Me too! Our parents were all about using up odds and ends, and not wasting food. That amounted to one pot meals.

YT4Me57 You made me laugh with a conjured up a childhood memory about food. My parents were pretty progressive and I was exposed to a lot of things including food. I will never forget my first exposure to Brussels Sprout. I was 5 or 6, took a bite and spat it onto the plate. My mom was a bit upset and told me about all the starving children in China would love to have that on their plate. I was dead serious when I looked at her and said "can we mail it to them". That was the first and last time I was involved with Brussels Sprout :D Toward the end of the depression and during WWII my mom's family, 2 adults and 4 kids, had a huge Victory Garden and raised chickens all in the city of Chicago. What they didn't *need* was given to the neighbors who did need it. Grandmother canned anything that didn't move and what they didn't *need* was given to the neighbors. Pay it forward.

Oh my! I got that same "Starving children in China" line (and later, children were starving in Biafra. I was ready to pack up my brussel sprouts and liver and send it to them too! LOL Thanks for bringing up THAT memory. My family on both sides came from the South, so growing things was how they got along as well. Even in here in NYC, my dad's side of the family managed. My mom's family was upstate, and had backyards, so land was more accessible for growing vegetables. I have some ration books from the WWII era that my mom saved. Fascinating piece of history! We are very wasteful in this day and time, and need to learn how to be more frugal, less wasteful, and kinder to the environment.

Looks good but I cannot cook pasta that way. The starch needs somewhere to go. When you boil it it goes into the water but that way the starch is in the dish which makes it pasty. I do think it is a good recipe because so many people won't be bothered by that. I eat pasta so much that I am picky. But many people will love it

Joann Mcmahon idk then man, when i use cheap pasta, the water does get starchy and all white and the pasta gets mushy even before it is al dente. but those two brands don't give me mushy water. ever. it is almost clear. maybe you're overcooking it?
@tb4954
@tb4954 9 жыл бұрын
+Joann Mcmahon I was kinda thinking that as well. It might be good if eaten immediately....but as leftovers, it would turn into a soggy stuck together mass of noodles with a pasty consistency....not good eats. =P Leftovers are supposed to be just as good or better! Not worse! lol I might try it this way and see how it goes, though....
