I have a 1996 holden frontera sport which is exactly the same, exept the rear suspension IS coil. It has 330,000 k's on the clock, has a 2ltr engine and gets 10.5 ltrs per 100 k's. It weighs 1.7 tonnes, handles like a sports car, well for a 4x4 anyway. It's very capable off road and I don't mean just dirt roads. Steep rocky hills are no problem but due to the lack of power isn't very good in sand. It may not be quick or fast but it's a 4x4, not a race car. I have owned toyota landcruisers and nissan patrols and my little frontera compares very favorably, to the point where I have owned it for 13yr and it was10yrs old when I bought it. I have driven it from one side of australia and back with out any problems and it's still going strong. I love my little "tera"

Leaf springs are a big flaw if you drive it mainly on the roads, but as someone who lives in a forest and carries a lot of heavy stuff in the boot, I can say that Leaf springs are a good choice for Off Road Car, except for things like rock crawling, because then you need a lot of flexibility so that you get as much grip as possible and with leaf springs you don't get that. For Mudd, Sands or just carrying heavy stuff, they are a better option than coil overs, because they are stupidly simple- a slab of steel that holds the wheel in one place. It's really hard to break Leafsprings offroad while Coil Overs are much more delicate.

He never got round to it, and it sat there ever since, completely uncovered and untouched through 8 winters, and was slowly sinking into the grass. His girlfriend finally had enough of the eyesore a couple of months back, and persuaded him to get rid. Scrap man offered him £100 to collect as it was, but we'd need to get it out on to the road. We put a charged battery on it, and it started after about 30 seconds of cranking, and drove itself out of the hole it was in, and on to the scrappy's recovery truck. Didn't sound much worse than the new one in the clip either, but it smoked a LOT more lol :-)
