The adventure continues!! In this video I make my way across 5 lakes to get to Mantario Lake. A long hot day full of hundreds of wood ticks which really slowed me down!! Although I had to keep pace I managed to find some time to fish along the way.
As I found my campsite for the night I discovered a unexpected guest!! That's backcountry camping for you, always has to be a curve ball thrown at you!!
Thanks for watching, enjoy the video!

Dude, it's ALL about the curveballs! On any of my adventures, those are the things I cherish the most!😊😊😊😊😊😊

Agree 💯- except for a muddy boggy waterless river, those curveballs can stay away 😂

Beekeepers use swiffer sheets to entangle small hive beetles in their beehives, then throw away or burn. Perhaps you could form barriers? Probably not on skin tho. Enjoy your videos and efforts to keep pushing the travel

Now that’s Interesting! I was trying to think of material that they would latch onto, maybe around the ankles in between the socks and around the waist? Perhaps an experiment next time I’m out.

Interesting to experiment with tick repellents, what worked in that environment would be an excellent product

I only used Ben’s insect repellant wipes on my neck, don’t think it did anything as it was hot and sweaty out!

Oh those ticks....I've heard nightmares about the Mantario Trail in the springtime. How many km's did you cover on this day? Thanks for posting!

Great question I had to calculate it, It was about 11km paddling and 15km portaging (double carry). Know wonder I was so tired lol, lots of hiking!

@@ManitobanOutdoors Ya that's a lot of portaging! Too many BFP's.

I paddled last year June 3-6 through Big Whiteshell loop through crowduck and around to mallard falls and back to little whiteshell to Big Whiteshell. The ticks were the worst I ever experienced. Like you min. 50 ticks one way on a portage… to top it off we got poison ivy as Indian lake is just full of it, no going around it, poison ivy everywhere. Was a fun trip though but I’ll stick to more north eastern routes as the topography is less grass and mud like the whiteshell has. Great video, I wanted to do that route for quite some time but now think I’m good lol. Have a great 2024 paddle season, can’t wait to see where you go next

Glad to hear I wasn’t the only one with tick problems! Too bad with the poison ivy, I didn’t notice any on Indian lake but on that lake, however I have never got it before even though I have walked through it with shorts a few times, maybe it doesn’t like me! Thanks for watching and enjoy the season!

If you spray your boots and pants with permitherin spray it will help reduce the number of ticks latching onto your clothes.

I was looking into that and can’t buy it in Canada, the permitherin clothing is approved but not the spray. May have to make a trip across the border
