Monster Machines: Newell Mega Shredder

I ran a "small" Newell shredder for 17 years (3000 hp). I could do 2 cars at a time. The most I ran was 405 in an hour with new hammers and no problems. The outer edge of the hammers rotated at 250 miles per hour., that was about 20 tons rotating at 600 RPM. There was no problems with engines (cast iron). The explosions never hurt the shredder itself. It had 4 inch steel walls with another 4 inches of wear plates bolted inside. It was the duct work that was damaged mostly.

holy hell I have not seen this since I was a kid, My grandparents ordered all of the monster machines vhs tapes for me. I still have them too.

@JGMagoo I think rebar in any shredder is a bad combo as well. I see similar shredders at steel mills in Texas

When that first guy said that the Impact auto crusher could crush entire engine blocks, I believe he was referring to light steel & aluminum blocks. Some of the old "iron sides" engines from the 1950's through the late 1970's, would obviously be a lot tougher to squash.

Newell’s was my very first job when I was 18 I ran the road man when a gas tank would get by and Blow you ran I also run the Pedestal crane guy named Joe was the Schrader operator Oh Kirby rin front and loaderI remember Roger moody They all winding up being a bunch of Backstabber’ my brother-in-law run the other side of the road Rafael it was a cool job

I also worked at newell, I know mr kirby, good front loader operator, I also remember Mr Darrell Hanna, that Good Times I also started as a road man, then as a crane operator for 5 years at the time mr don was the mill operator

The hydraulics may be operating on a maximum of 3000 PSI, I can believe that, but the crusher jaws themselves cannot possibly be exerting this pressure. Do the maths.
