If you've followed the WideFox build long enough, you know it has been having trouble with a stuttering problem around 2,200 - 3,000rpm. I've replaced a lot of the older parts, but never the distributor. So I did that. And... It lasted 2 minutes before overheating. I allowed it cool down a bit, and started it again. It ran for about 30 seconds, and overheated again. I'll admit I didn't apply more thermal paste to the TFI module, but I've had enough of the constant TFI and distributor issues. Rather than spend $85 on a FatMaxx TFI module relocation kit, I thought I could build one for half the price. I spent hours planning, building, assembling, and it failed. It kinda works, but with issues and more distributor problems. The Cardone remanufactured units keep letting me down. In the end I just quit, and am putting the car back together with known good parts. I'll work on it later.
My name is Canaan Manley and I am the proprietor of Basin Motorsports. Basin Motorsports is a small garage in South Central Oregon aimed at rebuilding vehicles, making one-off custom parts, and documenting the process step by step for viewer enjoyment and intrigue. I'm an Engineer and Consultant by day, and have been a motorsport enthusiast for the last 30 years.
My car projects to date include a Nissan Versa/Tiida hatchback (Project Meep), a Nissan 240sx S14 (Project Zenki Redux), a '92 Ford Mustang Foxbody Notchback (Project 9deucecoupe), an '80 Ford Mustang Foxbody Notchback (Project WideFox), and an '86 hatchback (called the Gray Lady). Follow along in my adventures from car shows and car builds and I'll entertain as I give you all my secrets to build your next project.
