The proper way to test the heater is by also doing a resistance check. 12 volts at the heater does not test the heater element. You need both a voltage and resistance check to see if the heater is working.

Many name brand tool companies sell low amp draw ( around 100 to 200 milliamp ) computer safe test lights as I have 4 of them. Mandy knows his stuff on these computer controls. Great video friend.

I own a 2012 Mustang GT my question is regarding a 5 wire diagnosis, I recently had a P0155 code indication its a bank 2 sensor 1 O2 sensor fault, (drivers side upstream) replaced the sensor and still have the same code, after further looking into this the wiring might be at fault, do you have a diagnosis of how to test the wiring for a 5 wire O2 sensor?

Yes, about 1 to 3 cycles per second is normal for a healthy O2 sensor. Amplitude from 0.2 to 0.8 is good. We have an O2 sensor video right in this channel. Go to ADPTraining (click) and do a search from inside my channel. Good luck.

Do downstream 02 sensors share same 4 wires to the ecm? It's a 96 vortec dual Exsaust so 4 o2s but I can't find wires that go to bank 2 anyware so can I just take those 4 wires and splice into the other rear 02 sensor that goes to ecm? Any info or direction would be great thank you

On my vauxhall vectra c 1.8 their are 4 wires on my oxygen sensor 2 white wires which is the heater wires and a light grey wire which i guess is the signal wire but not sure and a black wire which i think is the ground wire but again not sure because i have been told its the other way round,can you help me on this before i do the test as my ecu light has come one pointing to down stream 02 sensor but i need to do the test before spending 90 pounds on a new one which i can not take back once openend to try,i would hate to damage my computer by short circuiting the engine control unit.

Mine has a 3" black round rubber piece that the 4 wires go through instead of a female or male connector. Is this a special connection or just to hold the wires together? 2000 Mercedes S500 Base 8 cyl. 5.0. it was on there when the car was new. Is there a universal sensor instead of paying Mercedes over $200 for one sensor? Awesome video. Thanks a lot.

You NEVER EVER use a test light to diagnose computerized circuits. The test light will draw more current than is allowed and fry that circuit! Use only a DVOM (Digital Multimeter) ! A test light does not show you how mulch voltage is available. It only indicates that voltage is there. It takes 3 volts to light up most test lights! A DVOM will tell you exactly whats available and not damage circuitry. Also, this testing method applies only to a Zirconium Dioxide O2 sensor not a Titania type.

Hi There. Great real life video that's how to show it. I'm also interested at this moment about cold engine and hesitation when good idle but then increasing RPM which makes it go rough. As I understand it, the O2's, FPR and EGR have no input until they reach operating conditions. Also how should downstream O2's behave as mine is 290mV generally. If it needs to be high say 900mV then could I make a potential divider and produce the 900mV to see if it ineed makes a difference. I don't know what current would be needed yet in order to make the devider. I had a 1131code swirl valve and when I cleared it as I needed to for the MOT it went as above. Also now and before, it went slow up hills and hesitates. Thanks a lot for any info.

+Ilovetosingem On older systems rear O2 has little to no activity. On newer baby converter (small catalityc), the rear and front O2 follow each other. I have a problem I can't resolve . I have a 4 pin 02 sensor where the plug broke apart . Both upstream and downstream broke on passenger side . Any info on how I can connect the proper harness wire to the 02 wire ? Any help would be great . 2003 jaguar s type r .

I've been using a test light to diagnose computer circuits for 20 years. Get a test light hook it to a battery and measure how many milli amps it draws. Mine is .140milli amps. Most solenoid pull around .300 milliamps. So hooking my test light up to check a driver in the computer or what ever will not damage a thing. Even mini relays that pull .100 milli amps my light hasn't hurt.Just make sure you use the correct bulb and check your test light so you know how much it pulls. A test light without a bulb is useless to me.

70corwin Nicely done Corwin, but not everyone has an understanding for current flow in milliamps as you do. Yes, you can definitely use a LT with a low current bulb to test lots of electronic circuits, since you're simply injecting a bit of current in the circuit. In fact if it's an LED TL the current is so low that it won't trigger certain circuits making in useless. The idea is to employ more than one TL, as in an LED, Bulb-type, stress loaded TL, etc.

Yes but wrong. You need to test the heater element by disconnecting the sensor and probing with the ohmeter for the heater element. Reading should be less than 10 ohms and more than 1 ohm.
