I found a hidden gem in the suburbs of Florida, (Jared) Weems from Weems Motor Co. was kind enough to invite me over to his humble home garage for a glimpse into his world. And, while there, I could not pass up the offer to take a ride on what is the oldest bike I have ever ridden! This 73 year old Triumph has a very interesting story to tell, and Weems has done his due diligence in making sure that history remains intact, preserved in the perfect patina that is the bike now known as "The Judge".
Thank you to all who participated in this video!

When I was 15 years old I worked in an Independant British Bike Repair Shop. British Bikes have some very odd British threads. My friend the owner of the shop had boxes and boxes of Bolts and Spare Parts. He closed the Motorcycle repair shop many years ago and went in to Manufacturing Nash Mole Traps. A Business that his Uncle owned for many years. I am thinking my friend might still have many boxes of British bike parts. He was a Pro Hillclimber he had a BSA that he ran on Methanol and Nitromethane. It was a hard Tail. He had just bought a Yamaha TT-500 that he was going to build into a Hillclimber with full Suspension .

@@RedRiderCanadaBC Ok My friend had the Brand new Yamaha TT-500 ..Yamaha .. He was riding it down the road wide open to do a spark Plug check. It started raining really hard. A Lady in a Cadilac pulled off to the side of the road. He thought she had pulled over because of the rain. With No Turn signal or warming she hung a U turn in front of him as he went to pass buy her. It broke his Leg in 7 Places. He laid in Traction in the Hospital for a month and he never built the Hillclimber. When he retired from the Mole Trap Business he went into Bird Watching and Bird Banding. He was a Bachelor for many years. Then he got married. His wife lives and breaths Birdwatching too. There was another guy who worked for Millwood Honda in Kalamazoo. He was their BMW mechanic. He also had a Nitro Burning Hill Climber. His was a Norton. I have another Friend who raced BSA Gold Stars in the early 1960's in Grad Rapids MI. He grew up in the City. Married a Rich gal they bought a Farm and went into farming big time. My Dad met him buy spreading lime and marl for him on his Farm. I worked for him the summer I was 16 years old. Worked a lot more hours on the Farm and made more money. Otherwise I would have worked in the Motorcycle shop another year. I had a 1974 Yamaha YZ-80-A I put a GYT kit in it and tripled the power. Took it down to my friend Farm.. I am like 14 years old. My Dad Trailered my bike down there. By then, this guy Phil Smith had a Ossa Phanton.. they are really fast two strokes. He built a Hair Scrambles Tack around the pond. A Guy named Dave Atherton brought his two little kids out they had a Honda QA-50 .. These Two little kids riding the Honda Mini Bikes grew up to be Harley Davidson Factory Flat Track Riders. Kevin and Brian Atherton. Their Dad Dave was a mechanic for Kenny Coolbeth a few years ago. The last year a Harley Davidson XR-750 won the AMA Pro National Championship . Dave Atherton was the mechanic. Dave Brother Ron just retried and closed his Motorcycle shop in White Pigeon about two years ago. He still answered the phone Atheron's Triumph. He was a Triumph Dealer back before Triumph went out of Business. Triumph is back now they even have a new Motocross bike this year. I will send you a link of Dave Atherton racing his Vintage Norton Flat Track Bike and I will send you a link to Kevin Atherton racing for the Harley Factory .

@@RedRiderCanadaBC Here is a 1 mile Race that Kevin Atherton lead a lot of laps in. On the 1 mile Tracks the bikes need to draft other bikes to be faster. It's like a chess match to be in the right position to win. If you are leading you Probably will get drafted and sling shot passed. In NASCAR they call it a sling shot pass anyway . Because 3 or 4 bikes running together can go faster than one bike can run alone they run in packs. It makes for very exciting racing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZK2lHyFocR8qdk

@@RedRiderCanadaBC There was a Red Flag in the race. Rodney Ferris died in that race. He clipped a haybale and went down and another bike hit him in the head. In the last couple of years since NASCAR started running AMA Pro Flat Track races they have put up more air fencing and require the riders to wear air suits ect. The announcer kept saying that they are running 130 to 140 MPH on the straights. Chris Carr and Scottie Parker are two of the all Time Greats. Steve Morehead and Ronnie Jones are still racing the Bultaco Astros on the short tracks. This race was at De Quoin Illionois Fair Grounds. These Tracks are over 100 years old. They were built for Horse Sulky racing. After the Era of Board Track racing the Tracks were high banked and the bikes ran over 100 MPH in the 1920.. Too many Riders and Spectators died. So they started racing cars and motorcycles on the Flat Track Horse Race Tracks at Fair Grounds all over the USA. This race was July 2nd 1995 ,, Joe Kopp was in the Race, his son is racing the 450 CC Single class now and doing well. The Flat Track Racers are a small tightly knit family. www.cyclenews.com/2020/08/article/archives-column-rodney-farris/ I think Shade Tree did an interview about the Lawyer / Judges Triumph. That button on the Amal Carburetor is called a tickler and it primes your engine.

Hey kid, I started out with a BSA Thunder Bolt 57 years ago, and I rode that until I bought a '73 FX. Those Brit bikes are so much fun to ride! I'm still riding, but now I have 3 v-twins and they are all Yamaha v-twins!! There is a lot to say about nostalgia. My two biggest bikes are an '02 RoadStar and an '02 V-Star 1100, both are examples of old school tech, but fun for every day that Oregon weather permits! Keep on keeping on! You're doing great work and I have turned into a faithful follower.

Yo Red, I have been patiently waiting in beautiful downtown Mid Michigan for this vid. I was not disappointed. Luckily I had access to right shift Triumphs when I was younger. They are totally Kool. Only took you a minute. You had it down. 👍👊👏 The history of this Motorsickle is amazing. Hanging with a Triumph builder Legend in FLA. I'm Jel. ✌️😘❤️😎🇺🇸

Saw this bike in one of Cheyleesi’s I think and it’s such a sick bike!! It suits you quite well and it’s obvious in your face how much you loved it! I wouldn’t be surprised if I see a future video titled something like “My new Triumph Bobber built by Weems” and I’m absolutely here for it! You can never have too many bikes, there is simply no such thing 💁‍♀️

Hahaha oh man it would be so cool to have an old Triumph built by Weems! And the only limit on how many bikes a parson can own is their garage space lol.

Every bike is different. I cannot do this on my shovel cause I can’t get enough momentum. Plus my leg hits the shock on the way down if I sit on my shovel to kick it.

Very cool. I love the old stuff. Was the Judge easier to kick than your shovelhead? My daily rider is a 1964 Triumph TR6. If you have them tuned and maintained correctly, they're pretty reliable old bikes.

It wasn’t harder to kick than my shovel lol. I just was expecting it to be easier than it was so wasn’t really throwing my weight into it enough.

I've been following Weems for a few years. I love Triumph's period. Course I love Harley and Indian too lol! I'm glad you got to meet Weems and ride Da Judge. How awesome was that!? I know I have never ridden a motorcycle that is as old as that one is. Don't know that I ever will either. Weems knows those old Triumphs. When I watch his vids I miss my Bonneville. Maybe one day I might get another one. Loved watching this great video! Hope you're getting to ride some, and stay safe in your beautiful B.C.!
