It’s so sad to hear people want to take the blame for all bad quality bags that this companies are producing these days, and people are desperate to keep this defective/ poorly made bags. And people are telling you it’s wear and tear after using the bag for 30 minutes. This sends a bad message to this companies and they’re ruining it for the people who wants and demands a well made quality bags. But so happy to hear they’re going to refund your money back. But also, knowing how much you love Chanel, and how much enjoyment you get out of the beautiful pieces....and knowing you would be disappointed AGAIN with a different color. This is just absolutely wild. We all know Chanel has been having quality issues for a while, but the fact that they think THIS is acceptable is horrible. And what makes it worse is you know Chanel corporate has their heads too far up their tuchus to be willing to do anything to fix it. They SHOULD be recalling all these bags and trying to make things right with their customers, but they know that when one customer leaves another won't be far behind, so they won't bother.

I also bought the black small 22 bag and noticed the leather broken in the chain and the rest of the bag looked like it was already used and didn’t look New when I took it out of the box. I never wore it and just decided to return it. I’m so glad I did!

At this point this isn’t luxury anymore. It’s overpriced junk. Luxury means also customer service, excellent experience and not bullshitting the clients and make them look like fools. I‘ve been seeing tons of KZbin videos about the bad Chanel items people bought in 2023. In one instance the shoes were worn off very early after purchase, the staff said they should not be worn daily. 🤦🏻‍♀️😤 Are you effin kidding me??? People should boycott Chanel. Chanel has to oblige to the consumer laws of the country the store is situated in. Here in Sweden, we have a really generous law regarding flawed products, returns and refunds. Chanel cannot make up their own rules just because they sell luxury, the same laws that are in effect for H&M also applies to Chanel. Thankfully.

This is such a good point! Not Chanel, but I had some faulty trainers that a shop tried to refuse a refund for last week. As soon as I started reeling out the specific laws that protect my consumer rights they had no option, I swear they try it to call your bluff and you feel bullied to accept a credit note 😔

My guess is that Chanel could not get the high quality leather they normally use because of the pandemic or supply chain issues so they started using much lower quality leather. Bad decision. It would be interesting to compare the wear and tear of a real Chanel 22 to a high quality fake one.

Great video. Thanks for the update. I wanted to buy the Chanel 22 in the bubble gum pink but won’t now. Also I popped into Chanel last December and I was super shocked by the quality of all Chanel’s shoes. They felt plasticity, hard(no bend) and not at all worth their price tag. I find now the more affordable highend brands like Ganni or Coach do better quality products for a function less. Chloe do fantastic shoes and bags too with real, genuine leather. So sad Chanel has cheapened their brand but saving money on materials and raising their prices by 20%. Karl and Coco would be so disappointed that the brand has gone this way.

I'm glad that you SA was so very honest with you and gave you respectable choices. Not sure that other SAs would do the same. Anyone who is willing to pay their hard-earned money (< or > $5K) on a luxury bag, or any other luxury product, should watch this video and be aware that it is possible for ultra-luxury products to be flawed. This happened to my leather couch around the sides where it's fake leather. This is a coating on top that once it starts to peal or you leave it in hot temperatures it's just gonna get worse. Maybe this is what they are doing with being sustainable lol it's only 1% leather now

Yes, so true regarding SA blacklisting their clients. I didn't purchase a 22 bag but bought the Chanel flap. Due to the horrible wrinkling flaw look of the outer flap, I requested for an exchange or return. That was enough for my SA to band me. She's refusing to work with me now and giving me a rude attitude 😭

These bags look like they are made of coated leather, which is flakes of leather glue together on a PU backing. Lots of very cheap "leather" shoes are made of that material. However, the Chanel bag costs over $5000! I have superb REAL leather bags costing less than $400 which have lasted years and are still going strong (MK, RL, KS, etc).

I’m so happy you got the refund on your bag! I do believe it was the best decision. I have many Chanel bags from the house and this is just unacceptable. Good for you! I still love the house as well! Dacob I’ve had two more recent classic double flaps where the inner snap closure (male half) has almost turned color or rusted and left a mark on the leather right above the (female half) snap It’s discolored the leather. They are both from the boutique. Have you heard or seen this issue? I’m not sure if it’s the hardware or a reaction with the leather and hardware. Thanks so much and have a great day dear! 😀

I have recently bought both Chloe and Loewe and the quality was excellent!! I am however very wary now of Gucci, LV, Chanel, and sadly, even Saint Laurent - although my 20202 YSL bag is stunning! Also smaller brands such as Demellier and Strathberry here in the Uk have some lovely bags at extremely reasonable prices. Heck, Fairfax and Favor too - I am really getting into British brands. OMG! That black 22... I would cry if that happened to me. Not only is her expensive bag ruined but so is her white dress stained black. It looks A LOT like the top coating on fake leather items, that's nearly identical to how it peels... but even then it usually it won't peel like that for a couple years. I've had office chairs, headphone ear pads and cheap pleather jackets peel exactly like that. It has to be synthetic. Looks like a synthetic coating that can't stick to the base leather or whatever they made the bag out of. It's like oil and water. I'm happy that you were able to get refunded. Its sad that they screwed up first with the sweater and then with the bag.

Dacob, I am so glad Chanel gave you a refund, that was the right thing to do. I would never buy that bag now. I have an order in for a classic flap pre fall, now I'm really worried about the quality. This will be the first Chanel bag of this year I will have bought. I usually buy at least two a year. I don't know what to do now. Very concerned about this quality issue.

Dacob I love your honesty and humour. This is totally unacceptable. I stopped buying Chanel a few years ago after I had to return a new bag twice for faults in the stitching. And at what they are now priced at, I'd rather buy something else or put it towards fine jewellery. My SA even said their prices were ridiculous. Love from Sydney🥰💕

I agree with your SA that it's time to "close this chapter" but ugh i know the feeling of having to return a Chanel bag you love for issues. I had to return my PST because of the CC logo stitching and it was so heartbreaking because i loved the bag just hated that the CC was wonky and could not unsee it. And that was not near as bad an issue as you encountered with the 22. I hope they do correct this issue and that more people return their 22s so that this issue will be noted by Chanel. Our favourite brand once again disappoints us.

@@SuperDacob i know it's actually one of the better things that can be imperfect about a Chanel bag...when we're seeing the issues we are seeing as of late. Wonky stitching is like "meh" compared to "um, the bag is falling apart?"

Rose Anvil (youtube channel) often discusses different types of leather and how many different ways leather can be processed and this bag's peeling reminds me of some of the products he's reviewed/shown. He described a process once in which you take leather that is either bad quality, or "okay" quality but doesn't look good and coat it with something along the lines of PVC or a mixture of PVC and paint to give it a better-looking finish / make it appear higher quality. What's important about this is that it is technically real leather, so none of the tags are lying or technically misleading you because it is animal hide, just highly treated/processed. This bag looks like that leather; the under layer passed the finish looks like a leather that has a lot of texture to it's surface and it looks like it was coated to give it a smooth finish. I am not a leather expert, I have no experience in the field of leather making, but this looks A LOT like certain items Rose Anvil has pointed out before. Usually, on Rose Anvil's channel, this coated-leather is used on shoes that are selling for excessive amount of money because they are the leather version of what normally is a fabric sneaker. So the price tage will be over $200 USD, but really the "true" quality of the leather used does not warrant the price tag they pair with it.

Good on you for returning the bag. I would return it too if it were me. The quality is awful for the price. Why would I want to pay so much for a bag to keep it without wearing it. Then what's it's function? You can baby it while wearing it, but not to wear it? It's a no for me. For such a bag the only solution is to return it. People who may face issues are those that didn't wear theirs immediately. If they find it cracking or find others complaints of quality issues past the 1month return date.

If you want quality, you need to go back to 2016/17. A bag can be classified as leather although it has almost no leather in it; just like this bag says made in Italy, but where it Italy and by whom, and they are not handmade anymore...

I could imagine that it makes a difference what color and what finish the leather has.... But this bag in this color probably wouldn't have lasted for half a year. In 3 months she would have looked terrible. But others probably had better luck, for some it's at least in an area where you can say > ok, it's just the casual look you wanted...

In some of receipts say the leather in French and states the 14day return policy 😉

I have the first iteration of it in black size small. So far, no problems. But now I’m worried. I’ve only used it a couple of times since owning it. Purchased it back in April. Can’t see any wear n tear, but have minimal use with it thus far. The stitching on my edges does go over where the chains go through the bag, like Romina’s. :( Wonder if I should use it more now in order to ensure these problems don’t start. Any recommendations of what to do?

I would use it and see if peeling starts so you know if you should return it or not. The small size has less weight so could peel slower since maybe friction might be lighter but this is only speculation on my end. Good luck either way dear 🙏🏻💖
