I learnt going from gold to platinum, to now close to diamond, that the communication (even if the team don't comm back) is key. It allows you to trust that your DPS will push up with you if they know where you're going. Rein relies on aggression to add value and maintain space for the team to work with, and you just need to be the presence that pushes their team back whilst others take advantage of their retreat and constant repositioning.

shield management for reinhardt is really crucial, a lot of lower elo reins either waste shield on useless spam or waste shield because they sit there holding shield too long and not moving in. they also tap shield a lot without giving it time to recharge

5:44 Yeah, that's one of those things that more people would come to think of more naturally if they thought of main tanks as their (MMO)RPG analogues. The main tank's primary purpose is to create space and draw fire away from the rest of the team. For comparison: In WoW you would use things like Taunt and Mocking Blow; in Overwatch, you do it by getting in people's faces. You do it by making them realize that the moment they take their eyes off you and go for the rest of your team, you're going to kill them. You need to be the, by far, bravest and most heroic character on your team.

Big thing is, when you're trying to boost a friend out of gold, and it brings the game to a sort of twilight zone where the rest of the team fades into one and you (being the higher level player) and your friend (being the only person who communicates) are the only ones that seem to be trying to make any sort of impact while one or two of your other players feel as though they are throwing the match

1) because you are playing main tank and you can not afford to be a bitch in those situations. Arguably the space was already lost when the Rein failed to push up early enough and basically gave the enemy team the entire choke and highground for free, but he should still have pushed. Shield hop forward if you must, but you have to trust your team. If they aren't following you, then manage them in the voice comms, tell them where you need the team to push. A team can't have a main tank that is afraid of taking responsibility of the front line. You see how the Reaper and the Roadhog are constantly pushing forward to fight for the space you have or retake it. That should be the job of the Reinhardt to lead the team, but they can't afford to wait for a passive main tank who just wants to sit and chill on the point and basically give the enemy every advantage for free. 2) He should smash him because at that point when he was in the litteral face of the mccree, he was still at half hp as you say, and the mccree had no flash left or bullets. That means either he has to roll or wait for his gun to reload before he can attack again. In either case, the Rein can get at least one swing off - and if the mccree rolls it gives time to back off, and if he doesn't roll you just keep swinging. You're a massive Rein with still around 300hp left and a hammer that kills squishies in 3 hits. That mccree just wasted his flash and all his ammo, you literally can't get a better advantage than that. Again, trust your team. Thinking "no heals in sight" is the mindset of a gold who doesn't trust their team. If you are so afraid of dying, then play something else. You can't play main tank and be afraid of dying, because then you just become dead weight, like this Rein was the entire game. He was literally hard carried through those rounds. You HAVE to make the enemy fight for every form of space they want to claim. Make them waste as many resources as possible before they can even contest the point or your allies. Never give away anything for free. And staying on the point or backing off from enemies that have no advantage over you, is the same as throwing the fight.

Reinahart is litteraly a liability in that situation. What the reinhart should have done with his reaper is hold the corner they just got control over and force the sigma to push into them which is way better play than running into an enemy team with a zero hp shield against a character that on a moment notice can block your main source of healing.

@@Real_MisterSir also the reinhart was doing the right thing. It was the reaper who pushed past that space and the reinhart should have trusted the reaper to know that's a stupid play and wraith out. Reinhart had lost most of his shielding claiming he just took so the smart play is keep that space and let your shield recharge in the meantime. If reinhart tried to attack the enemy he would be dead before he could even get to cover and the enemy could just safely walk backwards and kill him. Never mind at that point hook was coming back off cooldown and rein had a little shield hp. Playing tank isn't about mindlessly pushing forward. Its about making smart plays not just running in to certain death.

You just can't trust the healers to heal, the dps to hit and the tanks to create space. If you play Rein you are glad if two or three of your teammates are BEHIND your shield. It's 6 1v1 and maby a team fight once in a while.

The biggest problem with Moiras at your skill level is they just hold right click all game and throw damage orbs. To climb all you have to do is 1. Stay alive 2. use only healing orbs during fights 3. only right click if your healing is empty/your whole team is at full hp/ you really need to focus a genji diving your backline 4. use your ult in every fight. Easy wins Just focus on getting value. Even with terrible positioning you should win cause you have fade which will keep you alive in almost any situation.

Thats not a trick thats just you picking up game sense xD you have to peel as a tank and once you start peeling you will start to position better (else you die or feed..) and once you start understanding that you will start reading the other team more as you can predict whats about to happen and then you can bait ults and counter. Takes time to learn that on tanks but the more you play the more aware you become you will notice how players act differently when there about to do something.

Actually what I've seen from a lot of reinharts lately is that will push super far foward past a sigma barrier and won't realize that their healers can't even heal them and to push up would make them easy kills. Also a lot of tanks pushed super hard even if simply holding the ground they have is already a win. For example in this video, the team had already claim the ground they wanted and forced the sigma and roadhog to back off. Now reinharts barrier was only 300 hp, roadhog's hook was coming off cooldown, and sty told reinhart to push foward. What happens here is he pushes forward gets his barrier broke and than immideatly gets hooked by hog. Than sigma litteraly just flows out his shield just to ensure the ana has to watch helplessly as the reinhart dies because the reinhart has no shield to disengage. So basically the only thing that happens there is either reinhart litteraly kills the entire enemy team or he dies( because disengaging after pushing that far past cover without a shield is death.) I mean that has to be one of the stupidest play calls I ever heard from sty ever since he told a sombra to take a point blank duel with reaper instead of translacoting out simply because she can hack him.

At 31:22, the Doomfist can be seen, just right of the Reinhart, charging his punch in the direction of roughly 10 o'clock. It appear that he was trying to punch the enemy and misses hitting the side of the train. So yes! You did see the Doomfist die to the train.

26:15 Blizzard destroyed D.Va because they kept insisting she was the main reason for goats and making her unviable would kill goats...turns out that pro teams didn’t care and were still running every other character in the game in her place instead while they kept nerfing her...sombra, mei, and even reaper who was known for having bad abilities

Um what. All tanks were nerfed just not dva and yes dva was one of the best tanks in the game because of defence maxitrx because no one until sigma could do anything remotely similar. Also pro teams would experiment with other characters instead of dva and would just go straight back to dva. Also sombra and mei are picked for their ablties. The reason they were known as bad was because if you don't get value out of their ablites their useless where as before they nerf dva's defence maxitrx it was super easy to get value. You could litteraly easily eat any abltiy like nade or halt with ease because your defence maxitrx timer was practically non existent. Now dva's defence maxitrx has counter play and sigma's barrier plus kinetic grasp actually fulfils that role and since hammon is now in the game she now has more competion for her role in dive as well.

I think it's kind of amusing Sty says that, though. There was a time he complained because Dva was in every comp all the time at the higher levels and something needed to be done. This is the consequence of adjusting a hero that seemed perfectly balanced after many, many changes. (before Goats at least)

@@kuunani1962 rein got a reduction to the power of his amor and reinahrt was only good in goats because he was supported by all the other tanks unlike dva who was litteraly ran with every comp. Also dva got the most nerfs because she was the strongest off tank. She basically gave goats two seconds of damage immunity with defence maxitrx and defence maxitrx when managed properly could eat every single high impact abltiy like ultimates, ana gernade, and halt with ease and it had no counter play. Now it does have counter play and since hammond and sigma are both in the game dva now has competion for her roles where as before she simply had a 90 percent pickrate because no other tank could do her two main jobs. Now you have two dedicated tanks for each of her roles making her more like ash where she is viable especially on rank ladder but not practical.

Wright Wright that wasn’t specifically a rein nerf, that was an armor nerf to all armored characters. Rein, D.Va, Brigitte, and brig’s ult Why use Ana nades when there’s a big shield to block them and Zarya can cleanse people? Also I wouldn’t say damage immunity because all melee damage and beams ignore it...aka Rein, Zarya, and Brig They have also been reducing the need for dva by giving other options for dm. immortality field and kinetic grasp. She was only used in goats for a dm bot, now that there’s 222 and more options instead of defense matrix, they should revert some of the nerfs

I try this sort of space taking play in silver and die immediately as my supports and dps are all off dueling in other parts of the map. There's a reason that low elo barrier tanks are so timid: crap supports and dps not using the created space. A good reason why Hog and Zarya gets instalocked almost every game at low elo. They then end up doing all the killing as the dps dick about doing nothing. Still, all I can do is try to play properly and in theory I'll gain more wins than losses over time. Edit: Support main trying to pick up tanking. So painful sitting there on 30 hp begging for healing as our Mercy fluffs the Pharah andMoira is going full dps mode at the enemy team. Much respect to tank mains. It's a super stressful and often thankless job that is super dependent on your team mates (Less so with Hog, obviously). Trying to tank at 1750 is far harder than playing support at 2450, by a large margin.

I was I silver beginning of the season. I said over and over press W now!! And well I farmed shatter in 10 seconds since Everyone was having a group meeting. And then farmed on Zarya. O god the sheer damage, even against double shield Zarya was good I just side walk and melt them. They constantly feed me never went below 60%.

@@Sacredarrowable Yeah. I'm learning Zarya as well as Hog. But I'm wood tier with them right now. Did get the Zarya power award for 70%+ for 60 seconds. Lost that game as my team fed like imbeciles. Sadly you don't get proper Overwatch games until at least high gold/ plat. Otherwise it's team with less feeders on it tends to win. My favourite tanking moment was our McCree charging through my Orisa barrier to take on enemy team in a 1v3 at melee range (He died). Just utterly depressing... Next time my team start hard throwing I'll start playing Hammond, who I want to learn. If my team mates don't want to win, I'm quite happy to practice a new hero if we're going to lose anyway. Then I avoid the feeding idiots (Which are dps 90% of the time) and hope next game goes better.

So I take high ground and charge Bastion off the payload and kill him myself. I can't trust anybody in silver to do anything. My support games in gold are far far easier.

It's funny how it works. I was on Hanamura a couple days ago and saw orissa bastion and sign I think near the outside. Orissa had no fortify so I said Lerroyyyyyyyy Jenkins. 4 seconds later 3 man charge created enough space and my team finished the enemy off and got point.

Ask your team to be more aggressive and push up with you...if the enemy is pushing hard through your shield then you need more presence and more of a threat to them on the other side

Then you go aggressive and ask for your team to follow up, you may die but secure 1 kill and have your team wipe out the enemy. Tanks at higher levels need to force situations where it's 6v5 or 5v4 or take away their dps or healers.

I end up going back to league and not touching the game again until sty uploads a new overanalyzed. Sad

I thought so too but after trying them on, they are actually not that distracting also, when heroes say something in another language, it translates what they said in English (in the subtitles)

I think a lot of players specifically tanks forget they have so much health and worry about A. Not dying even though they won't always die with that much health and B. Their "plan" is to get ult charge but no one knows how to successfully get ult charge and not die while getting it. Very frustrating.

Play more. Just force yourself. You said yourself "the anxiety goes away mostly". Take that feeling and remember it. Also, if you have a particular bad game, take either a break or play your off-role (I usually go dps for some reasons)

Sty, I’m confused. I’m a high plat support player and my best hero in terms of healing per 10 in competitive is Lucio! I regularly get 15-17k in heals with skater boy. What differentiates a main healer if it’s not heals ?

I would say it's the difference between offensive and defensive ult.

Main healers has burst healing. Lucio is consistent healing. If your tank is down to 100hp, main healers can boost it to 300-400hp in 1or 2 seconds.

I have a really big problem on my pc acc im in bronze on my ps4 acc im in gold. the reason why im in bronze on my pc i cuz when i startet playing comp i just played i didnt know anything about it. Now i play bronze like i was in gold i try to just play with my team but i still cant win. I often see that when i say dont push in they just push in one after one and die. I am a main hanzo but i play many dps charakters

I'm also a low gold rein and tbh, this was low silver play to me. That rein should have been right in the choke with his shield in their faces doing fire strike quick peeks so he doesn't get hooked and swinging at the enemy while also shield dancing to not take damage, to then get his ult, jump past the sigma barrier unexpectedly and get a huge shatter and win the fight. This is for Busan first point btw.

They lost final fight on the second point (and it in general) because Moira decided "fuck it, I gotta carry" and started to dps. She should have been keeping Rein up for long enough for the second tank to get back. Moira would have been alive if she healed Rein with her ult. Rein would have been alive a few seconds earlier if Moira threw healing at him. The team effectively got solo healed by Baptiste.

She did that because the Rein wasn't aggressive enough and she stopped believing in the Rein. That's what happens when you constantly make bad decisions, people stop trusting you

I have a question and I hope that anyone could answer it to me So I wasn't playing competitive since three seasons I just play the placement matches and don't go back to comp ever But this season I started playing and because of the MMR i placed in silver And I'm just bullying those poor kids I try to climb up but sometimes my team holds me back I played around 26 games up to this point Won 17 of them And lost 9 And I'm sure that I'm at least a mid gold player or a plat My teammates don't follow up with me while pushing and rarely group up So What should I do to climb up ? I mean I'm climbing fast But I really think that i will break down soon because those silver players don't actually know how to play the game

Don't use sty for actual guides. He says a lot of wrong things in his videos. I would try looking for one of Jayne's old vods or one amongst many.
