@tarabooartarmy36549 ай бұрын
That's unfair. I'm not a huge fan of it, either. But honestly, if they can make a decent income to feed their kids and still stay home with them, why should we judge? When I as a kid, I would have been THRILLED if my dad did something like this, because I could have had clothes that didn't come from yard sales and get me bullied in school. We lived in a singlewide trailer that was falling apart, I used jackets and backpacks and shoes until they were falling apart, and ate beans and cornbread until I was so sick of them it took decades for me to enjoy them again. My dad worked fast food, and my mom was on disability. If I could have been on the internet and had a "normal" life (not wealthy, just average) I would have jumped at the chance. Maybe not all kids would feel the same way I did, but if it can save them from poverty, I say let's not judge. Is it an ideal situation? No. But neither is never being able to afford health care, or healthy food, or school supplies, or the other necessities of a healthy life.

I work with neglected children and I see hundreds of parents like her every month. They take offence when we mention their child’s obesity, because they are obese themselves. When you point out that a diet high in sugar is rotting the child’s teeth, they shrug and say ‘so pull them out, they have more coming!’ They don’t want to hear about proper brushing habits and replacing soda with water. You explain just pulling teeth will also mess with their permanent teeth, they tell you they can sort it out when they grow up. Literally just waiting until it’s not their problem. They had two young kids and their house was an absolute wreck. Trash everywhere, just squalid conditions. The man was on welfare and the woman on social security, I was the only one working (two jobs at that). They had severe mental illness and didn't really cook or clean. They got food stamps but spent it all on junk food. I would use my paychecks to buy fruits and veggies for the kids. There was this sort of deeply engrained mindset and refusal to change or better themselves that is very reminiscent of the attitude of this woman. They just genuinely don't think it's that bad.

For two items that likely wouldn't last very long for a family with three kids. For that amount, you could alternatively get the following. A dozen eggs, 42oz container of oats, 16oz frozen bananas, and a 16oz great value peanut butter. Not only would the meals from that likely last longer, be more filling, and be healthier. I work with young kids (12 months-3 years) and this lady is unreal. I come from a low income family and have dealt with weight issues my entire life because of a mom like this. She could get a couple bags of frozen veggies, bread, and maybe some sausage and that last a week or more for those kids for breakfast. It’s all about making the small difference you can. My work kids who have even slight weight issues at that age are already struggling. I see the difference not only in terms of their ability to play but also how much fatigue they have and how quickly they get hungry because it’s all goldfish and cookies in their lunches which doesn’t fuel them at all. Even if you are struggling there is no excuse to give your one year old donuts for breakfast. At the very least giver her some real fruit and not sugar packed applesauce that will not fuel her for more than a couple hours. I have seen low income families at work make sure that at the least they throw in some cucumbers or carrots and not give their kid juice or soda 24/7. All my kids that come from moms like this have one thing in common. They are pacified with food instead of being parented.
@mummytrolls10 ай бұрын
Seriously. I’ve had a very low budget before and made it work. I could never afford junk if I didn’t want to be hungry. I consistently bought frozen veggies, canned veggies, apples, bananas, maybe some in season fruit if it was cheap, beans, tofu, eggs, milk, peanut butter, bread, rice, tortillas, cheese, and yogurt. That didn’t cost much for me where I lived and where I shopped. I could feed 2 people for $25 a week at one point when money was really tight. When I was much broker than I am now I’d crave junk food and be tempted by it when passing it at the grocery store. Remembering that I could only afford a bag of chips OR veggies it made it clear to me which choice was right. Veggies are nutritious and filling. Chips only satisfy a craving, but they would not cure my hunger. I chose long term health over short term satisfaction.

Listen, eating highly processed shelf stable food is extremely expensive. Cookies, doughnuts, soda, juice, boxed meals all that costs a fortune. I have been on a poverty budget before. $75 for 4 people for 3 meals a day and a snack. I had to bake my own bread, make pots of soup, sandwiches were made out of whole chicken that i roasted at home or peanut butter. Vegetables and potatoes are the least expensive sides. Fried rice stretched out with vegetables is what i called a free meal because it goes so far. Breakfast, oatmeal, eggs, buy a bag of frozen fruit its less expensive than fresh, bake muffins for easy fast meals. Frankly, if you are buying junk food you arent that broke because you need a lot of it to fill a belly up. Its a nonsense excuse that makes zero sense based on the cost of food.

Damn that was basically my exact diet when I was really poor lol. People who say it’s too expensive to eat healthy lack creativity. And they’re probably lazy, not to be mean. Premade “health” meals, takeout from “health” restaurants, organic food sold at grocery stores, and stuff like that is expensive. If you shop the sales, use coupons, and most importantly you cook, you can eat well enough. I bought stuff like frozen/canned veggies, in season fruit, rice, tofu, beans, milk, cheese, and bread pretty much every week. With that plus stuff that lasts longer (soy sauce, seasoning, oatmeal, etc.), I could make meals like soup, sandwiches, tofu scramble, oatmeal, bean burritos, beans+rice+veggies, eggs in various styles with veg, and more. Those are all super easy to make, you just gotta be willing to cook a little bit and toss in whatever veggies you got to make it work. Junk food was too expensive for me to afford. I couldn’t just spend $3-$5 on a bag of chips or $7-$10 on a box of granola bars or even spare $2 for some candy that’ll last me 5 minutes. None of it was worth it. I could have veggies OR chips. Candy OR fruit. Juice OR milk. The decision was easy once I remembered that.

But 80% of our meals were fast food/takeout/dining out… But grandmas house there was no rules. That’s where I got my first taste of binging, no longer was I stealing my moms snacks. She wanted us to have them, Little Debbie full size oatmeal cream pies, nutty buddys, Swiss cake rolls, ice cream and my parents would bring us fast food to eat while we are there. I was being built to self destruct. I’m down from 350 pounds to 180 now. The behaviors are still so ingrained in me. Going vegan saved me because most sweets I can’t have, and I can’t just walk into restaurant and order something if it strikes my fancy. Yep we grew up with a four family household for a few years before my other siblings were born. We had no family except us four, no aunts or uncles or cousins, nothing. My mom stayed home and made food from scratch (she made bread from scratch, boiled lentils and beans instead of buying canned, made french fries from scratch) and thus made each dollar stretch to its full capacity while my dad worked 3 jobs. It was the right balance of cheap and healthy.

@pokemami10 ай бұрын
@@AprilMonger we used scrap pallets and plywood we collected during bulk pick ups. We only had to buy chicken wire and the tin roof esque material. It wasn't tin but sun resistant plastic. After they were full size I just trimmed flight feathers and let them free range. They helped so much with the composting and provided great soil for our garden. We built it two stories so the bottom was a chicken run and the second floor was the nesting box and night coop.

Everything I see her feed that baby is name brand. Those Dino nuggets are 10 bucks alone! Like, if your broke get the plain boring nuggets that are off brand for 5 dollars. She buys name brand donuts, cheedos, squeeze apple sauce, and so on. There is no way this woman is poor. She buys ground beef. Ground beef! I can only afford chicken and tuna in a can. Maybe shrimp if it's on sale. Ground beef is over 10 dollars at the least to feed a family! How is this woman poor?! I shop at Aldi, the Dollar Tree, and Trader Joe's for some items I can't get at the other two. All of my food is off brand. I can't go to the food bank because it's only open on Thursday's when I'm at work. I'm currently working on getting food stamps. She is not poor. This is just a cover up. There is absolutely no way. Now my little one is 18 months and we sometimes give her some bread but usually it's still just milk and there's absolutely no problem to wait until lunch then. I appreciate your take, John. I understand the concept of poverty and not having the money to purchase high end meals. I grew up on WIC, in the middle of nowhere for some time, but i think the difference between this mom and my mother is education and dedication to feeding kids proper meals. She learned to grow some of our veggies, we ate government cheese and yeah some of the meals COULD have been better. But they were all homecooked and made with care. The amount of porkchops I ate as a kid because that's the only meat we could afford... but I was still fed meat and veggies. This mom either doesn't have the education or willingness to learn how to coupon and grocery shop smart so she can purchase somewhat healthy meals. I have sympathy but it really only goes so far.

Tooth decay is going to be a major problem, too.. and while you can do the work to lose weight as an adult, you can't regrow adult teeth that were lost as a teen because you ate nothing but sugary foods/drinks. Such a shame. I grew up in a low income family, and when you're so poor that you think you can't afford to eat healthy, you also aren't going to the dentist... not that the dentist can reverse damage done on a daily basis. When I moved out as an adult, I was dirt poor.. could barely keep a roof over my head.. and I ate the healthiest I ever had.. I just had to do some simple cooking. That bag of donuts is more expensive than basic ingredients.

@broski8728 the majority of them are in the south, especially the Louisisana, Arkansas, Mississippi area and up towards Kentucky and Tenessee and also large areas of the west (unsurprisingly). @broski8728 a food desert can occur anywhere that one must get into a vehicle and drive at least 20 to 30 minutes to get to a store with fresh produce, meat, and other groceries. If someone lives in a populous downtown with many restaurants but no grocery store within walking distance: food desert. Assuming everyone has a car is a privilege. Many low income folx have to take public transport, and I know very little public transport that makes carrying multiple bags of groceries easy. Assuming a low income momma with 3 kids is gonna get all 3 meals from the dozen restaurants within walking distance to her every day for her kids is unsustainable and unaffordable.

It doesnt take that long to crack a couple eggs, make toast and serve scambled eggs (and i say this as someone whose poor currently, eggs are a cheap source of protien - and beans too)

Beans were always go to toddler snacks for us. Through poor times and not poor.

Literally and add some butter or oil to the eggs to help with fullness if you can't afford to eat too many eggs

@@monkfruit2389i learned to make my own butter and oil too which saved money.

Something I cannot understand is how a low income family can afford to have sweets and donuts and stuff like that… because in my country a low income family are non fat and some can’t even afford to eat daily and if they can, they are not going to buy McDonald or sweets, they will buy potatoes to be able to eat soup even if daily. 🤷🏻♀️

Could be a number of reasons. There are some food deserts where fresh produce and decent food isn’t as readily available but plenty of junk and fast food to go around. Lack of education could also factor into it as well. Lack of support, whether it’s financial, transportation, delivery, (good) food, mental and physical health programs and children’s programs could deeply affect this as well Also could be downright willful ignorance or unwilling to change their diet for their kids benefit. I cant exactly understand her situation due to having multiple avenues of income and adding two other adults involved…

I grew up in a household with lack of focus on healthy foods. I remember once my mum bought a big bar of chocolate for me instead of real food, because ShE cOuLdN't AfFoRd FoOd ThAt EvEniNg. As an adult, looking back at it, it baffles me. I think what bothers me the most about this situation are the people defending her saying "at least the child is fed and happy" like what, how LOW is the bar for parenting these days?? As if giving your child a bag of the unhealthiest food on earth because you're too lazy to do anything else is good enough because "at least the child - that is too young to make an educated decision on the subject anyways - has food in their belly and because of that they are happy." Some people are also trying to compare it to children that are off worse, saying things like "at least the child is getting food, many children go hungry, so this isn't that bad". Might as well be saying it's ok to beat your child 5 times a day, because there are children out there that are beaten 10 times a day! The fact that a worse alternative exists, doesn't make the first one better. And don't even get me started on the comparison with sugary cereals, claiming it's just as bad... First of all, sugary cereals usually have way more fiber and general nutrition. It's already better for you. But second of all, who even feeds sugary cereals to a toddler who should barely know what sugar is. Toddlers are so young it's usually easy to keep them away from sugary things, at least on the daily. Give them something non-sugary and they'll be happy. Unless you've trained them to like sugar covered donuts, there is. What also really disappointed me is Abbey Sharp defending her, basically saying it was ok. When it absolutely isn't. Children aren't old enough to make their own decisions on food. It's the parent's god damned job to make sure their child is fed healthy enough things. It doesn't have to be perfect all the time, but giving your child sugary donuts for breakfast and later pretending it is because you couldn't afford anything else is ridiculous. There is no way in hell you couldn't find a better option for the same prize as the donuts. She bought the donuts because she wanted the donuts. End of story. She made a bad decision and it backfired onto her children. The bar for parenting is higher than this, folks. She has the means to educate herself and learn what to eat and what not to eat. The child doesn't. This is the parent's responsibility. She needs to do her damn job as a parent.

I want to say shout out to your mother - getting kids back means she did a LOT of work, jumped a million hurdles, and often does not happen.

I get where she's coming from. She is basically my Mom. We grew up very poor. My mom was young. She didn't know how to cook really. So she did her best with what she had. Also, we lived 20miles from the nearest grocery store and didn't have a car. We were able to get a ride once a month to shop, sometimes twice. So fruits and veggies were not abundant as a months worth would rot before we ate it all.

So no one in the whole Throuple will precooked something better than donuts for this baby to eat😟 that's the sad part 3 adults involved here.

Yeah three adults should be able to come together to get frozen veggies and such… these are just three mentally ill adults not focused on what’s important which is ok, but wasn’t ok to bring multiple children into this. Having one and then taking responsibility is good, but too many women have 3 or 4 before they’ve learned to be Independent with the first one : (

Absolutely no excuse, you can buy fresh veggies, fruits and meat at Dollar Stores and grocery stores, Walmart, Target etc.

People love to argue about being poor and food deserts but when it comes to cheap processed high calorie foods YOU EAT LESS OF IT. Or you’re supposed to… being poor doesn’t make you fat… overeating does. If you’re poor and are buying cheap high calorie foods then you should be eating less of it making it EVEN CHEAPER. I’ve never understood this argument for obesity in low income houses ok… like it’s fully counterintuitive
@ActuallyAShrimp10 ай бұрын
Exactly. If I go to the store, a large chip bag is 5$ the same price as a bag of frozen vegetables! 1 candy bar for 1$ could be 1$ for a can of soup.. So many alternatives, yet not one used instead of junk.

Her Q and A didn't help, It just keeps getting worse. If that laundry list of issues is true she doesn't need Tik Tok she needs therapy and someone to explain to her as reasons you should get into a throuple go, so your ex will get back with you is not one that screams this means they really care about you tbh. It's all too sad to see and hear tbh..

Those name brand hostess donuts are not cheap. You cannot tell me a bundle of bananas cost more than those donuts. She needs to stop feeding her child processed garbage .

Sorry to hear about your mom--I grew up similarly. My mom had a drug problem my whole life, until she died last year and I ate awful and cheap food too as a kid, gained tons of weight from it and I still haven't lost it. I feel for this kid. But she is totally rage-baiting too, like that thruple nonsense, lol.

I grew up in a very similar household and something I think people are missing here is that low income households (some not all) lack nutritional knowledge to prepare foods correctly and choose balanced meals. I didn’t fully understand proper diet and nutrition until I was in college and lived on my own. My family still prepares meals that look like that. They just don’t know any different

Maybe she should think about how her kids feel about themselves having a mother who doesn’t smile, has a flat affect, is depressed (which she is). She is damaging them which is heart breaking and I hope her kids aren’t exposed to her relationship decisions.

I really appreciate family channels that hide their child’s identity by hiding their face and not saying their name. I think that’s the least you could do if you’re going to use them for your content, you know?
