@@wchenfuli see you don't understand what tabernacle does and why alpha duals are so strong
@wchenful6 ай бұрын
I understand just fine. Let's say you add one alpha underground sea to your deck, a gem mint one is valued at 25k+. So now you have a 25k regular casual deck with one imba land. The vast majority of games, you won't have it in your opening hand - hence it hasn't really increased the power level of your deck significantly. Drawing your alpha duel in later turns (lets say 3+) isn't that relevant since it's main strength is in mana-fixing. And since we already have watery grave and triomes as fetch targets, it's not essential. Tabernacle is a different issue: it's only good when you're playing a prison strategy which obviously Richard isn't since that would be unfun to watch a 10k prison deck. You would also need ways to tutor out the tabernacle early and mana denial. Instead, they're playing a meta where the board gets wrathed t5-7 anyway so tabernacle is largely irrelevant - and post wrath, the upkeep isn't very significant. Now Gaea's Cradle is very different in this context: you can draw it post t5 and it will almost always net you a huge surge of mana - and given the lack of land destruction and the low density of wraths, probably for the rest of the game. Add in some minor untap synergies and mana sinks and that's game.

@kylegonewild7 ай бұрын
What are you talking about? Before the Ondu Phil was leagues ahead of everyone else and it's a token value deck that can rebuild faster than stuff like mill. Not to mention he essentially halved the entire rest of the table's life. Game's gotta end eventually, players gotta be knocked out or lose. It's one thing to be nice to someone who was mana screwed all game or had bad draws that put them far behind, it's quite another to just let the person who was winning for the first half of the game sit quietly untouched for a chance to turn it around. I do agree there have been some vibes based team-ups every so often that aren't judging threats at all but honestly, if Phil sat down across from me with one of his actual "I built this for me and I play it" paper decks there would be no mercy.
@dontmisunderstand60417 ай бұрын
When one player demonstrates both the ability to present a lethal threat in a single turn AND recover from a board wipe just as quickly, it naturally happens. The problem wasn't that Phil was targeted, it was that Richard never was. Threat assessment has always been a major weakness they all have in their games, but there's also a reason for that. If threats are always properly assessed by every player, the game takes longer to finish.

So Seth was inadvertently playing his commander wrong, and understandably so as a lot of effects work as it was being played as opposed to how it is worded. You don't drain per token you drain per instance of one or more tokens entering the battlefield. Make a million treasure tokens at once that's 1 damage but trigger an infinite to make a single token over and over again each one will drain. I learned this when I was playing dagger burn with Kambal on arena It took me a bit to notice it to I kept thinking I was missing one or two damage until i finally realized.
