I decided to surprise myself and dig deep into my big bag of British Army MRE's, and go out to the woods and cook up the first MRE I pull out. But what could it be? I headed to 'The Enclosure' with the Trangia for a coffee and nosh up.

@@robtheroverRob the issue is while the water is boiling the glue and ink from the label leaches into the water😝 giving any tea/coffee made with it a disgusting taste………imho of course!!! Mind you if you are using military issue T/C I’m not sure you could tell the difference 😂😂😂

@@clivenewton7609 yeah that sounds about right. I think the one I used was slightly melted on the side. That would probably affect the taste in a beverage.

They are safe to eat cold as is - so you don’t need to ‘boil’ them as such… just warm them up. Next time put the pack in the pot 1st and then add the water, [that way you won’t risk putting too much water in and over spill putting the pack in later. by the time the water boils the contents will be 3/4 heated up nearly ready to eat. [shortens the heating time saving on the Trangia fuel.]

I used to get called out during the storms for emergency response and potentially could be out in the wilds for up to 24hrs, so always kept a few ration packs in the vehicle. Although I no longer get called out anymore I still keep them the boot along with tea coffee and a Trangia cook kit.

Forts were fun when I was a kid way back in the Stone Age…Just a suggestion but if you cut the bag meals like MREs along the longer side it’s less messy to eat even with a long spoon. Have fun stay safe.

@ Took me a long time to break the old Army habit of tearing across the top…It’s worth it and you can stir your food better and see what you are eating. Just watched my local weather it say -25 F wind chills in the morning so that’s what -77 C for you guys. Watching videos not going out to do anything I don’t have to.

All day breakfast sounds delightful. Except I would have poured it into the frying pan and cracked 2 eggs into it to poach 😂 I don't get why people get so miffed by people building things like the enclosure. As long as they are using dead standing wood, and not chopping healthy trees down, then why should anyone care?! It would just rot on the ground, so might as well let someone make something that keeps them out of trouble. Cheers, Rob!
