It didn't just mean I didn't/couldn't buy the items, it meant I didn't know or think about what the brands potentially meant to my peers... Like, honestly I could not tell you if the cool girls at my school thought Delia's was cool or if they thought it was cheesy. It was always kind of sad for me that I couldn't have that swapping fashions, shopping with your friends experience, but I am fascinated to learn about the girl-culture that the Delia's catalogue created in at least some places, and it makes me curious to know more about how my peers were approaching fashion while my relationship with clothes was kind of in this separate lane

There's so much more to being a teenage girl then just what you look like. I always felt that and I still do. Yes all girls want to be popular and have boyfriends but if given the choice that true happiness with friends who really do love you, no matter what you looked like or had, most teenage girls would give up what they looked like in a heartbeat. If teenage girls were thought of as more than just someone to exploit (or in the case of parents and teachers as a tiger that needed to be tamed) what could they not accomplish on a personal level? Getting into a good college and extracurricular activities are important, but there is so much more to being a teenager that I think the world just doesn't understand. Teenagers are not a demographic, they're human beings and even people who have the best of intentions with the teenagers in their lives fall short. This is nothing new I always felt this way even as a teenager. I get very nostalgic for the things in my past but I always felt like there's a truer value I was missing out on. Like I was being cheated out of. I thought a lot like a teenage girl but there was just something more that felt out of place.

i bought clothes at a delia´s in 2014 (i was 14) and i still own a sweater from there, the other stuff i literally grew out of but the quality at least of the stuff i bought was really good compared to forever 21

I never actually ordered anything from Delia's, but man, I loved what was in those catalogs. There's a few items in the images in this video I'd still buy today. I'm dying for those high-V-neck sweaters with stripes across the bust and neck to make a comeback.

Ooh, my '90s teen heart was exploding watching this. We really did 'bond' with magazines, and for Black girls in the suburbs like my friends and me, we loved that there was actual representation in the Delia's catalog even if that wasn't a buzzword yet. Thanks for this nostalgic look back.

So I didn’t know Delia’s was a catalog first. They came to my local mall in the late 2000’s and I loved them! The clothes were so cute and fun. I still have a green pea coat from there with a key print on the inside. When they closed I was so sad. This has been one of my favorite deep dives you’ve done.

I personally love the new clothes from the 2018 Delia*s x Dolls Kill reboot. Like half my current wardrobe is from the new Delias and I wear it all the time. The clothes are pretty good quality, they feel pretty decent, and they've lasted me a few years so far. Delia*s was popular way before my time (I am 18 right now) and I never got to experience it fully.

Oh man, delia's. I was a kid and preteen in the 90s and early Y2K era, not a teen, but I seriously loved the catalogs. My sisters would get them, be done with them, and then let me have them. I used to cut up the model's pictures and put them back together to create new outfits. Knowing how much those old vintage catalogs go for, however, makes me cringe a little about doing that!

I loved Delia’s…it broke my heart that as a plus sized teen in the late 90s/early 2000s that I couldn’t fit their clothes. When they added more extended sizes xxl…I bought a tee and it was one of my fave purchases ever.

God, I LIVED for the Delia's catalog when I was a teen. The shoes!! All the chunky platform slides/sandals! I had some black chunky platform dressy sandals with flowers embroidered on them and I wore them through high school, college and well into my late 20s/early 30s. They finally fell apart when I was attending my brother's wedding at 8 months pregnant. A sad day. There was no saving them.

I remember I got my 6th grade dance dress from Delia’s. I lovedddd that store because it was the only store with age appropriate dresses that were actually appealing to a tween audience. That turned out to be my last time shopping there, I grew up wondering why they shut down. I wish they kept it around because now, that age group doesn’t have a single store dedicated to them

Delia’s used to be one of the only places to let u pick an inseam (leg length) for pants. I have a 29” inseam, meaning I could roll 5+” of denim at each ankle, scissor it off and darn by hand cause a machine needle will break, or just buy from Delia’s. I remember thinking it was so crazy to spend $150 on like 3 pairs of jeans and a pair of pannies or socks, considering I could get 3 pairs of Levi’s for $45 back then, but I just loved the way Delia’s catered to my short stems. I’d always buy a few pairs of jeans and then a random piece to meet free shipping, like a scarf, socks, undies, earrings or whatever from clearance. It was very much like Claire’s less blingy accessories for little girls. Another one I liked was Cinderella’s of Boston. I used to get tiny custom pumps from there for under $50. Order online, shipped to ur door, and this was when online shopping was only EBay

I remember when my friends and I discovered dELia’s in 2007. For a year we all obsessively shopped at our local store and hung out in their store, but the recession hit and suddenly all our families were on budgets, and tbh dELiA’s was pretty expensive.

I remember looking through delia's catalogs with my cousin, but I was like 10 at the time and she was 14. I feel like I was too young to get into the brand when it was at its peak, but now I would love to buy their clothing. I used to buy from dolls kill years ago, but I also do not want to support them so I guess I'll just have to buy delia's clothing secondhand for now. I really hope that they can start selling clothes on their own and find success that way because I absolutely despise 2010s fashion lmaoo

I had a good friend ( my only friend at the time) in school who’s aunt worked for Delia’s since 1996 . She was in her late 20s when she started working for them and quit in the early 00s . She was moving to another country. Anyway At the end of every year ( ever since she started) the company let her take home clothing shoes jewelry cosmetics and other little Knick knacks from the wardrobe/set. She also had a whole ton of the catalogs ! All of what she saved up in about eight big boxes she kept in her storage unit ! She gave it to my friend and I to split between each other ! God did we have a time. Mind you this was 2006, we didn’t keep up with most of it as the years went by . I do believe my friend might but I haven’t spoke to her since 2014 :/

I think it’s important to mention that if you lived in a major city , shopping at the mall wasn’t actually the cool thing . There would be districts, but it’s pretty important to mention that at this time major cities didn’t actually have malls .. like at all
