Hey everyone! I hope you find this video helpful. I tried to cram an awful lot of info into one video - hence the length of it. If you have any questions at all, please ask below and I would be happy to help! We absolutely love cloth diapering - it is super easy and super simple. I was honestly nervous when we hit that purchase button on the Cotton Babies website, but after just a couple of days of getting used to our new routine, I realized how much more convenient cloth diapering was rather than using disposables . . . seriously! No more running to the store when we run out of diapers ;0)
Next week's video will be "A Day in the Life of a Full-Time Working Mommy!"
Be sure to give this video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it, and don't forget to subscribe!

I know this probably sounds silly but I love that you live in an apartment. My partner and I will be cloth-diapering and we live in an apartment. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to set-up a diaper-sprayer in the bathroom but that system looks fairly simple to set-up, definitely not what I was initially visioning. Yay for Cloth Bums! :)

I've used the freetime for my son whos now 2 and will soon be using them for twins. This is the first video I seen on them, which surprizes me because from what i seem to be the best design, totally worth the money. If we had to stuff the liners and if they took longer to dry I dont think my husband would have bin on board to use them. After 2 years the diaper still look brand new. I 10 kushes that I used for the first 6 months but only continued only with 18 freetimes; i bought them on sail and calculated that they where pad of at 10mon including using bum genius detergant and factoring in some for running the washer. I've always used the bumgenius detergant with a HE front loader using a heavy duty settings using hot water and adding a prerinse and a rinse after rise and have never had a problem with them cleaning. I add bleach in from time to time I read once a moth was recommended but i dont think it is necessary to do before solids and not as often with solids. We only us cream if we see a bit of red but do not use it much at all, so i rarely need to add dawn to the prerinse.

We use disposable daipers when leaving for the day amd buy wipes in bulk. You can get 20 packs of 64 wipes for $20. In 4 months we have used a total of 10 packs. And we have 42 cloth daipers and a ton of inserts for $200 from a site that my fiances parents bought them from. Its pretty awesome. And so easy. Wash every other day in their own load.

Great video! Very descriptive and concise information. I used cloth with my youngest, who is now 8 for a very short period of time, toward the end of his diapering years, so I don't remember anything! I'm pregnant again, and have watched a few different videos to try to refresh my memory, but yours is by far the best , and I learned a lot of things I didn't know before. Also, Maddy is so adorable! Omg, yes! I cloth diapered my daughter for 2 years and we never once had a poop blow out. I spent $800-$900 on my daughters cloth diaper stash. My daughter was allergic to most disposable diapers and the ones she could use were expensive. With an average amount of changes we would have spent around $1,600 to diaper her. My daughter had about 45-50 diapers when she hit 2. I sold everything off but our favorite (24 diapers). I was able to buy 25 newborn diapers and 6 more of our favorite One Size for baby #2. In total for this baby we spent about $200. So I should be saving money early off this time. I think our water bill goes up $10-$15 depending how much we are washing. That’s not even what half disposable diapers would cost us a month so we are still saving. Plus I never run out of diapers!

I love watching cloth diaper stash videos and this was one of the most entertaining. :) We committed to a stash as well and bought mostly Kawaii pockets. We also bought a few others to try out (Nicki's, Imagine, and Fuzzibunz). We only like our Kawaiis. Go figure. I've been thinking about trying a Bum Genius 4.0 but I fear that it'll end up relegated to my "do not like" pile. Ha!

We started with all freetimes too. I think I just have 10 that I bought pre birth. I love them! We've saved money but just recently (5 months in) I've branched out and bought different ones so I'm not washing all the time. Such a dangerous rabbit hole! I do plan on using them with all my babies and selling ones I don't like. My only issue is the freetimes get lint stuck in between the layers of the inserts! Gahhh! @1NancyRod
@1NancyRod 8 жыл бұрын
It's very possible to use cold water on cloth diapers and get them clean. The only reason you would need to use warm or hot water is if you use a plant based detergent. Any other type of detergent is just fine with cold water. Make sure you're not using too much water for the load size and using plenty of detergent. Don't skimp on the detergent as you're cleaning human waste.

Just wondering what your thoughts would be on living in an apartment that doesn't have its own washer/dryer- it's downstairs ($1.50/wash + $1/dry- but we are in California so can probably dry out in the sun!). I think that is the main thing putting me off- we both work, and I don't want to spend hours a week babysitting the washer, but love the idea of cloth diapering & do believe in its benefits..

I would rinse them with a sprayer immediately after changing them to prevent the pre rinse and wash with a non toxic detergent (seventh generation or something similar that is hypoallergenic) so you don't need to rinse them before or after washing. Then hang them to dry! :)

So what did mothers do about the poop for generations and generations before Pampers were invented in 1970s?! I used a large flannel diaper square that you FOLDED and used a diaper pin on each side. sold by the dozen they were $10 a pack. Folding and pinning a diaper was part of every new mommy's prenatal education besides how to burp and bathe a newborn. sometimes I used a prefolded diaper that tucked into a waterproof cover. My children are now well adjusted adults with adorable children of their own. No one was traumatized about poop.

+sylvia oleksy I find that it really takes no time at all, but for some this may seem like a big time commitment. Just depends - everyone is different ;0)

I cloth diaper but I find the bum genius not as absorbent as my mama koalas or my Alva ones

It would have cost less to buy newborn cloth then it cost you to buy disposables

It's not recommended to use homemade, they don't clean as well and cause buildup, causing rashes and leaks.

DIY stuff isn't detergent at all and only a bunch of water softeners, stain removers and grated soap (that will build up like soap scum). This will cause stink and ammonia burns in your baby.

I soak my diapers in my dry mix or a solution of half detergent, half water and vinegar mix. I would never use Tide or any non natural based, child detergent for a baby especially. I like Ecos but switched to simple truth because the ingredients were better. My dry mix is 2 cups sodium carbonate ( natural washing soda) to 1 cup sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), 1-2 tbsp Epsom salt, 1 tbsp Himalayan sea salt, and a few drops of tea tree oil. My liners are clean, smell good and most still look like new.

I’m pregnant and going to cloth diaper our baby boy who will be here in 6 weeks. People keep saying “haha yeah ok, you don’t realize how gross baby poop is then” which i think is super disrespectful.
