Thank you Chris, for your answer on the setting of the Insta360, what do you use as a setting for the exposure?
@WheelsInTheSky2 жыл бұрын
@Gerard FARDEAU. I set 5.7/30fps, Exposure to auto, Exposure value to zero, W/B set to auto and color profile set to vivid. For the sd card, in settings, I used 264, haven’t tried anything else. I had to go check, I set them in the beginning and haven’t look at them since. When I fly my Rocket locally, I just turn on the camera before I get in. Sometimes in my 185 or Husky, I’ll turn on the camera with my iPad using the app. Looks like another nice day here, I think I’ll head to the airport. I’m thinking I might head down to Mexican Mountain! I’m not an expert at this but if you have any questions that I can help with, just give me a shout.

These are fantastic videos. I just earned my formation ticket yesterday - my instructor is a Rocket driver and we're both fans. The local formation crowd here (Temora, Australia - opposite terrain to you!) are a mix of civilian aviators, and a bunch of current and former military aviators. Your footage is excellent, and the editing is great. Just subscribed.

Are you guys ex-military pilots? The formation procedures you use and the calls are pretty much what we learned in the T-38 back at Laughlin AFB in 1981. I love back country flying videos, but these other videos you do are SO SO much fun. Thanks a grundle!. PS: except that we had several thousand feet below us when we did our formation work . . . Overhead Pattern? Yea, you guys have to be ex fighter drivers.
@WheelsInTheSky Жыл бұрын
@Loane Kirarahu Hi Loane. Glad you enjoyed the videos. We have a lot of fun doing them. Yes, we’re all ex-AF except one navy. Three of us were in fighters, one U2 pilot, one E3 and some heavy drivers. Just enjoying retirement, reliving the old days! I was at Shepard AFB in 1981.
@ioanekirarahu951 Жыл бұрын
@@WheelsInTheSky My Brother worked the Rapcon at Shepard in 1981. I finished T-37s, and nearly finished T-38s at Laughlin, including all SIM, all exams and ground school, passed the "Contact" check ride, and even had one solo formation T-38 ride, so I was nearly there. It was finally getting to be fun. My very, very favorite part of that experience was extended trail in the T-38. I absolutely loved that, but we didn't do it at 500 feet AGL But I had some back complications which washed me out medically at that time. Had I known then what I know now, I could have dealt with it, but I didn't know then what was going on. So I lost my flight pay and served an AF career without wings. But I'm building two homebuilts now, a lightweight wood-fabric taildragger, and a 200 hp retract, the GP-4--the closest thing I'm likely to be able to fly to a T-38, and yes I plan on overhead patterns here at 41U. I'm a member of the SLC EAA Chapter 23, and we meet most of the time in Larry's hanger at BTF, very close there to where your Rocket lives. Hope to meet you some time. I'm 69 going on 20, and live in Manti, UT. BTW is your U2 pilot friend surnamed "Whicker?" Because I know a former U2 driver with that name that lives not far from there.
@WheelsInTheSky Жыл бұрын
@Ioane Kirarahu. That’s too bad, I know how back issues can be, sometimes you don’t know if you’ll ever be better! I got hit on my motorcycle during 38’s, I was afraid I’d get washed out if I didn’t get better soon enough. I’ll have to find out where Larry’s hanger is, maybe I’ll join EAA. I looked up the GP4, pretty cool. What kind of backcountry plane are you building?

hello, what setting do you use on your insta360
@WheelsInTheSky2 жыл бұрын
@Gerald Fardeau. Hi Gerald. Not a lot of choices in 360, but I use 5.7k, because as you edit you lose definition. Initially, I was worried 5.7k would take up too much space on the sd card. But I use a 128 card and it holds more than enough.

We’ll done once again Chris. Other than the aft-facing in cockpit camera, is the primary camera mounted in some manner on the rear fuselage or tail? It seems to be some type of gyroscopic, inertial camera since it can move in a direction different than the plane is rolling. How is that camera controlled? Was that an add you made, or did your plane come with that when purchased? Fabulous work brother.
@WheelsInTheSky3 жыл бұрын
@Steve DeViney. Hi Steve, thanks, good to hear from you. I built a camera mount that sits on top of my vertical stabilizer. I use a 360 degree camera and just control the camera view in editing. No talent needed!!

Hi Bruce. I recently did a video on “ How to Mount Cameras on Airplanes “. it was about how to build an airplane selfie stick, but I also quickly showed a picture of the tail mount I made. Let me know if that helps. I may do another video on how I made my other mounts.
