As a father, I wholeheartedly agree that missing a child's birthday party (especially a daughter's birthday party) is more than enough to warrant the Emperor's death. In fact, he might have went a little too easy on the bastard!

I think the head would be gone just from the momentum of the round. .50 caliber rounds are pretty nasty and the explosive charge wouldn't leave much of what was left after the round hit. Otherwise, the story is fine.

Aliens... who knows what their muscle density, bone density, and other physical characteristics are like. But yea with the shapped charge, you'd expect the head to be pretty non existent.

Hubris befalls anyone who agrees to single combat.
@mikeschnobrich180711 ай бұрын
In WW1, it would have been extremely unlikely for a single battle on the Western Front to lose the war. However, a single naval battle could lose the war in a day. In a sense, naval battles are a type of single combat. The American Empire is a naval/airpower that can defall to hubris easier than we think.

I thought it would be a 20 mm. Anyway, shaped charges are not molten, but a yielding solid. They detonate before hitting the target, or on contact, because full impact will disrupt them. Their damage mechanism is an extending jet of solid metal (copper, or molybdenum if you are being fancy) , the tip of which travels at as much as 8 km/s. They also have to be traveling relatively slowly to function, and any spin has to be compensated at the cost of effectiveness. You would not make a fifty caliber one. Instead, you would likely have a smooth bore fin stabilized sabot round with a DU penetrator and maybe an explosive load (probably overkill). You might also go for a guided round.

So a species has intergalactic travel, but it has no understanding of ballistics, ranged weapon combat, etc etc. You have to suspend disbelief on such a grand level in order to find this a little entertaining.
@jaynecobb6711 Жыл бұрын
Maybe the weapon to them is so primitive that it would be like a modern equipped soldier going up aginst a person with steel ball bearings and a high powered hunting slingshot. You would be amazed at what kind of damage a high power slingshot and steel ball bearings can do in the hands of a expert. You can kill a man, no problem, with a high powersling shot and the right circumstances.

@@mikeschnobrich1807 Hey hey hey. If you're gonna bring us into this, at least be historically accurate. We didn't "lose". We just chose not to "win". There is a difference.
