I spoke with a Ford employee after this video and they said that the standard pack should hit 150kW on a DCFC. The extended pack hit 173kW delivered. Also, the largest problem with the Pro trim for a normal consumer is that they aren’t making enough of them for personal use! Most are being built for fleets.

Thanks for the update! Good to know about charging. Only complaint was it felt like half the video was talking about how great a deal it was and that you should buy it ... but you really can't :( Tried to buy a Pro, sold out in Wave #1 which had ~1500 invites. Settled for standard XLT. Still a good deal and cheaper than comparable ICE XLT (~10K cheaper when including Fed Tax Credit).

I don't believe they'll continue selling this truck for $40k, if they continue selling to retail customers at all. It's an absurd value compared to any other truck on the market, let alone EV (and they still have the fed credit!). I think they are making less than 1,000 for retail customers in 2022. I could see it at $48k, but $40k is just insane in the context of the EV market. I wanted to get a Pro but ended up with a Lariat because the Pros sold out in ordering wave one (of six).

This sounds like a great buy if you can get your hands on one for that price, but since it’s such a good value, there’s no way you’ll be able to easily get one. The Pro is probably just to lure people in so Ford can upsell you with a model you can actually buy. This is a classic business move to make it look like there’s no competition.

I've got a 2004 F-150 with 290,000 miles. Best vehicle I've ever owned. My only complaint about the Lightning is that it doesn't have a 3-seat front bench. The shifter is pure cosmetics, it doesn't even need to exist in that form. Should be a column shifter or dash mount. It's not like there's any real physical linkage to the transmission, it's a such a waste of space.

Problem is this truck won’t do what your 2004 did - last 18 years. These battery packs are going to the trash after 10 years. Fords battery warranty allows for 30% battery degradation over 8 years. 150kwh battery will be a 105kwh battery and that’s the best case scenario. This wouldn’t bother me if a new battery was 5 grand or so but they are so expensive these trucks are all going to be scrapped once the battery craps out.

Regarding the comments on towing: I have a 4200 lb boat for fishing. I use it 1-2 times a month. So, most of my driving is not towing. But, when I tow, I'm driving 120-150 miles round-trip with that boat. Without increasing the installed base of charging stations that can accept a vehicle towing a trailer, recharging the truck on those trips isn't practical. So, to make sure I don't fully discharge the battery, I would need a 200-mile range while towing 5000 lbs for it to be practical. Respectfully, the "most driving doesn't involve towing" comment misses a bit of the mark for what people like me really need in our tow vehicle. Otherwise, I think this video is a very good representation of the vehicle and it makes me more optimistic that there will be an all-electric vehicle that works for me. Thanks.

Thanks for confirming my observation of the value of this truck after your Lariat review yesterday. Adding the step, spray in liner, cameras, upgraded power and you have the truck I spec’d for $46,639. All I would need. Would like the moon roof, but not $80K worth.
@Ritalie
@Ritalie 2 жыл бұрын
A moon roof is really a terrible long term investment, because it can leak water, the seal can get damaged, UV light is really, really bad for Human skin, and there is no benefit to a moon roof, other than the manufacturer gets to make more money off of it. For long term ownership, the less unnecessary frills you have, the better the truck will last 30 years from now. Batteries can be upgraded in the future, and the truck will never be obsolete. It's important that the truck doesn't have any gimmicks that will break or fail over time.

I agree with what you said about the price. I have no idea how they’re making money on this at all. It’s cheaper than a base model 3, EV6, Ioniq5, Kia Niro, etc. _and_ has more horsepower, better acceleration, a larger battery pack more cargo space and is an entire damn full sized pickup truck. They have to be losing like $10,000 minimum on each one of these. If you can get one of these base model, or especially the base+extended range model somehow, they’ll sell like crazy on the used market. If they were actually selling the extended battery on the base model and not just in fleet sales, I’d say it’s hands down the best deal on the market right now. The value proposition is outrageous and people should snatch these up ASAP before Ford updates their pricing to break even at the very least

Ever stop to consider that an all electric vehicle is naturally CHEAPER than one with an ICE, transmission, gas tank, filters, intake, emissions controls, linkages, feedback system, oil system, giant cooling system, drive shafts, etc...hopefully you get the point. ALL that crap balanced against a MOTOR with one moving part, no transmission, no drive axles, and no array of ancillary equipment just to support that overly complex, Rube Goldberg piston engine. Ford used the same panels as on all their other trucks...that keeps it cheap. All the whiz-bang electronic doodads such e-screens and fancy lighting costs mere PENNIES to include for a $10K markup. The ONLY thing that used to be expensive is the battery and the cost of those has come down markedly in just the last few years and will continue to drop as next-gen tech becomes incorporated. So I am not at all surprised that Ford can sell an electric F150 for $10,000 MORE than their ICE engine version and everyone ooos and ahhhs over how inexpensive it is and how much you're getting for the money....just fully conditioned consumers!

Oh, and UNLIKE ICE engines where eeking out more horsepower means more expense, electric motors making 400 hp combined and oodles of torque is easy....the BATTERY is where the power comes from - being able to discharge enough "power" fast enough. @@randallscott-key802 I see what you mean but simpler doesn't always mean cheaper. Those "simple" batteries have a lot of rare earth materials in them like cobalt that are only found in certain countries which makes procurement of these more difficult than typical components like aluminum and steel and thus, more expensive. When the primary key is lost, the only solution is to erase the keys and reprogram it and add at least one additional key.

Good video. You were asking where is the difference in about $40k...well you got cloth seats, no power or heated/cooled seats, more hard plastics, no sliding rear glass or defroster, no panoramic roof, no blue cruise, no power tailgate or dampen, no large info screen, no carpet, no bedliner, no tailgate step and no front or rear light bar just to name a few. Also this shares alot of parts with their ICE truck so they got economy of scale to offer at lower cost ..the cab for example in low to high trim is exactly the same with all interior options.

You also have no ENGINE, transmission, drive train, gas tank, oil system, large coolant system, complex intake, and fuel injection system with computer controlled feedback! ALL that crap is replaced by a single motor per axle with ONE rotating part and a reduction gear! Electric motors are as old as ICE engines and dirt cheap for all "other" applications, so why would they cost any more for cars? They don't, you just THINK they should.... The basic F150 starts around $30K with all the ICE components...so by removing ALL THAT and replacing it with far cheaper electric drive components that present to you a $40K e-truck that is the SAME truck as the ICE version other than drive system. Batteries have gotten MUCH less expensive in the last few years....Ford isn't loosing money on a $30K truck with a $10K added premium, optioned up to $45K+ and on up to $55K with all the doodads.

If I could get Pro Extended as a normal consumer, I'd get that. Since I can't, and since the XLT requires the 312A equipment group (for $9500) before you can even select the Extended battery ($10k,) that puts it so close to the Lariat in price, I'm just going to go for the Lariat. (Adding tow tech + max tow, the two configurations I'd buy are only $4k apart in price, and the Lariat is so much nicer for only $4k more.) A fleet can get an Extended for $52k. Ford has two long range EVs in mass production in the CUV & Truck space. Good for them if they get it right. I'd rather this was "idling" in my neighborhood than a 15-25 mpg hunk of fossil juice drinking engine. Since the Expedition is based on the F150, I CANNOT WAIT to see these in a full size SUV format. I will say that the XLT package is expensive (about $13K over the Pro) when all you really get is cloth power seats, carpets, running boards, 360° camera, and exterior lighting.

My experience with a Ford Fusion Energi, is that Ford does not publish their battery warranty and does not stand behind their product. I owned a Ford Fusion Hybrid from 2010 to 2016 put 100,000 miles on it and never had a problem. I bought a used Fusion Energi with about a year and 22K miles left on the 3/36. In 2018 with ~40k miles on it, the mileage on battery went from ~19 miles to ~12 miles, a 37% reduction in mileage. All maintenance had been done on time by Ford. I took it to the dealer and they gave me a loaner and tried to diagnose the problem. After 3-4 days of diagnosis, the dealer called and said Ford claimed the 37% loss of battery range was within warranty specifications. I tried everything I could to get the warranty details so I could see what an acceptable of range loss is. No one could produce the documentation. I tired of the run around and traded in the car for a Honda Clarity PHEV, which I still drive 4 years later getting the same battery range as when new (~.48 miles per charge). I would highly recommend to anyone considering purchasing an electric vehicle from Ford to get the detail on the battery warranty. You need to understand what loss of range will trigger a battery repair/replacement. To me a loss of 37% in four years and ~40,000 miles when the warranty is for 7 years and 100,000 miles is a manufacturing defect and should be covered under warranty.

Because of the distance between superchargers in 2019 (longest was 204 miles. had to drive 55 for 1/3 the trip. arrived with 4%) I had to charge to 90% or 100% several times, but for the most part 80% or lower. @@davedavenport8673 Big screen is good. we know Ford have fix for everything and covered no question. but you need to remember that almost everything is controlled from it as its cover many functionality. mean if its fail (screen burned, not responding or broken..etc) you will be locked out from AC for example. unlike the small screen thing where its has limited control and you have the AC and radio switches separately. it will be hard but to drop the car on the dealer. I hope the big screen will handle the load. i really love the new Ford Lightning 🙂

@@shadad07 Like I asked, have you had a screen in a car burn out or break? I haven't. I have rebooted my Model Y computer while driving, but everything still works and when it comes back on it is fine.

@@davedavenport8673 you did not ask that if i had any screen burned incident before! you asked whats wrong with screen getting fail. and how on the world a rebooting can fix a burned screen? this is a hardware fail not a software glitch😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Thanks, getting a pro. You talked about what was missing for the price....Driver Assist Features! No Adaptive cruise mostly but other things also, which is disappointing.
