My son would come home from his Castilian-speaking babysitters and excitedly tell me about his day. He was just two or so and I thought he was speaking gobbledegook or "baby talk". I would say things like,"Oh, my!" and "That's wonderful!" as he told these seemingly magnificent stories. Then one day we were in a grocery store when we ran into two of the woman who worked for his babysitter. My son was "talking" and pointing to the shelves. On of the women said, "Oh, listen! He's talking about the juices on the shelf!" All that time he had been speaking Castilian! He continued to be a step ahead of me in many ways!
