About the biscuit lady weirdness: I had a similar experience walking alone in Ikebukuro and a group of ladies came up to me and started giving me advice on food, then proceeding to ask me questions about who I was and why I was in Japan. Then they wanted to invite me to have lunch with them but I felt so weirded out and got a bad vibe so I declined. Later on my boyfriend looked up common scams in Japan and it seems like foreigners are sometimes lured in to things like these and then tricked to pay for food and then charged waaaay too much money. I don't think the biscuit-lady had a scheme like that in mind but the weird vibe struck me the same. It's easy to think japanese people are always kind and friendly (because most are) but I've met a few creeps while walking alone in Tokyo.
@LuizAlexPhoenix4 жыл бұрын
Shinrinkyo also did stuff like that, IIRC they lured people and pretty much imprisoned them. The law protects religious groups so they abuse it to do all sort of crazy things, up to murder.

@@christophermichael.w.7577 I was never worried about crime while living in Tokyo and I always felt safe no matter the time of day. Actually, if you look through all the videos they are in, you can clearly see that it is Chris, not Sharla who had the first crush. Even when she was married, Chris looked at her differently. That is the feeling I get. I always got a feeling he was into her, but never acted bc she was married

As a fellow miserable sarcastic Brit, I love that you don’t get that sort of manic high-energy ‘I’m so happy all the time’ vibe on this channel. You never get a fake feeling from Chris and it’s very refreshing

My girlfriend and I went to Japan last year and we had an experience similar to your custard creams story. We were on Miyajima and had just gotten to the base of Mt Misen. We had stopped to get a rest and admire the autumn colours of a tree where we were resting. After a few minutes of that, a group of Japanese people approached us and started engaging in small talk with us. They seemed friendly enough and asked us to take a photo of them. Just before we left, they handed us a card. It wasn't until I looked at the card that I realised that they weren't just random nice people. They were trying to recruit us into their religion.

In japan, if u r hiking, cycling especially when u r going to travel around japan the local will treat u very well, giving u food or drinks, cheering u up, a friend of mine travel around japan with a bike and everytime he talk to a strangers about wt he is doing and going to do, the locals will usually excites by this act and support u. The custard snack was something like that, I love it.

Now that I think about it, I had a weird interaction with a middle aged japanese woman too in when I was 22. I was waiting for my clothes to wash at a coin laundry, when she started chatting me up. I made a passing comment about wanting to go to an onsen at some point, but that I didn't have time to during this trip. She started offering me a ride to one that was supposedly close enough to walk to. This offer of hers weirded me out immensely, since no Finn would ever offer to drive anyone they just met anywhere, barring actual hitchhikers. Turned her down, finished washing and drying the clothes and returned home. Still don't know if I should've just took her offer, just to see where it lead.
