Overwatch 2 - PC Gyro Motion Controls and Flick Stick Guide (And Why You Should Use It)

CORRECTIONS: A bug was found! Some characters (like Hanzo) wouldn't display the game UI correctly, making it impossible to see when an ability was ready to use.
Here's the fix:
In-game, go to settings, controller, advanced, and toggle on "force keyboard and mouse interface", now follow the import method shown in the video to import my new OV2 config, called "Force KBM Flick Stick by FSV (gyro to mouse beta)". This new mode, you will need to use gyro to navigate menus or change to the Menu action set.
You can achieve mouse-like precision on Overwatch 2 using a Steam Deck or any gyro-compatible controller.

Q: Can gyro be used on consoles?
A: Yes, but it's only available on a limited list of games. If you want it for your favorite game, ask the developers about it.
Q: Can I use your configs on non-steam games?
A: Yes! Just change the name of the non-steam game to the steam ID of that game (that you can easily find on SteamDB), and you'll have access to all community configs. If the steam overlay doesn't work, try using a program called GLOSSI.
Q: Can gyro emulate the right analog stick?
A: It can, but it's not ideal. My configurations all emulate a mouse, unless stated otherwise.
Q: What is the name of the 3D Controller Overlay?

Thanks for making a community layout for the controller. I was recently at a Razer booth while I was at Evo and when i saw their wolverine controller for the ps5 which was an "esports ready" controller, I asked if they had motion sensors in it and they said "No, what purpose would that serve?" and I showed them one of your videos about using Steam Input to set up gyro and showing you can keep up with mouse aimers without aim assist in shooters. As for whether or not I was actually able to make a big difference to them is unsure. But I do hope they will do it. Now it will be easier to show them if I can bring a small set up with me.

Everything about this works amazing, the only problem is that i cant seem to be able to do a melee attack? Because right stick is set to readjusting motion grip? Any way I can go about solving this?

R3 was supposed to do both actions. Disable gyro if you hold and punch if you click. There is a bug on Steam that randomly removes this kind of configuration, if that's the case, just go to steam's controller configuration, on the joystick tab check if R3 has a regular press to RS and a long press to "hold action layer: gyro off". If not, you just need to add what is missing.

Dude, you seem like a wizard with this stuff. I have a 8Bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth, which is essentially a switch pro controller and i have been trying to get it to work with Team Fortress 2. I cannot get it to work through steam, whenever i get the gyro aiming working i cannot walk using left stick and vice versa. Any chance you could make a video on how to get it working there if you got some time?

That's a possibility. It's just that the game that I play the most with gyro is Splatoon and I don't have a way to capture gameplay from the switch and I'm not as good on pc games, so I need to invest time, learn the game, get good enough to be impressive or entertaining to watch and then record gameplay. I made a video about Neon White, I play a lot with flick stick there. It isn't an online multiplayer game, but still is the most fun I ever had with flick stick. If you want, I only follow channels that make gyro and flickstick content, so you can check them out too!

Unfortunately no. Steam can differentiate between full press and soft press, you can bind different things to each. But no adaptive triggers, unfortunately.

Hold to disable gyro, click to Punch. If you are trying to use the new gyro to mouse config, the new Steam update binded "trackpad touch" to "activate gyro", so you need to disable that.

If you never used a controller on steam before, you need to enable the drivers first by going to steam > preferences > controller and enabling playstation or nintendo controllers. I recommend enabling everything, just in case to make sure that any controller will be compatible in any circumstances.

Trying to set it up now and for most part working, but notice my "button layout" in game flickering between showing Xbox buttons and keyboard buttons :') Any way to fix it? Even makes the text chat box in game flicker like mad crazy and making me insane and super distracting to try and play in game haha

Unfortunately no, there is no way to disable that. That happens because we are sending gamepad and mouse inputs at the same time, I didn't know it would also affect the chat ;-; The only way to fix this is to make a configuration that completely emulates keyboard and mouse. But that is super time consuming.

Go into the in-game controller options, there is a setting 'Force keyboard/mouse user interface'. Turn this to on, and the glyphs will be forced to be keyboard buttons and the flickering will stop. Controller input is still accepted, for the most part - one drawback is it's impossible to use the right joystick to activate the comms wheel now. With that setting off, if you play heroes like Hanzo, they made it so that Abilities 1 and 2 are swapped if the game detects you're on controller (for some reason?), so you can never see what your cooldown is because any time it detects mouse/controller input, it flips. With 'force keyboard/mouse user interface' set to on, no problem. Actually, if anybody knows how to make the comms wheel work with 'force keyboard/mouse user interface' set to on, things would be flawless. Essentially it only works with the mouse rather than an xinput right joystick. I thought about having an action set layer activate when holding d-pad down, that makes the right joystick a mouse region, but the camera snaps all the way to the ceiling when using it. Not sure if there's any other way?

@Furygun81 using "for e kbm user interface" disables gamepad inputs, making my config kinda useless because you will need to manually bind every button on the controller to a keyboard key. To fix the swapping buttons, just go in the game settings and manually swap the bindings for the characters that are presenting problems.

@@FlickStickVids It doesn't disable gamepad inputs at all, they work just fine for me in-game (not the main menu for some reason). It's just the PC HUD it forces (and also disables the right joystick for comms wheel). Swapping the bindings also doesn't fix the issue - it's actually the position of the abilities on the HUD that changes rather than the button you need to press.

@Furygun81 oh, I see. They must have changed this in some recent update, because at the time I made this video, forcing kbm would disable gamepad inputs. That or I'm mistaken with another similar option. Anyway, I'm downloading the game again to see if I can fix this issue.

Gyro is very useful but official don't even try to dev on non-Nintendo Switch plarforms, everyone need it with game performance. I expect this gonna let me try again with Overwatch 2 with acceptable Gyro mod.

A PS4 controller will do just fine! I personally don't recommend any third party controller because of ease of use and compatibility. There are many good third party controllers, it's just that I never had a good experience with the ones I have.

Six axis is one kind of motion sensor. Like the ps3 controller, but it doesn't necessarily mean it has gyro. Most controllers released after 2013 have gyro (except Xbox controllers).

I actually loved the flickstick! its so nice to be able to do insta 180 likes this with a controller, things that normally would be exclusive to m&k. The only problem for me is that I mostly play on ps5 now and there's no gyro support there, so I have to keep the old style until one day when they maybe finally decide to add gyro to the game officially@@FlickStickVids

Btw my steam download finished here and I tested your gyro settings and it was a lot of fun! A totally differente way to play, I liked a lot. Its a bit hard to get used at first but after some time I feel like i was getting the hang of it. If it wasn't for the lack of gyro on console, I would definitely focus on become good at gyro, but for now I will have to forget it, because if a play both styles it will problably mess up my muscle memory and I would just be worse at both 😂. @@FlickStickVids

I haven't made a config for Apex Legends yet. Unlike Overwatch, Apex doesn't have mixed inputs, so the only way is to fully emulate a keyboard and mouse, which makes using menus really hard. So once I figure that out, I will make another video about Apex.
