Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are alot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look.

I loved this interview. It’s especially interesting after reading Rob’s book, because it really takes multiple passes at the subject to understand the fundamentals of the money system. The key takeaway, though: “Earning more money is the solution to virtually everything.” People have a tendency to think of investing as a path to money, but in reality, investing is how you keep money - not earn it. I’d like some more info on banks creating money. I think it was oversimplified in this video.

Only a very tiny amount of cash exist, most just exist on a screen. When you put your cash into the bank. The bank then takes it and lend a customer at an interest rate. Nothing happens but they have a liability to the depositor and an asset from the borrower. For the borrower a matching deposit is instantly created - there you go, money created!

Property taxes in the US are terrible. They don’t take into account how much the homeowner makes but base it on the value of the home, so you get little old retired couples who bought their home 30 years ago so it’s worth so much more now than when they bought it and they don’t have the income to pay taxes on their property so they lose their homes. It’s a terrible system

Your OWN home is a liability, sure; but if you buy to let out, then your US tax system allows you to offset all costs (as far as I understand), including interest on the mortgage loan, which we in the UK cannot any longer! We also do not have 30yr fixed-rate mortgages either, and can at best get a 2-yr fixed. So I think you have it MUCH easier than we do!......And if your income if £40,000 or more, then we pay 40% tax! But if you put property into a limited company, then you only pay corporation tax at 20% - but we still can't offset interest payments against tax, unlike we used to. Believe me, you guys have it much easier than we do here! Be thankful for small mercies!
