incorrect because your outer hand is on top, making it effectively impotent. Grab handle with other arm hand instead, THUMBLESS grip (false grip) and cup with the inside hand, also false grip.

The whole point is to put tension on your core and engage your abs. It's not a hand exercise, so as long as your grip is comfortable, the grip style does not matter in the slightest.
