Great video and problem solving. I have 3 tractors with diesel motors (they happen to be green but I'm not picking a fight) and none of them have a soot problem, even on start up. Long ago my mechanic mentor told me that a smoking diesel often has the timing a little bit off. Just a thought. Kind Regards. Craig

That's a great looking solution. You would hate any of my tractors! I need a hack for fixing 2 or 3 oil leaks per tractor next! :) Nice video Ed. I like the "swoop" sound at the transitions.

It will made a difference. I did this last fall. Used a muffler clamp which I am ok with. After the winter I had no black on my front mount blower. . Thanks for sharing

I used a radiator rubber hoes. If you hit something with it the rubber hose will bend, where the steel will tear off your exhaust. Later

Nice video and explanation. I modified my Kubota exhaust as well to prevent the black soot all over my front 3P hitch. A clamp was also my initial thought to mount it with, but went for a TIG welding instead. Still very happy I changed it, never had any blackening since. Hope yours works as well!

Ed, I really enjoyed the video as I do all of your content even though I don't have a Kubota. I had to laugh though at your statement near the end. You were like yeah I don't think I need to cut this pipe but cutting it is easier than reshooting video, lol. Laughing because I reshot an intro 4 times the other day and yea it's a real pain.

So, after a trip to your Amazon store….I think I’ll try the auto parts suggestion on the hose clamp. I just like the look of what you used over the Amazon alternative. I may try that on my John Deere 1025r Ed. My snow blowers went from yellow to black over the last two or three years. I'm having a new loader installed on the tractor on Tuesday and it would be nice if that didn't turn black as well. I've been thinking about doing something similar for a few years now.

@@MyClutteredGarage I noticed it smokes more when it bogs if the rpm’s are high. Is that the nature of these? Say it’s running 2000 rpm and i hit a pile and start lifting. It drops to 1000 rpm and smokes like a train

Nice little hack there, Ed! 👍 My L3901 has a little square metal box over the exhaust that says HOT on it right there.....can't recall if it angles down or not but I don't get soot on the FEL and I haven't ripped it off yet in thick brush!

The DPF prevents the black soot on the over 30hp tractors. That’s probably the only benefit of the DPF….no black soot on your loader🤣

Okay…back AGAIN… one more time! I’ve got to recant on the hose clamp. I still think the double seal is better, but my comment about price was off. In fact, you can get TWO of the Amazon alternative for the price of one autozone HOWEVER, the autozone one IS a true double wall where the Amazon alternative is not…but for this application would work perfectly well!! 😅 I’m goin for more coffee!! 🤪

The trouble with directing it directly to the ground is when the ground is dusty, it blows up to the driver. At least that is my problem with the extension I bought from a company in Quebec Canada

SWEET mod Ed!! You’re absolutely right about the hacksaw. In fact, all tools. I like having an extra anything as a back up, but investing in one that’s absolute quality and then taking care of it, I think serves you far better. My Dad always said…”let the tool do the work”, and you are as right as he always was! At first I thought, just leave the flared end on but, AGAIN, you were right…looks much, much better flared off! Good a good laugh at the saws all sound effects too!?🤣🤣 I also much prefer the hose clamp over the muffler clamp for the reasons you noted. In fact my friend, I’m outta here so I can order some right now, to have around next time I need one! Outstanding video! Now, let me ask…do you think angling it down even a wee bit more, would hurt? It’ll direct it straight to the ground. It’s looking like you might catch that soot problem on the inside of the front wheel and that could over time, degrade the quality of the tire? Ed, does your mind ever rest? Do you ever get a full night sleep? Once again another great idea and video. (Because of a serious injury when I was a professional firefighter, pain wakes me in the night. I often spend a couple hours of pain insomnia watching KZbin. Looks good Ed, I was at the jd store last summer a guy put a pipe on a 1025r . I don't know how he clapped it but it turned and melted the hood and started a fire the salesman told me. The guy thought jd insurance should cover it.

Buy a tractor with a metal hood story. NICELY DONE. That is a lot of heat. Imagine if it had regen cycles. Maybe we should measure the exhaust temperature first (at high rpm).

I think I have 3 of those cheap hacksaws. I have since upgraded to the trigger versions. After 4 years of the exhaust blowing on the loader of my 2601 I don't think it will ever be orange again. Cool upgrade! I'm curious to see what kind of difference it makes.

Hey Ed, nice video. I'm curious to see what it will do in the long run also. I read another comment about using high-heat resistant hose and that sounds like a good idea at least for my purposes. I haven't modded mine and may not because I grapple into brush so much that I'm afraid I would do some damage with a rigid extension. Maybe not. LOL Thanks for sharing, buddy.
