You know... My abuser showed me the first part of your story with your ex. He must have thought he was a "good guy" because he thought I wouldn't make the connection that my abuser and Haris were similar in demanding things with a victim complex. It took a few more years before I cut him out of my life completely after that. I didn't cut him out before because he'd always play the victim and claim that "I wanted him to do it" in our cuddles. Meanwhile I was just treating him like I would a lady friend because ladies are more affectionate in friendships than boys are. I had mental issues and PTSD that I was refusing to acknowledge. It took too long that what he was doing in our cuddles was wrong. Sometimes I wonder if I actually wanted to cuddle him. Due to my non-acknowledged mental issues and PTSD I let him go past my boundaries. I dissociated. I told him that what he's doing is wrong and how dare he crossed my boundaries. At the time I didn't know that I had mantal issues, so I didn't have an explanation of why he should back off. He demanded an explanation and even dropped hints that he could hurt himself by telling me that he knew where his dad's gun was. He'd purposely drive close to the seawall edge that was bordered by a flimsy cable line just to see my reaction. He knew I was afraid of water even if I didn't tell him. He knew. He knew he knew. He still doesn't know about my confirmed PTSD symptoms. But I had a feeling that he did even if he didn't know the proper term for it. He knew I couldn't trust men because of the evil men that were in my life in the past. He knew that I valued my family more than I valued him. He knew I could snap him like a twig if I so badly wanted to. So he played victim. Cue 7 years of wasted time. But what wasn't a waste for the last of those 3 years in the 7 years was when he mistakenly introduced me to my future wife. We cut him out completely and I'm still trying to accept that it happened. I want to forget my time with him, but it happened when I was trying to figure out my identity and what it was going to be for the rest of my life. He wasted my time, that's for sure. But he didn't waste that I had reasons to cut him out.

(Of course all of this is assuming that you're going through that kind of situation now but better safe than sorry if I can help someone then it'll be worth it in exchange for maybe being embarrassed that I kind of assumed a lot)

It's honestly sick how some people's response to people talking about the abuse they went through is to automatically not believe them or think they're doing it for attention. Why do you think that anyway? Does she have to be completely broken, terrified, and sobbing uncontrollably to actually be a victim? Different people cope with trauma differently. 2) even if there's a small chance she is lying or exaggerating... I don't care all that much because this story rings true to a lot of people. People have been there. Children have been groomed and manipulated by emotionally abusive assholes on the internet. People need to know and be aware of the signs and know that it's not their fault if they didn't see the red flags in the beginning. These videos are important to victims who need support or to prevent this from happening to someone else. If you can't see that or are just too hateful to acknowledge it I dont know what to tell you.

Only as I grow older do I realise how easy to manipulate young girls are. I look back now and I realise how many girls I was aware of who were getting attention from older guys and were complete putty in their hands. Sending photos, doing sexual things because they felt they had to keep up with an older guy and trusted that he knew more about whats normal in a relationship. Seriously, stay away form older guys as long as you can. If you meet someone who's awesome when your 25, thats fine, but when you are young and inexperienced you are vunerable and there are so many creeps who want to be with you for that exact reason. They want a girl who won't argue or question then. They seek younger girls because they don't want to deal with women their own age.

I really wish I would've watched this series at 15. my ex girlfriend was almost the exact same way as that Harris guy. And she pressured me about things all the time. It was only after dating for 4 years and almost killing myself twice that I finally decided that it was time to be done. It was hard and a rough year but I'm a senior this year, ready to graduate and I've never been happier. I just know that someday I will find myself a girl who will be better and even though I still have nightmares about it, my cats will protect me ❤️

The thing that gets me about this is that I had a “relationship” with someone online when I was in middle school too. I am a bit older than Illy, and text message, video chat, and sending pics to a phone weren’t really a thing at the time. I remember the progression from our art website to MySpace to instant messaging. I had a lot of the same feelings as Illy did. Luckily, when I first gave him my phone number, it was to my house, and my mother got the call and quickly got involved. I can only imagine how my scenario would have progressed if I had had a cell phone or WiFi. It got pretty sketchy just through instant messages on the shared family computer. Technology helps lots of people, but it also helps the bad ones. Thank you so much for sharing your story and educating those who might be experiencing similar situations. You are wonderful!

I came across this series right around the time I broke free from a toxic relationship myself.
