Welcome to the mansion of HORRORS!
In programme two, the Grade One listed, 17th century Jacobean Manor, Plas Teg, stands proud in the heart of Flintshire, North Wales, and is home to 74-year-old Cornelia and her 12 cats.
This 10 bedroom Italian inspired home, with four bell towers and fine Dutch gables - one of the finest examples of early Stewart architecture in Britain -was bought by antiques collector Cornelia as a derelict shell almost 30 years ago.

Cornelia and Plasteg was also featured in Country House Rescue-back in 2008. Back then, she was better at cleaning but was running out of savings-an old boyfriend would pay for her heating (he didn’t want her to be cold all the time) so she kept a gas ring on the then working cooker on all the time. And she hoarded classic clothing in three rooms. In that program, she was given help to get the house to pay for itself by Ruth Watson with a business plan. So she was to open the house up more than once a week and have much more income by establishing the volunteer tour guides as the Friends of Plasteg, giving them more organised structure to work with and she also was to hold paying photo shoots and sell most of her collection of classic clothing by auction and get more income. Just as well as the old boyfriend decided to stop paying for her heating by the end of that program. As of 2022 the house has been closed to the public for repairs.

Hayley cracks me up every single time 😂 Love her! On another note: I'm an art historian and my hands are ACHING to make a restoration and conservation plan for this house that would both protect the house from further deterioration and even produce some cash flow. 'The house is old, so it needs to have dust and be dirty' is a *terrible* excuse not to keep it up to a good state. The original owners would roll over in their graves. No wonder it's haunted! 😅

Sadly I do believe the woman has a mental issue. She's been through losing people in her life that meant a great deal to her. Sometimes shock alters people's perceptions about themselves and life in general. Instead of it being a jolt into action to better yourself, it stunts the person and they are not capable of progressing. She once was a clean woman in those early photos. She's on her own only listening to her own self, not gaining criticisms or helpful hints or anything that would change her frame of mind, and it probably is a little bit too later for her now to change. I feel sorry for her but if she had told me on Day 1 I couldn't use modern products to clean the home, I'd have given up on her and walked out. Simple as.

She *is* the owner. She was in another show years before this one, where the host made her break up the arrangements of income from her ex partner, and made her start doing weddings instead, which went tits up, as Cornelia is a collector and curator and not a trained business woman. Though her previous arrangement with her ex was not good for the long run, the host shouldn't have meddled in her private relations, but helped her build a business, which she didn't really do. If you compare the owner from the old show to this one, you can tell she's not doing well mentally and financially, and it's clear that she's very lonely and isolated. You can tell that the owner Cornelia is clearly struggling with the realities of life and her dreams of saving, owning and running the mansion and that she has gotten out of touch with the reality of the huge task it is to take care of such a place. She's clearly clinging to her romanticised idea and dream of the place, and is in need of support and help, both practically and mentally. I don't think she's a bad person in any way, I just think she has lost her self a bit, and it's honestly quite sad. She clearly loves the place and her collection.

If I was helping out and I heard what she said, I'd ask her where she likes her things back, pack up and leave. She seems to enjoy living in that decrepit house, so I'd leave her alone. Even after knowing that something needs to change to get guests walking through her door, she seems unwilling or worse, blind. She prides herself as a "collector", to which I'd say she is a disgrace. @@nischellekhuba1481 She made some early comment that was an alarm bell to me. Something about loving objects more than people. She is definitely in a world of her own and hasn't had advice on anything for a long time. She is also too proud to admit to two young adults that are, say, 30 or 40 years younger than her, that she can't deal with life. She will get sick and she will die there, probably completely alone in that big place. I just went on the Plas Teg website and noticed it is on hold for visitors while renovating. I don't know how long the statement has been up like that and it says to refer to social media for updates. Seriously, she doesn't seem the sort that would spend time on social media sites at all. She'd have to have a computer and someone like her who can't stand to look at her own microwave while she is eating (when it has been cleaned) because she prefers to look at ancient objects, well, can you imagine her on a computer? I can't. So it is a bullshit website that she probably paid a small amount to some kid to put up to look good. I very much doubt she had a wedding reception situation start up and that video was in 2016 or so, so something is wrong if she is doing renovations NOW, 6 years later!! As for her disgusting look, I am around her age and I'm a pensioner too but I clean myself every day in the shower and wash my hair and shave and put on clean clothes EVERY DAY. There is no excuse for not being clean. The minute she said she likes a bit of dust, I would have said "Bye bye, not interested in cleaning a place like this. You have to change your attitude because I doubt you will get the help you need until you do." @@TheFiown The danger for these historical piles was in the 1950's. Hundreds demolished. I don't think weddings would be quite her cup of tea - look at the reaction to having 2 strangers even behaving themselves. One woman with very limited means will not save the house a second time. She only heats one room ! The clock is already ticking structually I would imagine. It's Wales ffs. The house needs cold, hard cash - not dizzy romanticism from a crusty old crank who thinks she's too good for a duster

It was interesting seeing Cornelia be so confused by someone being a germaphobe and incapable of understanding that, while also having her own clear mental issues around anything being moved at all. I hope she'll be able to recognize that and tackle that and actually hold a wedding, so she can live in better conditions. I loved what the cleaners had done with the candles and flowers, and you obviously couldn't hold a wedding without allowing those customers to do things like that.

I don't think either of these clowns had OCD for real, they must've been actors instead: They have few rituals if any at all and they do things no true obsessive-compulsive would EVER due like kneeling in the dusty carpet, inhale the dust until they cough without batting an eye and leaning inside the dirty bathtub while their clothing hangs touching the surface inside (they'd immediately burn them). This was, after all, a TV show.

Pretty sure I know Cornelia from her days in London. She had a beautiful house in Holland Park and was often on the Portobello road around the antique part. Her front garden was absolutely full of bric-à-brac and collectible items. I never understood why all the stuff was outside with only a fence, gate and bushes to keep it from thieves. I think she must of had a bit a break down… she did say her best friend died and the love of her life left her. This was filmed in 2015 I believe, I hope she’s happy now, she’s certainly a character. Of course she could have a doppelgänger but there are so many similarities I doubt it.

One of the few times I actually had a bit of empathy for the woman living in that mansion. She's invested her entire life with the upkeep of the house. Surprised how she has managed independently for so long. Sadly, for many people owning such properties they're forced to sell treasured and valuable objects to maintain the upkeep of the house. Having running water would make this woman feel more comfortable. The two OCD cleaners did well to work with the woman to overcome their own fears and to assist a woman who clearly needed support and help but couldn't see the extent of what help she really needed.

I had just watched an old episode of Country House Rescue with Ruth attempting to help Cornelia too and this one popped up as a suggestion. OMG Cornelia had deteriorated to being even more reclusive. Ruth attempted to get her to clean too and found out her eyesight was an issue along with her quirks. She would spend any money earned on collecting more and more antiques rather than have heating or now even hot water and no longer bathing. There was a group of volunteers helping her with the house and running the weekly tours - Cornelia would only allow one day a week. She also had a huge stash of vintage clothing that Ruth got her to sell to raise some money & could see she had hoarder tendencies. Is sad as she did restore the house from total ruin but then as she got older has let it return to ruin with all her stuff decaying due to lack of care etc. Sad all around.
