I'm not even a bartender and I can make an old fashioned. 1.5-2oz of spirit (seen them with tequila, rum, whiskey, etc), 2 dashes of Ango (or pechauds depending on spirit), twist of orange over ice in a rocks glass. @@keverz816 the concept can still be done with other cocktails, just with minor tweaks (namely a change to the bitters and/or citrus used to better mesh with the spirit in general). Yes, whiskeys are the original, but I've had gin old fashioneds (mighty tasty, just swap the orange for lemon), rum old fashioneds (these I'm very partial towards, especially with a dark rum), and even a tequila old fashioned (swap the orange for lime and the ango for orange bitters). Just because the drink originates with one spirit doesn't necessarily mean that's the only way to have it. I've ordered a "Rum Old Fashioned" at a few places and the bartender was smart enough to adjust the process and make the drink taste good. So pardon me that I don't stick to the base recipe as dogma.

I’ve had many years in the bar business and can tell you, you simply cannot be pissed at your bartenders for over pouring if you couldn’t be bothered to train them. Over pouring for many is a natural instinct you have to teach them the correct way.

This is so right. How many of the people in this video were fired because of behavior and situation the owner outright created and encouraged? The one with the miss piggy looking lady where she fired the "selfish" Melissa, when she was behaving 10 times worse. The guy yelling at people for stealing from him and firing the one girl even though none of them were trained in how much to pour. That isn't a "landmark" firing, all it does is tell people you're arbitrary and not interested in taking responsibility. Don't even get me started on the people who were fired for having an attitude when they hadn't been paid. Want your staff to respect you? Make sure they get their damn paychecks. You pay your staff before you pay anyone else, including your damn self.

What really pissed me off was the fact that those grandkids were acting like they cared about the overpouring yet were stealing from them. I have a degree in sports management and even though my experiences isn’t in the bar business, I know that managers are responsible for everything that goes on. They’re responsible for hiring and firing employees for stuff like this. The owners are guilty as well not for stealing obviously but for enabling this behavior. This is why family owned restaurants don’t usually succeed.

That restaurant (if I recall correctly, that was Kerry's Sports Pub) was bought by a retiree as a gift for the manager of that place -- his daughter. She went and hired staff mostly (or entirely) made of her children and their exes, and claimed she couldn't implement any systems and/or standards in place to ensure daily operations are up to par. I'm like 'WTFYM??!! That's bull and you know it, you're the manager, wear the pants!!'. Then when Jon busts her children and exes about theft, 'one more chance'. All the staff minus Ken should be ashamed of themselves, but I'm honestly more angry with her because she's let the theft and other mismanagement happen on her watch.

@CJ Groves a pretty successful local one. When it’s slow they eat in the back and then once they have food up or need to check on a customer then they go do that and come back and eat. We don’t get breaks and the waitresses work from 3pm-10pm so they need to eat dinner at some point. the best place I’ve ever worked.

Melody overpoured drinks & gave away shots without charging for the extra alcohol. Janna became collateral damage because she was new to bartending, wasn’t properly trained, and overpoured the most. Janna’s only mistake was drinking the alcohol, but it wasn’t entirely her fault.

@@Elleoaqua Why do addicts lie about their addiction? It's shame, and stigmatizing drug users certainly doesn't help with that shame. Addiction needs an emotional hook to grab on to as well. If someone like myself is very prone to diagnosed depression then drugs become incredibly easy to become dependent on. I have also noticed people who are addicts had addictions in childhood. Sucking thumb into later years, bitting nails, and playing video games are things that can help build the coping pathways that make drugs so comforting and appealing. The same hook I have to alcohol is the same j had as a kid for video games. It's a way to check out from the daily depression I deal with.

During my interview he said to get 30 items a day done. I was at 60. He kept pushing the number up Everytime. Guess he bounced to a different state... he owes money. There are a lot of moments in Bar Rescue where people are improperly heroized and demonized. An employee screaming for a proper paycheck isn't something that should be looked at as shameful it's called getting what you deserve any way you can. There are also a lot of fights that happen over the seasons that are actually justified between staff and sometimes customers but again, it's usually the wrong person being called out. As it is I dunno if this type of firing is even legal, they're literally naming and shaming people before firing them at best and they're brought into a film set and miced all to be fired on camera at worst, it makes me wonder if any of them have sued Bar Rescue or the bars for improper termination.
