But the question I have is.... while all of this jumping was going on, how much enjoyment did you get watching your birds feed? We ended up with our feeders on metal poles from the ground with a healthy slathering of Vaseline and hot red pepper powder. They learned quickly it was not worth the pain and eventually they went to better hunting grounds.

If your baffle was wider or your feeder was thinner it would have worked with only one baffle. My granddad's rule of thumb is if the squirrels are coming from above and you have a 1 foot wide bird feeder you want a 2 ft wide baffle. For example when we had bird feeders made out of two-liter bottles we used a modified punchbowl as the Baffle. When we had bird feeders made out of dinner plates we used trash can lids as baffles

My pole feeder is not near a tree - my squirrel baffle works because they have no where to jump from and its attached to pole. I did invest in some cages to put around my feeders and I only put white millet and safflower in my open feeder. Squirrels do not like safflower (chipmunks do, however) I feed my squirrels. I toss peanuts away from the feeders for them to find both shelled and unshelled.

Just a thought - a single baffle, inverted sitting on a collar round the pvc would stop them. As a squirrel tried to get over the rim, the baffle would tip and eject the beast. Possibly even more hillarious footage! I enjoyed the B-roll footage. PS. When it rains, the water collecting in this would be another deterrent.

Thanks for the video. It doesn't have to be cone, I made a single baffle two feet wide close to the feeder which has to be no more than an 8 or 10" in diameter.. Also it's better if the baffle is on a thin line not a pole so that when the critter climbs anywhere on it it immediately dips over 75 or 80 degrees. It's also important to have the baffle absolutely smooth so the squirrel has nothing to grip to. By the way I had a cat who jumped over six feet up and caught birds. Ask me how I know all this!

time stamp 8:45 you had a squirrel on that feeder despite the double baffle. We don't have squirrels. I think they're cute. Maybe if you give them some food on the top baffle (reversed) upturned, they may leave the bird feeder alone. Maybe.

At end of this vid...an ad for another vid. _Catapulting squirrels._ Brain: *"I need to watch this!"* Me: "Is that animal cruelty, laughing at the squirrel's misfortune?" Brain: *"Shut up, watch and learn something!"* *"This is scientific study"* Seem legit? 🤔😜😂😂

The squirrels loved it! I have squirrel feeding stations setup all around my yard with the EXACT same food that's in the catapult bucket...I once filmed a squirrel get launched 5x in bout 15 minutes...ran off wagging that tail every time ha

@@CruzesLouisianaOutdoors I had a cat, a good few years back, loved being dragged around by his tail (not yanked, you understand, but a steady drag) and loved being thrown across the room onto either the settee in my living room, or the bed. He'd scamper back after each 'flight' for another throw. If I didn't throw him he'd flex his claws onto my skin or gently nip me, until I complied. It was always funny to see the look on visitors faces, as went went through this routine. When he'd had enough he'd stay where he'd been thrown and that was his signal he was done. I've always fed the squirrel's, as you do, and figured out a large slinky, three quarters of the way up the pole, defeats themselves , but I honestly think they enjoy the stimulation the challenge presents to them. I live in the city and I'm guessing the lack of humans going about their usual rat race activities has given even the wildlife pause for thought, so I'm all for keeping them occupied. Thank you for responding to my comment. I appreciate you taking the time out.

You don't have the baffle cinched up tight, they can get their claws into that lip. A stovepipe works much better, then put some nasty grease on the seam, they don't like to get their paws sticky.

Thanks for the fun video! I just recently bought a gallon cayenne pepper powder in bulk! I started to sprinkle the cayenne pepper into my sunflower seeds and suddenly our mischievous pet squirrel Stumpy jumped off of the feeder after munching for a few minutes! Stumpy was a ninja and would dive 20 feet past all my defenses! The cayenne pepper may be working! Did anyone else try this?

I use baffles on the poles supporting my feeders- works all the time.
