I'm a mother. If my son killed me I would forgive him. I would have no peace knowing he was still in prison after 30 plus years. Not speaking for their deceased parents at all. I just feel they have demonstrated themselves to be better citizens in prison than many humans out running free among the general populous. May God heal their hearts. God bless.

you, unlike Kitty, sound like a good mother that loves and cares for her child. Kitty despised the boys, as he told many members of the family according to her own sister's testimony. Kitty also allowed her husband to r*pe and abuse the boys for years. her 'forgiveness' should mean nothing. however, the boys (now men) do deserve to feel at peace and it breaks my heart that they have to live with the guilt and trauma of k*lling their parents, even if the parents deserved it.

The jury in the second trial was not allowed to know about the abuse, and half of the witnesses were barred from testifying to the emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. The same judge should not have been allowed to preside over the appeals trial. Plus, new evidence has surfaced from letters Erik wrote to a cousin about the abuse and a member from a boy band their father helped manage claims he also molested him. The lead detective did not test their hands for gunpowder residue because they were in such a state of shock and believed they were telling the truth regarding their fear of being killed and the abuse they both alleged. Even their relatives feared their father and told of how controlling and overbearing he was, unfortunately they didn't help the boys. The fact almost all their relatives except for their mother's brother want them released is very telling. They deserve a retrial with ALL the evidence, including new evidence. The fact that Erik confessed to his therapist indicates that the killings consumed him, as he mentioned having nightmares and difficulty sleeping, which at least suggests that he is not a psychopath. I don't excuse the murders, but I believe they've paid the price. They are model prisoners, have no behavior infractions, and prison officials talk highly of them.

@@amberam7437can you send the link? They don’t even usually go on camera and only talk about what they do in prison and not to be rude but a lot of co’s are really fucked up people. Don’t get me wrong they’re human they’re gonna probably get frustrated every now and then and they’re in for life so even more understandable. They have done a lot though with sexual abuse victims and will read the peoples letter and write them back to say thank you for sharing and basically tell them like don’t resort to what we did try and find anyway possible to escape. Some lady has been pen pals with Erik for a long time and he even sent her a painting, honestly the painting in prison is real smart bc you can take that anger or sadness out on the paper.
@ReturnOfTheJ.D.23 күн бұрын
In a weird way, is this excessive incarceration without the possibility of release, not similar to the abuse that the parents wreaked on them in the first place? It has a similar feel to it - like an extension of it - a way for the state to take over the role of abuser. I don't believe the State was an abuser of them until around a decade ago when it got too excessively punitive - 25 years for this crime given all the mitigating circumstances is sufficient - beyond that it's abuse, the likes of which you would have seen many decades ago now for this crime, not today. The culture by 1989-1996, when the murder and conviction occurred, hadn't evolved much beyond the 1800s as far as this type of crime goes.

I am so glad my country, Norway, is allowed to teach the prison system in USA how to treat the inmates. I am an educated socialworker/ nurse. And I wrote my bachelor about prison and what made the inmates rehabilitated and ready for a desent life when they get out. It was interresting to learn something about the prisonsystem, because we seldom know exactly how it actually is in jail.

If 2 women obliterated their parents who were in the den eating ice cream they would absolutely have been given LWOP. The violent nature of the crime dictated it. But I do think that victims of sexual abuse who act out violently are now given some leniency. Based on how Lyle and Eric have conducted themselves in prison I do believe they should be resentenced and released.
