For example, the movie that they made on Ted Bundy, which was also a netflix original, wasn't and still isn't available in many countries to this day. I casually watch both Charlie and Jake but not a fan of either. Charlie comes off as incredibly jealous to be honest in this video, and he makes weak arguments with no proof. Like saying that Jake didn't do this for cheap - what if instead he didn't ask for much money knowing Netflix could expose him to a whole new audience? Also the reasoning since Jake is a vlogger nobody is gonna watch is incredibly naive. People that heard of the guy but never followed him might be intrigued in watching the doc to understand what the fuss is all about.

And of course there will be that weird one-off film that is set in the same universe but has nothing to do with it about an Irish Scotsman who's proud of his English heritage, but never takes any shit when hes pissed. I watched a documentary about Netflix’s rise to prominence and if I recall correctly one of the reasons they create so many flop-shows is bc it’s far cheaper to do a “Netflix Original”than paying a studio for the rights to host a show or movie.

I honestly think the subscription services will get totally fucked by the strikes, but the production companies are so out of touch (like you said) that the only product they will provide will be "reality TV". They (Netflix, Max, Prime, Apple etc) will ultimately raise the cost of their subscriptions claiming its "for the writers and production value" but continue to give us crap.

actually Charlie, the number is so high because of regional netfix originals. I can count about 20 popular and 50 overall original series launched ONLY in Hindi. if you count India's other regional languages which have their own Originals the number could be close to 100. the number is high because the originals, which are genuinely popular , are released in specific regions ONLY sometimes.

I find amateur filmmakers who haven't gone to film school have their own unique way of making films/shorts. I think Netflix needs more of those people. I've seen many amazing short films on KZbin that were made by people who have years of experience but never went to film school or had a big budget. Just a camera and editing.

The reason why Netflix is "doing well" on paper is because of their international productions. They may be going weak in the US, but theyre very dominant in a lot of markets. Imagine countries that don't even have Prime or Hulu and Netflix is your only foreign subscription? That's the case for a lot of countries.

No he doesn't jock strap. Charlie is such a whiny cry baby poosee it seems like his tantrums are only getting worse. He has no good points about any of this, people cry because they rehash and reboot everything, but as soon as someone tries to make something other than a well known IP they complain like this. "According to this data" no actual source or reference to where or what that chart was or where it was from , then using it for his dumb moot argument was embarrassing and sad. Followed by "I pay good money" ok Richy Rich tell us about that premium you're paying that's keeping you up at night to the majority of people that are actually just getting by financially. Here's a thought, if you don't like their service don't use it, why do you have crawl on all fours in a diaper to your KZbin audience, validation? Cheap brain dead content for monetary gain because you have no real good ideas of your own for content? Both? This video is a perfect showcase of how idiotic narcissist KZbinrs love to live in a echo chamber. People are starting to wake up to your bv11shlt Charles, this isn't a good look for you, might want to start setting a box of tissues and tampons in your camera shots from now on to really drive the message home. Stay getting called out Moist.

I can tell you why they’re coming out with them now. Back in 2017/2018 Netflix put out their new requirements for things to be shot on if you wanted to submit it, and made it public. To the shock and surprise of many film students and faculty alike, (I know because I was in film school at the time) the camera minimums were things that a lot of people who did videography for a living could afford, or already had. Moreover, Netflix had just released Making a Murderer to critical acclaim, and that was the direction Netflix wanted to go in and try out. So Netflix then put out a “bounty” of sorts, and advertised that they wanted to buy up any and all documentaries that they could, in order to have a catalogue to burn through and find the next Making a Murderer. Problem is, there was no real quality check on these things. So what people were submitting were just generally trash, and now because Netflix needs releases, it’s what we’re getting in 2023.

Netflix will never have a big catalogue of on going popular shows with the way they do business, because once a show gets big, those working on the show have greater negotiating power for their contracts. And Netflix does not like that.
