Wasn't it Lorenzo snow who also said that someday we wouldn't have to pay tithing at all ? Or was it Joseph fielding smith? I forget now. The church has so much money, it is insane. I worked for the church for many years and it was always a struggle. My team lost half its workforce and we were told to increase production without having more money allotted or getting.more employees. I was tasked with working the job previously held by 5 people. Meanwhile, the church could have added a dozen workers to my team with a couple hours of interest earned. And increased our salaries to a more livable wage. And then they're cheating with fake companies. If a liberal politician did that they'd want prison time. When their church does it, they defend it. Hypocrites.

It's evil. I was on a meager disability income raising 3 kids alone. I was sure I was exempt, because wasn't tithing for people like me? Boy was I dumb. My bishop said I absolutely had to pay tithing to be worthy. And then one time after 4 years of paying it, I asked for help with a gas bill, and he said, 'you have to ask all your family members for help.' That just wasn't done in my family. But he insisted I ask my sister. She yelled at me for 20 minutes, told me NOW she HAS to help me because she would look bad if she didn't. But I was ruining her life! I kept saying nevermind, it's ok, it's ok, but her image with my bishop mattered to her more than anything. Gross. They're all like that. Not worth it.

1. Nowhere is tithe defined as INCOME in the bible. It's INCREASE. If you have 10 cows that each birthed a cow baby, you owe 1 cow (1/10th of 10 new cows - not 2 cows for the total of 20 cows you now have). It's not about means. It's about increase - the gains on the value of your time, effort, and resources. 2. There are THREE TITHES in the bible: one to Levites, one to use at Sukkot (the fall festival) to party with, and one to give to widows and orphans in the third year (what they're supposed to do in the other years - who even knows.....) Tell THAT to any Christians LDS or otherwise, and they'll FAINT. 3. A church that can right now today plan/build 300 temples at an average cost of $70MILLION EACH needs to re-evaluate its spending. HOW MANY HOMELESS families would that put a roof over???

Didn’t faint!! Yay! Basically, what I got out of that is there is a concept of tithing that has been taught and required with all God’s people. So happens that these days we pay on our increase, which you get to define… not the church. And yes things cost a lot … especially temples. Oh, and if the church was only going to use the money I freely give as tithe to give to the homeless, I’d stop paying and just contribute myself. Building the kingdom of god, as a whole, which covers all needs, both small and great, of all his people seems a tad more realistic and fair to those that believe the law of tithing don’t you think? !!

There’s nothing more infuriating than knowing your parents gave away over 10% of their income to a church that treated them and their kids like crap. All while constantly having to let us down and use the phrase “we don’t have any money” for every single instance we wanted or needed something. And would you look at that, the times our family was closest and happiest, when we weren’t going to church and they weren’t giving every extra penny we had to the church. And what’s worse, I’ve always been close to my mom. I know she doesn’t believe this crap. She gets very, very upset when I have brought it up because it’s true and she doesn’t want to deal with it. But she doesn’t believe this crap. She was a nurse. She knows science debunks almost every claim in the Bible. And the only way to continue believing it is deluding yourself and making stuff up.

They will tell stories of a father who gave tithing instead buying food for his Children . The next week he had a raise in his pay or multiple job offers. Just like the prosperity gospel you have to give to the church who has money hidden in off shore entities never used for any charity…They never say give %10 to charities to feed and clothe people . Nope God says give to the church so the few old men can hide it away and make billion dollar shopping centers. How can anyone in the leadership defend one hundred billion dollars sitting in accounts while telling poor people to starve. Back in the days when some members had zero money, they had no means. If you have a dollar you have .90 cents. If you have $100.00 you have $90.00. If you are flat broke, you couldn't pay tithing because you have no means. Move on to the next distortion.

The substance of what was said didn’t even change without the whole original statement. You can’t pay 10% of nothing.
@ubermormon961110 ай бұрын
If it doesn’t change the meaning, why did they go out of their way to not put it in the book? To save paper? The church teaches that if you have to decide between feeding your family and paying tithing, you should pay tithing. I would consider a person who is confronting that type of dilemma to “not have the means”. So I think it actually does change the way it could affect members’ lives.

God never would want to extort a family of the food on their table. A family gets $100 dollars in their paycheck? Celebration! Let's go simultaneously pay tithes and ask for the food from the bishop's storehouse that those tithes make free! In conclusion, everyone is able as long as they can feel able. With the free and generous storehouses, the church no longer requires the fear of poverty.
