Coffee beans are one of the most, if not THE most heavily pesticide sprayed crops, so I drink only organic dark roast daily. A few years ago I reduced caffeine by half because it wires me but I love the taste and want two 14 oz. cups. I am not brand loyal but prefer local organic coffee. I encourage people to drink organic to reduce overall toxic burden and support small farmers.❤

I once read a study done with data from the Women's Health Study II (I'm a participant) that showed that coffee drinkers don't commit suicide as often as non-coffee drinkers. I did a deep dive for organic coffee beans that are tested for mold & mycotoxins, also fair traded, and high polyphenols for health. Also, the coffee had to taste full-bodied, not like hot water! Many are expensive with NO testing results available. I found what I think is the best! It’s ‘Cardiology’ coffee. Made specifically for a group of cardiologists in Scottsdale AZ because they see many heart health benefits from good quality coffee consumption. The dark roast is amazing! Delicious! They also have a medium roast. I think they have it ground already, too. It’s available on Amazon or can be ordered directly from their website. I know many pay a lot for Purity coffee. I tried it and found it had no taste, just my opinion.

I love coffee! However, I cut back from 40gr/day to 20 when I researched it about 3 yrs ago. At that time I was dx'd with Osteoporosis (T score -3.4). I've improved my T score to -1.2 as of last Dec. I only drink organic coffee beans to avoid pesticide residues. Coffee is the most heavily pesticide laden crop in the world. I grind them by hand with a manual burr grinder just before brewing. I use a pour over with a non-bleached paper filter to reduce cafestol. I add vanilla whey protein and glycine for bone health and flavoring. My favorite beans are med-dark roasted organic beans from South America. BTW, I admit to a serious case of confirmation bias when it comes to evaluating the health benefits/risks of coffee consumption. ;)
I drink 2 cups of coffee made with half caffeine and half decaf. Topped with coconut creamer. Taste matters. Thank you!

Many sodas have caffeine, surprised they weren't mentioned. Did subjects in the studies include consumption of caffeinated soft drinks, energy drinks, even bottled waters, widely used? I drink a 16oz mug of coffee in the morning that's it, very rarely will have coffee or any caffeine at night. The best coffee I've ever had is IKEA's "PATAR" coffee, expensive and a bit hard to find except in their stores (over an hour away from my area). I would spend the money if it were local. My usual coffee is Folgers "Black Silk". 7-11 ground coffe not too bad either and affordable. Some stores sell bags of their ground coffee.

Very true. I experienced morning legs cramps every single day for almost a year without knowing what the heck happened with my old body. I am 71, very active athletic woman with no health issues. I blamed on my aging. It's very annoying that I had to jump off my bed every early morning to stop my leg cramps while still in the sleeping stage. Then i doubted my caffeine consumption that i normally had at least 6 to 7 cups daily, hot and cold, matcha tea and coffee (i used decaf coffee to prevent sleep loss). I use only organic products and bought the best brands possible on the market. Organic Domatcha ceremonial grade and Mount Hagen organic decaf instant coffee as they are co2 processing. First I stopped matcha and used only decaf coffee. The morning cramps still happened. I stopped both, matcha and coffee altogether. Only after one day, no cramps in the morning. I feel amazing although a bit lazy and low energy as the result of withdrawal effects. After a week with no cramps i took 2 glasses of ice decaf coffee yesterday. Woke up with legs cramps again!!!! But i still took a hot matcha cup this morning, i guess i crave for it. They are really addictive, specially after 20+ years daily habit. It was ok until last year to experience cramping and twitching legs muscles. Will see how it feels tomorrow morning when i wake up after a cup of matcha this morning. I also wanted to make a remark, decaf coffee still interrupt your sleep. It still has a little amount of caffeine that affects older people.

I tend to drink decaf most of the time when at home. If I go out, I seldom get decaf because it tastes awful at most restaurants. There are a couple of exceptions here in Milwaukee where I live. Typically, these serve coffees I also make at home, which are locally roasted. My preferences are decafs from Collectivo, Valentine and Stone Creek Coffee. There are a few other roasters in Milwaukee but I haven’t tried them. Usually, I get beans and grind them myself before making a pot. I also have a Keurig for making single cups if I won’t be around to drink more than 1 cup. For K-cups I use several brands , mostly purchased online because finding a strong, dark roast decaf in the local supermarket is practically impossible. Basically, I drink coffee for the flavor, not the caffeine. I get that in energy drinks (sugar free of course) so I don’t need it in my coffee.

What about JUST caffeine (as in caffeine tablets) without coffee or tea? Coffee upsets my stomach (possibly due to all the crap I put in it to make it palatable) and I’m not fond of the taste of caffeinated teas. I do have osteoporosis so would love to know if I’m shooting myself in the foot taking 100-200 mg (half to a full tablet) of caffeine a day (to help wake up and focus my mind before getting out of bed in the morning). Any research available?

Gave up caffeine when I noticed it gives me PVCs, on high caffeine days I was having as many as 1 pvc every 3rd heartbeat. That changed my mind. Still love my decaf coffee and tea. I sleep better, and talk slower.😂

I'm afraid to listen to this video! Lol, but to answer Dr Doug's opening question - I used to use medium roast Columbian or any South American ground coffee, but after learning about Mycotoxins, I switched to "Bulletproof" original roast.

300mg?! That's not even a teeny--tiny cup of coffee. That doesn't sound right to me. Is this 300mg of caffeine or coffee? I drink 1 scoop of ground coffee which equals 8grams. If what I've read is correct this means I'm consuming 64mg of caffeine per day. But we don't know that because the calculations of caffeine from coffee beans is hard to measure! :)

Hi! Thank you for sharing this, yes that is definitely hard to measure!

What about caffeine in energy drinks? or directly in pills? Those won't typically have the other compounds present in tea or coffee. I carry caffeine tablets as part of my first aid kit for hiking, along with calcium and electrolytes (and ibuprofen, and bismuth subsalicylate, and and and...).
