Props to the butlers for moving all the lambos out of the driveway on a short notice for that final shot. Being able to work out at home is amazing - even though my home equipment is just not enough to be called a home gym, not to mention it's kind of scattered around, I get way better workouts at home than I could ever get at the gym. wow, that's beautiful. I moved to a more rural area and bought a farm 3 years ago. For about the first 6 months, I was looking at the barn on my property and thinking I should do *something* with it. It had a hay loft that was pretty disgusting, but it kept dry in the rain, so it had potential. First I had a carpenter build some stairs for me, then I leveled the floor and put down plywood. I put insulation in the roof to keep it a little more comfortable. Then I bought 40 horse stall matts, and created a nice hard cushioned floor. I have about 900 square feet, but mine is a whole lot rougher than yours. Still, this is most consistent I've been in my life (I'm 57) of lifting, and I'm finally starting to get legitimately strong. To give you an idea of how rough it is, there is a ratsnake living in the ceiling. That's fine, because he can eat whatever mice find their way inside. For my pull days warmup, I like to start with 5 minutes of battle rope. Yesterday, the snake was in a spot where he could see the battle ropes, and he started coming out of the rafters to check them out when I started using them.

Really beautiful facility. Congratulations. I'm particularly jealous of the Free Motion machine. I built a home gym in my basement. Not nearly as nice or as big as yours, but I completely agree about how awesome it is to have your own music, own equipment, and not have to deal with the many frustrations of most public gyms. One thing I worried about is emergency/safety. I'm a bit older than you, and I was concerned that if I ever got badly hurt -- hopefully not likely, but also not impossible -- it might be hours or longer before my wife missed me and thought to come look. If I had a cardiac problem, or a bad accident with heavy squats or something like that, where I couldn't move or get to a phone, that could be a bad day. I ended up doing two things. First, I put an AED, medical oxygen, and a good first aid kit (with a tourniquet, etc.), on the wall. Second, my home alarm company hooked up a wireless medical emergency pendant that I can put on when I'm doing squats, etc. If I get stuck in a life-threatening way, and I'm still conscious, I can push the button and get help on the way. Anyway, just a thought. As annoying as public gyms can be, if you get hurt or in trouble, there is usually someone around to help or call the ambulance. Maybe worth thinking about that aspect of working out at home.

Its amazing how much i get done in my very small home gym without feeling like i even did anything just screwing off and watching you on the TV, distracting myself from work with a few sets hear and there... it adds up and my rest time is maximized. Instead of gas i can afford more protein and toys too. Literally dumbells, a barbell, a bench, gymnastics rings and bands. I put an old shoe over the barbell and jam it in the corner for a landmine. Works perfectly. And for cardio, i power walk OUTSIDE. That is all i have and there are so many things i never even do. Home is where the real work happens. The commercial gym is more of a social outing to see some tail and say hi to the bros because its so packed in there. Good place to polish up the physique but i no longer rely on it to get my gains. If i have a plan itll take me 3hrs stressing to get it all done waiting on machines or ill have something come up and i dont make it, then i feel like a failure. With a home setup, there are zero excuses. Zero none nada. I'll go lift in my underwear. Dont even need laundry or shoes.

Here I am proud of my home gym with one mirror, 4 sets of square dumbbells from 8lbs to 45lbs that I stack on top of each other if I need heavier weight, a barbell with up to 100lbs of plates, a whole bunch of different tubes and resistant bands and all the hook ups, door anchor pull up bar, and a coffee table I turned into a bench. For legs I got a dinning room chair and a system of bands i can interchange/replace for leg curls/extensions. I know bands and tubes aren't optimal but they work just fine for someone who likes bodybuilding as a hobby and doesn’t have a lot of money. I’ve went from 300lbs no muscle to 160 skinny now back up to 190-200 with muscle mostly using my homemade gym so decent progress. I use to have a set of super heavy tractor tires that I wielded a bar between and would use for shrugs/deadlifts but I moved and couldn’t take it with me (it was a very sad day lol). If anyone has any suggestions alternatives for a home gym I’m all ears.

Misconception. Powerblocks are $500 for the top end. They offer payment plans with zero interest. The bare bones Rep Apparel Power Rack, barbell, and plates would run you a few hundred dollars. Do the steinborn squat, clean to press, deadlifts, and then dumbbell work and you’d be in insane shape. Top top end of all that is maaaybe $2k and you could buy it in installments. Most people can afford that over a two year time period.

@@Dtaysh I have a bench (for the past 23 years) with few transformations it can do and around 100kg of weight, it's good enough to do some workouts, problem is space, in my last apartments it was and is impossible to use it because of a too small space to deploy it.
@andersbjrnsen7203 Жыл бұрын
but why would you want or need those machines if you are indeed regular people? a rack, a barbell, a suspension trainer/rings is really all you need, and that can be quite affordable. and if you want to spend more, a cable system some specialty bars, dumbbells and voila, you can really train better than in any gym.

I need to get more weight for deadlifting. I'm currently doing just weird 5 sets of 20 to 40 for weird high volume deadlift sessions. I can do rdls. I can't squat because I don't have a power rack but I do single leg stuff with like 65 to 185 lbs on the barbell. NY bench is sketchy. I have two boxes set up for safety racks that I built to function ad a safety rack and also for steps ups. I love it. I don't have much but man having a gym st home eliminates all excuses. Just today I didn't have time to train really because I'm painting my new house. I set a timer for 15 minutes and had it repeat. Every 15 minutes I stopped painting, went to the garage and did 225 lbs on bench until failure basically. The next timer would go off and I went in and did pull ups until failure super set with inverted ring rows until failure. I just did this on and on for 6 hours . Got 12 functional sets for both chest and back.. I finished early so theoretically I could have worked out today but now I can go be a bro and do arms.

Thanks for sharing your gyms with us. Yeah being a short King myself I get what you're saying about testing the machines. I personally have to try the machine before I add as a piece of equipment in my gym. Not having a lot of space in mine I agree with you 100% that having different handles can make your machine into a whole new one.

Dr. Mike. Just found your channel. Love your home Jim. Love your style. 5 foot seven myself. Grew a bodybuilding. Doing judo. And wrestling. Love that you keep science in the forefront. And you keep telling the truth. Keep busting the fucking head with that knowledge and logic. Thanks again brother. Short kings forever. 20:09

Dr Mike! My most favorite attachments you should check out : tricep rope pulley. Its a classic tricep rope but witha pulley system in the middle that makes it super smooth and adjustable. Cant link it for you though

Think of the poor Lambo salesman who didn't earn a commission when you bought this instead of an additional Lambo. However, easiest bonus the Prime salesman has ever made.

Hi Doctor Mike, as a newbie to the gym I have a question regarding gym wear. Should we wear hoodies or singlets or short sleeved shirts? Cause I see the rock training indoors with a hoodie , and am wondering… is it better? Or is it more of a bald thing?
