I've always dreaded the 5 year plan because things can change so dramatically without warning. However, I admire that you are taking your property into perspective and allowing yourselves the grace you need to go step by step as excited as you may be. You've inspired me in more ways that I can count and I am grateful you share as much of your life that you do.

Jess, I know you, and Miah have dreams for your property. Have you sat down, and created a list of projects needing accomplished? Hubby, and I moved out on our 20 acres 4 years ago. We sat down and made a list on white board and hung it on the wall for an easy visual. Each time we finish a project, a line is placed through the project on the board. It's an amazing motivator, and it reminds us of what remains to be accomplished. We gave ourselves 5 to 8 years to complete the projects.

When you’re feeling down about where you’re at in the process (which you shouldn’t be, look at how much you’ve done in the last few months!!), remember how spending your time planning and readjusting is going to truly pay off in the end. Embrace the process as preparation for when you build your learning center. You guys are kicking butt and it shows!

I'm sure it makes him feel needed and wanted, too, and that's extremely important. Glad you piled up the topsoil from where the workshop is sited, it will be better used elsewhere, for sure. I love Miahs tutorials and level of perfection within his work ethic. 1000% if he were to make his own “super dad/husband” channel-I’m subscribing and watching everything! I love y’all 💕

I think doing a series of building like that would he a great idea. I personally think just doing a dedicated Playlist for that would be good. But another channel would work too!

It seems to me you are doing a lot, moving a large family AND farm animals AND numerous pets...cross country...in the summer heat AND getting 5 0f the six kiddos enrolled and ready to start school a month later! That's huge! It is such a blessing to see your dad on your property, and looking good too. Now that he's doing well, and the kids are settled into the new school, all your things are now there.....it's all coming together.

A quick structure for warm weather farrowing that we used was to wire 3 wood gates in a triangle and set plywood over the top. Plenty of air circulation and rain cover. A good bit of straw and sow and pigs have a happy home until they are ready to run around the pen. We let the sow out twice a day and then opened it up after the pigs were a few days old. Your 2nd structure is close in shape to what my dad used on our 100 sow operation. Wish I had pictures and plans to send you. It was in the hilly Ozarks and we used forks on the back of the tractor to lift and move sheds around. Dragging wouldn’t work over 80 acres of hills, rocks and trees. Some sheds were basic shelter with open front and no floor. Some had a floor of maybe 1x6’s?He then used the shed as a base for a portable farrowing barn facing 2 sheds together with 2 stalls in each shed, 2 more at the end, hallway up the middle and doors on each end. Platforms and feeding stalls on the front end. Those were used in winter. Then carried to the shop for cleaning with the pressure washer. He piled the waste that built up under them and composted for the garden. A nice innovation was the back of each part of the barn had a livestock panel and then the back plywood piece hinged up for air flow if it was too warm.

I love the pig shelter with the enclosed area. Looks great. My grandparents were migrant farmers. My mom said they did have issues with their sows killing each other’s babies. It’s a great thing that yours don’t do that. ❤️ I’m looking forward to seeing your bacon seeds!! 😉 Baby piglets are the CUTEST!

A suggestion for the pig houses; Get a pvc-pipe and cut it in half lengthwise. Put it under the skids, to make them slide easier. I saw Ben Hollar @The Hollar Homestead do this.

If you have the time a second channel focused on building / workshop content would be really interesting. Great to see your dad on the farm too.
