I love the beginning of a new year because it's always a chance to make a new start! As a way to sort of refocus at the start of this year, I've been reading from the Didache--which is an Early Christian text, and wanted to share some thoughts that I've had about that. See the link below for an excerpt from the text.
Hope you have an awesome week!

Happy New Year to everyone there at the Bruderhof Laura. I like the 'two paths' observation. I think there should be a definitive list of agreed upon DO'S & DON'TS available that determines which path you are on by categories... POLITICAL RELIGIOUS ENTERTAINMENT CAREER FIELD EDUCATION HOUSING For instance, if the way you've chosen to plug into society involves liberal positions on abortion, membership in a satanic cult, indulging in pornographic entertainment, working at planned parenthood, studying islamic terrorism tactics and living in a filthy hoarder house...then you might be headed towards the dark side. I think a lot of people are unclear about exactly what constitutes evil nowadays. People seem to be rationalizing sin in many more ways than they used to and getting offended more often by Biblical commandments. So the book could have black pages on the bad side with white lettering and white with black lettering on the good side.

You speak such sense Laura and it brings me hope. I will visit Bruderhof community in Kent soon. The more I read and my zoom meetings with Jesse and Lenor the more I feel this is my path.

Happy New Year to you and your community Laura. I joined a meeting at my Church on Thursday, and sadly our Church is suffering financially because of covid, lots of people decided not to gift money because they weren't able to go to Church, this actually inspired me to give more, I'm saddened that people decided to go elsewhere, I had to question where because all churches in UK were out of bounds so to speak... I was told the children were going horse riding instead !!! GOODNESS Me ...

Happy New Years to you and Chris. The Didache is very good. Seems like a compilation. As to complaining, some things have to be or they will not be addressed. Then some call telling of everyday things as complaining when it actually is not, it's only how things are. I only say that, as there are those that would use any comment as such as justification to accuse someone of complaining. Then what some call complaining is only venting. Or, they have an issue, they're not sure what to do with. In a sense, they speak of things, looking for resolve, but not asking. 😉 It's necessary to spell things like this out sometimes. We are human with needs, we're not spirit yet.

Mrs. Laura, you like to cook, I seen ya, you likes cooking. I can't cook really. But, I am pretty good at innovation and ingenuity, 😉. But, anyway, apple crisp and peach cobbler is delicious. But, what if you added a couple extra fruits but instead of chunks, minus leftover from grating the fruits, I bet would make the cobbler or crisp much better. Simply grate or run through a food processor that grates. Then instead of adding white sugar, yuck! I seen others just dumping that stuff in, uhh. But, with apple crisp, add a can of Apple concentrate, 😉, unh hunh. It'd add flavor and sweetness. Then maybe a cup of light mild honey. The peaches, I've never seen peach concentrate, though it'd be good, maybe mango concentrate if you can find it. Of course some light mild honey. In place of white sugar, yuck, 😉. Cut fluid by certain amount for that added by honey and concentrate. Cutting chunks probably resulted from just this is how it's done! But time to make it better.😉, Unh hunh! 😉, Oh, instead of water on any apple crisp, figure fluid from Apple concentrate, honey and if short fluid as water, how about apple sauce? Unh Hunh, good cracker.

I really enjoy your energetic approach to life! I read the link and this one truth from your link I really believe in, especially in a Capitalistic country like the USA- "Give to everyone who asks you, and do not demand it back, for the Father wants something from his own gifts to be given to everyone." I live by this logic as a Catholic. I am not a Church going kind but I know so many people that do not give a nickle, so to speak, and yet hold high moral status in their own minds and the Church. I think that this is what keeps me from going to Church but my wife and I are Christians and pray a lot, go to a Bible group every week, and we also help friends and neighbors and our community, as we all live in some kind of community, the best we can. Maybe we should call it "Intentional Giving!" The old saying, if each person helped just one person out, what a world it would be, right? I saw your Capitalism video. To be fair, in many ways, the USA is more Socialist than some countries including Russia and China. The problem is the programs are being run by greedy people in high places and politics, of course, gets in the way. I read in many articles that Americans also give more than any country in the world, even billionaires give up their fortunes. You do not see this in rogue countries. I think you said that you and Chris grew up in Bruderhuf communities. What about new members and how long does one visit your community before the decision is to join? What is nice about Capitalism, people think outside the box, take risks, and meet a need and get rewarded for it. The problem with our country is they get rewarded beyond imagination like Jeff Bezo's or Bill Gates, etc. However, in their defense, they reinvest it all and hire millions of people creating millions of jobs. The trick is taxing the rich, especially the ones that don't give back. So, Capitalism with the right mix of Socialism is what we need, almost like China but with our 1st Amendment of freedoms. I actually feel safe in China, as the punishment for crime is enforced unlike this country. One of your videos talk about leadership. At Bruderhuf, do the leaders pray and live like everyone else in the communities? From the smallest state in the USA, Robert Fagnant

Thanks Robert for your response! Yes we do have new members ... it varies how long before someone takes vows but discernment generally takes over a year. And yes the people who are appointed to leadership live and work alongside everyone else. We consider each other as brothers and sisters. I hope you visit some time!

Warm wishes to those who were recently baptized. And may I ask if those people are nervous during the ceremony or do most experience a sense of peace?

Hi thanks a lot. I got baptised 2 weeks ago at age 27. I was very nervous. I was also very happy and excited. But I had to say my creed and the Lords prayer up front in front everyone and I was scared I would forget something. It all went super well and no mistakes happened. I was also nervous because my whole atheist family was there and everyone was watching. Nevertheless I felt completely at peace with God and the utmost joy in my entire life. I was close to tears because it was so beautiful. Afterwards I was so so happy.

We're all guilty of something, which is why we should know what is wrong, which the conscience will tell many of us, some are calloused. Then confess your shortcomings and sins. Where look at the soul. Material things can't be taken with us, but things of the spirit, good or bad, we do. God forgive us for us for our sins of word, deed and thought as well as what we have not done. More, what is sin, it's when it's in your hands to do good and you do not. One of 2 answers. So besides word, deed and thought we do, it is also what we do not do, of course we're suppose to do good reasoning.

very nice, I think that part "give me clean body" meant we should eat bio and become vegetarian, and the rest was quite complex theological ideas.

I am just finding your “channel” and I have a question. Excuse me if you’ve answered this before but in your community do you not have introverts? I need much private time eventhough I am happily married and have raised children. I’m retired now. The thought of most meals communal is very uncomfortable to me. Maybe just the whole communal thing just isn”t for everyone. But, I”m wondering if you do allow for more introverts in your community with exceptions to how most things work. Like, someone who would prepare for others, help with the cooking, but then retreat to eat alone or just with their own spouse.
