The way the guide worded the smeargle thing implies that it has all 3 of the moves. But it only gets the one thats good against your starter. So ember if you picked rowlet, bubble if you picked litten, or leafage if you picked popplio

About the Pokedex, it's its own book. I own both the SM guide and the SM and USUM pokedex, and let me tell you, that USUM pokedex is in double as thick as the guide or the SM pokedex itself. It's hefty, extensive and very informative. Used to rely on his rather than opening up Pokewiki for the Gen 7 games actually. Still use it for those games. This comment will be LONG. But i really wanna illustrate just how massive this book actually is. I also just went through it while writing it, so this is all accurate. Here's what the USUM pokedex includes: - an official interview with Shigeru Ohmori and Kazumasa Iwao - an interview with Ken Sugimori about the making/design of pokemon - the national pokedex (First Half, aka the short version) - a labelled map of the 4 islands - a few pages for tips on how to complete the national dex, including recommending pokeballs for different areas, different työes of encounters, what the day/night cycle is in the games, how the island scanner works and what youll find, sos-battles, ... - Egg groups of all pokemon + tips for breeding - a short section dedicated to pokemon bank and what to install - The complete national dex (second half, aka the long version) - very nice art in between sections - a list of attacks and z moves - where to find the npcs that teach different attacks and a liat of what attacks you can get where you go mantine surfing - where the move reminder and stuff is - where to find all tms - a list of abilities - a short list of what pokemon with pick up can find - a short list of natures, how they influence stats and what their favourite taste is - a list of what stats get affected when defeating certain pokemon - a list of items - a list of pokeballs - a list of z crystals - a list of mega stones - a list of pokemon sorted after attacks (and the attacks are in alphabetical order) - a list of pokemon sorted after abilities (also sorted alphabetically) - a list of the pokemon and what they're weak against - a little type chart (and if i remember correctly, the book came with a big poster of the type chart as well) + how certain types might be immune to status conditions etc. The national pokedex includes: - [FIRST HALF] - a short list of all pokemon in the national dex (with the pokemon in USUM being thick). With the page where you can find it written next to it. - a short list of special forms (megas, primals, ..) + page number - a short alphabetic list of all pokemon + page number - [SECOND HALF] - a short introduction on how these next few pages are layed out - a very in depth look at the pokemon, including everything you will find in the pokedex itself (entry, weight, where to find it, gender differences, ...), all attacks it can learn and how, special z moves, egg group, abilities, type advantages/disadvantages, evolution line and method and something i cant find an exact translation for (Artenspezifische Stärke) - mega evolutions have their own little section after the pokemon that can mega evolve with basically the same info, minus pokedex entry and attacks - regions are color coded - it has the code for the Magearna in it.

Exactly. A very important role of a guide is to show people things and provide information that the player may not notice otherwise--pretty much anyone could find their way through the main game eventually, but they would likely miss a lot of the side content (areas, quests, etc.) and post-game.

Man this gen is actually my favorite and i started back on the color. This game allows you to have every pokemon released up to this point and the megas and z moves plus the location is actually nice. I loved all the sun/moon, ultra sun/ultra moon games and ill play them for as long as i can.

Pokemon USUM is a personal favorite game of mine and despite the struggles I myself go through with the trainers and the totem Pokemon as well I still enjoy the most of it and I'm glad you had did as well. Too bad you didn't get the chance to do much of the Mantine Surfing,Photo booth or do the post game with Rainbow Rocket but hey this was still a fun experience regardless. Also side note while I do agree the Festival Plaza sucks it does have some small merit like having to go the stores and other places to help improve your Pokemon like leveling them up, getting rewards in the roulette & haunted mansion as such.

I think I actually have this guide! I haven't used it that much though as I haven't played very much of my Ultra Moon game. Also the reason there is no Pokédex in the guide is because they released a separate Pokédex book shortly after the games came out. They did this for Sun and Moon too (and maybe before then too not sure). The Sun and Moon Pokédex book had a full Pokédex plus post game information. Not sure what the USUM one has but I imagine it's similar.

I do not understand the hate for the Ultra games. They're up there with HGSS and B2W2 as my favourite mainline entries. Clocked well over 800 hours total between OG SuMo and the Ultra sequels combined.

Just because it’s not what the main stream at that time wanted and they’re mad. I have to say Pokémon fans sometimes has the most unrealistic expectation I have seen. Same thing happened with gen 5. I really think nostalgia is clouding people’s eyes a little bit. And the argument that it’s “too easy.” Just has to do with the fact that their experienced. I beat Platinum super easy after having 6 years of Pokémon experience and I don’t go around and say that game is “too easy.” Because I know it isn’t to some. People have different experiences and sometimes I think people don’t understand that.

Same it's a personal favorite of mine and it's not just because of the games story and Pokemon but the island region itself. I clocked in multiple times on taking pictures with my Rotomdex, spend time Mantine Surfing, shiny hunting in the Ultra wormholes & other parts of the islands as well clothes shopping for my avatar and taken photos at the booth. I even got one of those real life Z-rings as a collectible for Christmas, it was the best.

Bro 11 year old me wished I had a guide for these games. Sure, I was not fluid in English but I still had problems when I kinda was. It took me around a year or two to beat sun and probably a year on ultra moon. As a kid, the games where hard. Now as I’m almost 18, Pokémon games are easy peasy and when I go back to older games I can’t relate to some common spread things. For example, I thought Cynthia from platinum was probably the easiest champion I had gone up against last year.

As a 1-3 gen player (played the game when I was a kid which I would like to call it as during my prime time) of course I played every generation including Legends but now since I am an adult, my nostalgia of gen 1-3 always wins over me, I noticed that with every new generation, the games became increasingly easy. For example, in this game, we always have a guide until the end. We know what to do next. In the gameboy-advance consoles, I remember playing for hours trying to figure out what to do next and there is this sense of achievement when we finally figure things out. But the newer games are just so easy. I wish it was difficult and a pain in the *** to complete the games.

I think that if something is listed in the guide, then it should be included in a Nintended playthrough. A new Pokémon player going by the guide would probably not skip all optional content listed in the guide, since some side and post-game content mentioned will catch their eye or they will stumble across it accidentally. I would at least say to go through the main post-game story or quest. In USUM for example, after becoming champion the game continues automatically assigning story objectives until Episode RR is over, so it feels out of place not to include it.

If I remember correctly, no you don't need to have the asking pokemon in your Pokedex, just spell the name correctly,, and you'll be fine Pro tip: DO NOT go looking for trades, put up your own. The gts is pretty hacked and a good 80% of the time when looking at trades other people started, you will come across a trainer who crashes your game and needs you to restart your 3ds Also you're probably gonna get hacked lvl 100 shiny mons, not a big deal if you're just completing the dex, but don't try and transfer them forward, they're not legal

Pkm gain xp when catch a new pkm is a mistake tho, i stayed at ultra wormhole to catches legendaries and ultra beasts for a while and when i went back to the story track my pkms are already lvl 70+ i wipe out the elite 4 easily, even team rr, i thought elite 4 will be stronger when you challenge them again, but not, really disappointed, if only they can make the post game longer and add some real challenge.

I recently went to cex to buy both Pokémon ultra sun and moon and once I defeated the first “gym” and the professor sent out his rockruff to show off z moves the game just crashes I’ve gone back to the store and so far 4 copies just do the same thing ( it’s not my 3ds they tried theirs and I tried on 3 of mine ) has this issue happened to anyone else perchance and if so have you managed to fix it and how?
