Thanks Pan for giving an actual clear answer to the question! A lot of detailers leave us with more questions than answers in the end of their videos. If you can answer me question I will really appreciate it. Does an old wax that has remained on the car for 3-4 months needs to be removed with some process before you apply a new wax? They say that when you apply a second coat of wax you also remove the old one, so my understanding is I can wax my car every month if I wanted without using any process like special shampoos that claim this result. I also was very proud when I found out that you are Greek!
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 3 жыл бұрын
For waxes you don’t have to remove the previous coat. You just layer.
@todtalk3912
@todtalk3912 2 жыл бұрын
If you want to remove the old wax, there are what is called strip washes which help break down those waxes and sealants, they wouldn't do anything on this paint, and then when your rinsing car, keep an eye what it looked like when you did your pre rinse and see what it looks like after you strip wash to guage where your at. Also, you need to use only the strip wash because a lot of washes now have some sort of protection built into them, so if your looking to remove the old wax remember you dont wanna add new wax, even goes for clay bar, if your using a detail spray (which all clay lubes are basically a detail spray, you can do this on the cheap with many products, you might wanna re wash the vehicle again with the strip wash and be certain none of the detail spray adhered to the paint.

I think these coatings are great! I only found one thing (by accident) that can damage a coating - wheel and tire cleaner (strong commercial grade). I inadvertently splashed some on my own coated vehicle and found it an hour later. There were dull spots on the finish that I couldn't remove chemically. I went to the compound and pad to remove the coating mechanically and re-applied. Thank you for the realistic demonstration :) I think dwell time is a big factor - longer dwell more reduction in coating function.

Good afternoon, Pan. Excellent video! Some conclusions that can be made based on the experiment: 1) The ceramic coating is resistant to several automotive cleaning products; 2) The "Carpro" products that were tested proved to be safe on surfaces with ceramic coating; 3) The water repellent properties improve with a ferrous, organic washing and decontamination process and removal of acid rain stains or water stains; 4) Compounds with a more acidic or alkaline pH can interfere with the water repellency of the ceramic coating. It is suggested that other methods are necessary to remove the ceramic coating, in this case, mechanical processes. Thank you very much for the video, Pan. Great video Pan, the only suggestion I have is to clarify the difference between “PRO GRADE” vs “PROSUMER GRADE” coatings and how to remove them because most pro grades like crystal serum ultra, opticoat etc need to be wet sanded since polishing will not completely remove them with polishing alone like it will on a prosumer grade product.

Glad to help! And you are right. A good maintenance regimen is key. At least once every two or three months, once should do a good wash, possibly use a tar and iron remover, and finish with a coat of silica spray sealant to replenish the coating and ensure maximum durability and keep its properties top notch.

That was a great video! I just applied a Ceramic coating last weekend 7/17/21 and so far I love it. It is a Chemical Guys product called Carbon Force. It was very easy to apply, and seems to be forgiving for a "pro level" coating. You're right about the removal, it's really only an abrasive that is effective. I overlapped on a window by accident and didn't see it until it set up. I had to use a heavy cut medium on the glass to remove the smudge of Ceramic Coating. Thank you so much for taking the time to create these videos. I learn so much.

G'day Pan, I have now caught up with your videos. I'm glad it was your car and not mine that you did this chemical test on, as we both have the same ceramic coating (2 years old as well in Feb). The first few chemical tests was basically doing a chemical decontamination which was why the coating came back to its original form. Nice to know the coating can withstand a beating of chemicals, knowing this would not happen in reality. I finally got to chemically decontaminate my car and I used the Optimum Power Clean tip you mentioned before foaming the car, worked a treat. The decontamination brought back the hydrophobic properties like new, as did yours. I finished it with Turtle Wax Seal & Shine(new formula) as a topper. Compliments keep coming from neighbors. @SIat
@SIat 3 жыл бұрын
No consumer grade coating will survive polishing or wet sanding. A professional grade 5+ year coating might, but that’s it. I hand polished a spot on my hood a month after applying cquartz and it completely removed it in that spot. But to answer your question after you polish just use an IPA wipe down and if it’s super slick then there might be ‘some’ protection left but if it’s a little grippy then there’s nothing there. If you rinse that panel and see zero beading or sheeting that’s also another way to tell

Although ceramic coatings are amazing. Doesn't it seem like a big liability if you have to water sand the coating off? Although we always start with the least aggressive first, how does one know how much to wet sand off with a ceramic coating that is semi-permanent or permanent? Just sounds like more work and a risk at that. Thank god for Carpro because they make most of their coatings easy to remove with just a simple polish.

Great video! I appreciate your dedication to detailing, risking your own car. I do have a couple of questions: 1. Would you reccomend "weaking" the coating with one or more of these chemicals, prior to polishing off with a DA? 2. The Carpro bug remover intrigued me with its cleaning abilities. Would you reccomend this as a possible step in reviving or deep cleaning a coated vehicle?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jay! To answer your questions... 1) Not necessary. I would simply do a wash, iron remover, claybar, and start the polishing process. 2) To revive and deep cleaning a coated car, at least once every 6 months, you should wash the car, use a tar remover followed by an iron remover. Watch my 1 year update video on my coated car: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5WXqHqXoNqGjdU You wouldn't do exact all those steps on coatings that aren't as chemical resistant, but you get the big picture.

No matter what I need to do, know, see or buy in the world of detailing, Pan has a video explanation. So if you have to resort to mechanical means to remove a coating, how do you know when you've polished enough to remove the coating without taking any clearcoat? Also, what happens if you polish a coating but it's not gone and you apply a new coating? Some of the new graphene coatings say they'll stick to anything. I'm redoing a CQuartz UK 2.0. I have Ethos graphene for one car and Adams Graphene for another.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 3 жыл бұрын
Those are very hard to answer questions. You know you have removed the protection when the paint isn't beading water anymore and when the water sheeting is very slow and flat. But it's almost impossible to just remove the coating, you will be removing a bit of clear coat as well, which is normal, as you are essentially doing paint correction. It would be ideal if you have a paint thickness measurement BEFORE applying the coating, and then get readings as you are going through the compound and polishing steps and take measurements to see how many mils you are removing. But that's a bit over the top. I wouldn't worry too much with that. You wouldn't be doing this very often anyways, as most coatings these days last 2+ years.

@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't discuss with him before the test, as he had already told me when installing this coating on my car almost 2 years ago that Opti-Coat Pro+ had that pH 0-14 incredible chemical resistance, so I was quite confident coming into it. When I saw the surface being scarred by Super Clean, I spoke to him after the video was filmed, and asked if that was normal. That's when he told me not to worry about it, and that it was probably just some residue and that would eventually wash off and the coating would self-heal. And that's what I noticed a week later, hence the mini update clip in the video showing that the hydrophobics came back after a few washes.
@peterjurenovskis5933

@@PanTheOrganizer Thanks for the response. The only thing I’d add is that the chemical effect might be cumulative. Each subsequent addition of the chemicals wears on the coating (even if followed by a pH neutral soap and rinse). It would weaken the coating. It just so happens that the coating that you have applied is stronger than the total (great for you). This might not be the case with some of the weaker coatings. Great topic Pan! Keep it up and stay safe.

Pan you are my #1 go to!! Love your videos. I just applied the Avalon King DIY ceramic coating using your video as a reference and the car is awesome!! I haven’t washed it in 3 weeks. Several rain storms later it ilooks perfectly clean. All I need to do is dust it off! Great product. I do have a question. How do I apply another coat of the ceramic coating? I only applied one coat originally, but I’d like to add a second coat for longer protection.

Thanks for the kind words Isabel. Welcome to my channel. You discovered one of the biggest car detailing channels on KZbin as we surpassed 920,000 subscribers and we have over 120 million views! I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing. I'm not sure what you do to "dust off" your car, but please don't use those dry dusters, or dry wiping with a towel. The best is to always wash the car. If you only have a very light layer of dust and don't want to wash, use a good quick detail spray and a plush towel and spray the surface, and gently wipe. You wouldn't want to cause scratches or swirls in the paint by dry rubbing. For your second question, you have passed the window to apply the 2nd layer. When applying the coating, you apply the first coat, wait 45-60 min, and then apply the second coat. And you have to let it cure for 48 hours before exposing the vehicle to water or rain, and wait at least 2 weeks before washing the car again. In your case, many weeks have past since your initial application, so at this point, it's unsure if a second layer would bond properly. What you could do is fully wash the vehicle. Dry it. Use the paint prep spray to wipe the surface free of any oils or residue. And then apply a new layer. Don't forget you have to let that cure for 48 hours without rain, and then again wait 2 weeks before washing your car again.
