Grab these licks! These jazz guitar lines directly outline the chord changes of the backing track. over a I-VI-ii-V chord progression. The use of guide tones helps bring out the sound of the chords as they change. These licks are in the bebop style and can be transposed and used in any context,

Andy Dacoulis is one of the best Jazz guitar teachers on the web. His lessons are meaningful and effective. His tabs are generous, clear and accurate. In one evening, I improved more than I did, if at all, over years of ineffective practice. His explanations are clear, calm and effective. I warmly recommend studying with this fantastic muscian.

Thx 4 your awesome work, Andy! Just the other day I found footage of a slightly younger version of yourself backing a singer called Corneille! You’ve been around for quite some time and it does show in your tasteful playing!

The way that you explain things is fantastic. the theory behind the lead I 100% understand. Where I get tripped up is trying to do this on the fly. I can outline a chord with an arpeggio but I don't think I could improvise by anticipating the next chord by a half step lead in. Is this just years of knowing common progressions and what notes to land on before the next chord comes? I've been playing for 26 years but this always escapes me.

Thanks for your comment. Visualizing the fretboard will help tremendously. The fact that you know your arpeggios is a great start. Once you become familiar with the chord changes you try to create melodies using scales to take you to another arpeggio. I find that transcribing lines from other players helps a lot. And yes, you are correct - a lot of these chord progressions are common in many tunes (that I've played for years) and I have some strategies to deal with them. Good luck!

I couldn't help but wonder the same thing,@@PostColorGear - his fluency in visualizing where he intends to land - at _that speed_ /tempo! I'm not exactly a beginner myself and yet I have to really devote all my focus to getting the sequence of licks at the outset of this tutorial right and with at least comparable feel and fluency (at most times, I still start out at 75% the tempo by adjusting playback speed, then play it a few times until I feel comfortable and only then return to full tempo - only to find myself tripping... 😂 like you said). So yes, it is telling of his experience in quickly visualizing those lines in order to come up with them impromptu like this. (which only helps to deepen my respect and appreciation for his expertise)
