AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on KZbin are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!

Sean, Great video. So I love the 30amp plug to use with my 23' 2019 Airstream. But can I just use ONE unit, knowing I cannot run the A/C? And will ONE run the minor items like lights, and charge AGM batteries a bit? Or do I have to purchase two generators? Note: I currently have the Westinghouse 3700. It's been horrible with starting issues, carburetion problems, and terrible customer service. Leaving for a dry camping trip and need a new Genny.

I have a smaller yamaha and it has a huge flaw about it that you don't see until you fully read ALL of the manual (I tend to be very cautious re stuff like that). The flaw is you are supposed to use A DIFFERENT CARBURATOR if you run BELOW 4000 feet elevation than if you run ABOVE 4000 feet. You gonna change the carb every time you go from a lower desert into the nearby mountains and then do it again going the other way around??? Does your rig also have that requirement?

Nice video! We travel with a Honda 2200 - just one for our 5th wheel powers 1 AC fine (with micro-air easy start). We also have an inverter w/lithium batteries and solar (I installed these) so we can pretty much camp wherever without worrying about electric power. The lighter weight of the 2200 watt generators is definitely a plus. The Honda we have is very quiet - prior I owned 2 Yamaha 2000 watt generators (both had carb problems later on - replaced carbs on both and they were fine ...) With respect to running a generator in the bed of a truck, we were camping in Assateague State Park last October and witnessed a truck and trail catch fire due to the generator (running on propane in the bed of the truck with the top of a tonneau cover over it) - tailgate was down. It disintegrated the late model Super Duty (aluminum was gone, left the frame end engine block) and the camper was a total loss also (completely burned up). After that I am very cautious of the heat a small generator can put out. (Owners lost their cat unfortunately in the fire.) My general opinion is that the Honda carbs seem to be more robust when it comes to operating after being stored for a while (compared to my old Yamahas). The new one you demonstrated had a nice easy way to drain the carb - I always shut the fuel supply and let it run dry - still leaves some fuel in bowl.

Sean, We are considering changing from a Grech Strada Ion Van to a Airstream Trailer. We live in Central Florida and camp some here in the state as well as around the US. We are looking at the 2024 Trade Wind or a 27’ Globetrotter. Will one A/C unit cool the Trade Wind in Florida? Is two ac units a must? Is the Two A/C a better option on the Globetrotter 27’? If we boondock with the Globetrotter is a generator ok or upgrade the Battery’s and inverter? Thanks John Cassady

Sean, would love it if you can check out the Westinghouse igen 4500DF some time. It's dual fuel, will run a full 30A trailer continuously (3700W gas/3330W propano, close enough). But perhaps most importantly it includes remote start, something Champion seems incapable of adding to a dual fuel unit.

I've been following you guys for years. First time commenting. Great video, awesome channel. I have a Honda EU3000is and looking to get the smaller Honda as well (I have soft start a/c). Here in CA I expect all the small engine repair shops to go away (reference comment thread below with Mikenb11). I'm probably sticking around (salt of the earth an all). So I've trained myself to do 90% of the maintenance on Hondas myself. They are fairly simple to work on. I'm not a motorhead so I don't want to complicate my life too much with having to maintain different brands. So, are you planning a meetup sometime at the Mexican Hat Boat ramp?? Gololoho!

I HAVE 2 OF THESE SAME GENNIES. 2020 MODEL. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN FULLTIMING SINCE JUNE 2022. DISCOVERED 2 THINGS ABOUT THIS MACHINE THAT I NEVER EXPECTED; 1-IN EXTREMELY HOT WEATHER THE GENERATOR WON'T RUN. BACK STORY; LAST SUMMER WE WERE IN THE THE SALMON RIVER CANYON AT A PLACE CALLED SLATE CREEK RECREATION SITE NEAR WHITEBIRD IDAHO. GOT SET UP ABOUT 3PM. GOT BOTH GENERATORS GOING TO RUN THE AC (IT WAS 105*). WENT DOWN TO THE RIVER FOR AN HOUR OR SO TO COOL OFF AND RETURNED TO NO GENERATORS MAKING ELECTRICITY. AFTER A GOOD HOUR OR SO OF RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THE UNIT WILL NOT RUN WHEN THE MACHINE TEMP INSIDE THE PANELS EXCEED 120*. WE SUFFERED FOR THE NIGHT. 2- I CAN EASILY HANDLE 55LBS OF MACHINE WHEN I LOAD THEM INTO THE STORAGE COMPARTMENT OF MY 5TH WHEEL. DISCOVERED ITS NOT A GOOD THING TO TILT THE MACHINE OVER FORE TO AFT WHEN LOADING AND UNLOADING. SOMEHOW ENGINE OIL GETS INTO THE AIR CLEANER BOX AND THE ENGINE RUNS TOO RICH AND STALLS, ALOT.. CLEANED THE AIR FILTERS AND VOILA NO MORE STALLING.

Honestly I think the sale of generators have been banned in California (as of 2028). I'm sure fentanyl will remain widely available but thank goodness they are cracking down on small engines!

@@LongLongHoneymoon Unfortunately, I am sure you are right about that. I don't think the average person in said area realizes this, but while they are banning small engines and demanding that all coal power plants be shut down across the country, a certain country in the eastern hemisphere that already burns way more coal than we do, has more coal plants on the books to be built between now and 2030 than the US has currently operating...oh well, at least they can 'feel' good about their emission reductions in CA.

Interesting video, i'm curious why you didn't go with the Honda 2200I's and parallel them, the engine is larger and thus noise would be less and they will handle load a bit better and lower rpm compared to the smaller engine that needs to work harder at equal loads??? The Honda's are lighter and fuel savings wouldn't be a consideration as although the Honda's aren't rated as well, they wouldn't need to work as hard as the Yamaha's and therefore fuel usage should be aprox equal. The Paralleled Honda's would also carry larger load much better due to the larger engines JMO.

I know the Honda has a one piece cylinder, therefore if you need to lap a valve or the like, you have to take it apart from the bottom instead of removing the head. Does the Yamaha have the same problem? This would convince me to buy the Yamaha instead of the Honda. Also, does this have a propane adapter so I don't have to worry about spilled gasoline and a fire?

Hi Steve, you are very observant. This tool is very similar to the bone tool, but honestly, I think the bone tool is currently residing inside our trailer. So I grabbed this anonymous tool, and to be quite honest. I have no idea exactly where I got it, but I have two of them! they must’ve come with some sort of product we probably purchased in recent years. Nice review.. as usual. I'm a little disappointed to hear about having to somehow replace the whole CO detector when their battery dies! Hopefully there will be some kind of generic replacement or there will be a whole lot of obsolete generators in 5 or 6 years! I'd be interested to see your opinion of what may almost be the holy grail of RV generators - It's 3500 watts, dual fuel, remote start, and only around 60 pounds! (only thing it doesn't have is the RV plug)... The Genmax GM3500 iAED..

Thanks, I will definitely check out that generator. You mention, as that does sound like the holy Grail!!! as for the CO detector, I completely agree, and did a double take when I read that detail in the manual. Frankly, I am not certain if the generator will operate if the CO detector fails. The product manual is not clear on that point. This could be another example of a well-intentioned regulation sending a lot of equipment to, the landfills at an early age. I hope not, but adding this complexity to these units will probably be problematic over the long term. Thanks for your comment!

Which doesnt need to be paired and is much quieter and has 30 amp rv etc The Yamaha, although good quality, just seems to fall into a wimpy loud niche Id rather carry one generator that can do it all My Champion 2700 fits in my truck and can handle anything my 27' AS throws at it So my take on this unit is one is almost enough and two is overkill

It would appear that Kristy needs to do a better job of editing the X rated comments out 😁 That, and she better be close at hand should you need remove the fuel cap 😃

Get your mind out of the gutter! There are no X-Rated comments in this video, only industry standard terminology -- as printed on the generator itself! You are correct about that fuel cap, I don't know what happened there... 🙈

Good review. It is a little disappointing to see that even the respected and quality Yamaha brand has resorted to making their products in China. *Come on Yamaha... you're better than that!!* 😆

Surprising to me also. The 3000W unit is still made in Japan. It is built like a tank.

You can get two WEN 2000 Watt generators that will do the same thing and run for over 7 hours on a tank. The price is half of what you'll pay for Honda or Yamaha.

One can never be too rich, too beautiful, or have too much electricity. (Well, unless one is struck by lightning - that would be too much.) I like having multiple options. Last year we had a major problem with our solar inverter and I was thankful to have backup.

@@LongLongHoneymoon I’m an amateur with only 3… Water cooled Honda 6500 wired to the house, a Honda 2000 Companion and a Harbor Freight 3500 Predator. You’ll have to review a Predator sometime. Very affordable and mine at least, quiet and very reliable. The Predator is my “go-to” when traveling with my 2017 International Serenity 25 FBQ.

Why doesn’t Honda and Yamaha make the 3500 to 4500 watt inverter generators rather then the smaller 2200 watt units? Who wants to lug around and maintain two separate units. Seems ridiculous.

Not another gasoline generator! Every unit that you are given is your new favorite. This one is no great improvement over my 10 year old Yamaha 2400, which I happily now leave in my garage now that I have a sufficient power station plus solar.

Great video as always. That cock is crap. They should have just installed a fuel shutoff and just run the carb dry. My two Firman gens have fuel shut off so I can run the carb dry and simple two wire parallel kit. Work great.
@LongLongHoneymoon
@LongLongHoneymoon Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting perspective. I own some other units with a fuel shutoff. I agree that you can accomplish the same goal with that method, but I kind of like having the drain cock option.
@waccamaniac
@waccamaniac 5 ай бұрын
Fuel shutoff doesn't usually run the float bowl dry. That's often where your problems occur because degredation in the gasoline there clogs the jets. So it's important to run the float bowl dry.

Things change and they're just providing options. This option would be useful for people who wouldn't be able to lug the champion out of your truck to use it with a short cord to keep from losing voltage with a long cord to reach your truck if you can't unload the generator solo. If you're happy with your champion, this video shouldn't make you feel differently.
