I saw Prince in Las Cruces New Mexico 7 March 1985. My buddy had a new girlfriend who couldn't go to the concert unless her sister could go too. The sister refused to go unless she had a "date". I got roped into going to show I didn't really want to see because in 85, 19 year old me was all about hair metal and head banging. But I went, just to be a good wingman for my friend. Prince completely changed my relationship with music. He was incredible. His absolute skill as a guitarist, his stage presence and the way he connected with the audience--all of it, was transcendent. Rest in peace, Prince, and thank you for expanding my young soul.

Saw Prince live Bd he was exceptionally good. He ran around the stage on those heels and jumped up on the piano from a standing position. He was renowned for playing multiple instruments, producing, arranging and performing on his music and was a true musical genius. Have a listen to some of his albums - you will be astounded.💜 please.s. the stage costumes were a nod to the French Revolution and his royal name.

Prince: • Wrote all of his music and music for other artists. • Was a self-taught, multi-instrumental virtuoso • Was a multi-octave vocalist • Played every instrument, mixed all the tracks, recorded the master and produced his debut album solely. • Arranged and re-arranged other tracks for artists that were not his original music. • The list goes on…

When I say I loved Prince, I mean I think I got more condolences when he died than when my dad died. I’ve loved him since I was 12, I saw him live 8 different times, and each concert was an experience. I bawled my eyes out every show. He was truly a musical genius, there will never be another that can ever compare. It’s truly a privilege that I was alive during his career.

Dude played 27 instruments, played all the instruments on his first 5 albums--in addition to the crazy vocals and his dancing--he was a truly unique talent. Today's performers are not qualified to shine his boots...do youself a favor and check out the live performance from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction of George Harrison. He is on the stage with legends of rock and in the end shows him who the true boss is...
@oskarobit
@oskarobit 5 ай бұрын
Please, stop saying that about the 27 instruments... He played 27 different instruments on his first album, 27 pieces: different electric and acoustic guitars, basses, drums, piano, several keyboards, drum machines, congas, tambourine, bongos... No tenor saxophone, violin, harp, trumpets, clarinet, oboe, harpsichord... You know what I mean? His innate talent is out of the question. He mastered guitar, bass, piano and drums, but not only that: he breathed music, so he could do a solo just by thinking the notes in his head or compose a song while eating a vegan sandwich and after brushing his teeth he could record every instrument, all the vocals, mix it and produce it. There are good and very good guitarists better than Prince (no doubt!), but only a few can say the same with a second instrument, composing, writing lyrics, or as showmen. He moved effortlessly through such a variety of styles. No one living or dead can match his enormous and diverse talent. Moreover, he was always ahead of his time musically and in other related aspects: things like giving away a record with a newspaper, predicting the chaos of music on the internet or fighting for the masters and intellectual property of his works. PS: He was responsible for the sticker with the famous words "Parental Advisory, explicit lyrics". I have been a Prince fan for at least 4 decades and have attended 3 concerts, own about 120 CDs (many live bootlegs), 30 vinyl albums, 2 dozen VHS and almost as many DVDs and Blu-rays. I've also watched 90% of every piece on KZbin, from music to interviews, artists talking about him and his former band members telling their stories with him. I think I know a little bit about Prince.
@IvoMaropo
@IvoMaropo 5 ай бұрын
@@oskarobitHe did not master the piano. This is an INSANE statement. The same goes for the drums. He was FAR from mastering it. On the guitar, though, he was something else.
@oskarobit
@oskarobit 5 ай бұрын
@@IvoMaropo maybe "master" means different things in my language and I did a bad translation. I meant he was very good, very very good at both . And you can find drummers a keyboardist saying what I said. For some reason he was respected by pianists like Elton John and Herbie Hancock. We can't not ask now to Miles Davis why he said Prince could play as good as his band members. I've watched him dwelling Michael B, drummer Versus drummer and it was amazing. Are you a musician with bigger background than the mentioned? Let me doubt it. BTW, please don't think I'm a consumer of mainstream shit, half the music I listen to, every day, is jazz.

@@oskarobit I’m not getting what you mean-I said he played 27 instruments, you said he played 27 different instruments-and I never said anything about sax or violin, just repeating what I read about his first 5 albums. I have zero doubt you know more about him than I-I was simply a fan who never got to see him play live, one of my greatest regrets. To see him play would have been incredible-he is on my list along with Stevie Ray Vaughan of people I wished I’d seen live.
@oskarobit
@oskarobit 5 ай бұрын
@@tombanaski3251 i wrote "instruments". You know some words have multiple meanings right? Let me put in other words. One piano and one violin are two instruments. A Gibson Epiphone and a Mad Cat (two guitars) are two instruments. Ok now? This is what Prince used and play in "For You", the usual rock instruments like guitars, keyboards, drums, basses... Different models of each kind to make a total of 27: EQUIPMENT · Vocals - Neumann U67 · Guitars - Alvarez 5055 Jumbo (assumed) / Fender Stratocaster (assumed) · Effects - Mutron Bi-Phase · Basses - Orr Bass · Synthesizers - Arp Pro Soloist / Arp String Ensemble / Moog Minimoog / Moog Polymoog 203a (credited as "Ms Poly Moog") / Oberheim 4 Voice · Pianos and Keyboards - Fender Rhodes / Hohner Clavinet / Unknown acoustic piano Drums - Pollard Syndrums / Slapstick, wind chimes, water drums, bongos, bell tree, wood block / Unknown acoustic drum kit

I live right down the street from Paisley Park. I've never seen such profound sadness when he died. The streets for blocks, including the highway were closed for days and no one complained. I walked over there everyday stayed for hours talking with folks from all over the world. Ssooooo much incredible fan art and tribute pieces. The estate kept it all, well most of it, and its on display in Paisley Park. I had the privilege of seeing him perform multiple times as well as seeing him in person casually, a few times. Super nice person. And when I tell you his smile would light up the room, Lord!!

I'm a life long Prince Fam. I love your reaction and appreciation of the video. You'll really appreciate it with the proper background info. To fully appreciate what you've witnessed you need to go back in time to 1983. Most people didn't have a computer in their home; and the internet was in its infancy. Most people were just getting cable and MTV was the biggest thing. Purple Rain isn't just a song. Purple Rain is the soundtrack to the motion picture with the same name. In 1983 Prince had several hits from 1999 and it was time to renegotiate his contract with Warner Brothers. He told his management he wanted to make a movie. Prince was told it was unlikely they could get such a deal because Prince was still relatively unknow. Fast forward Warner Brothers caved and granted the request. Prince had been working on the movie and soundtrack while on the 1999 tour. "When Doves Cry", was the first single from the soundtrack, hits #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 before the movie is released. In early June of 1984 "Lets Go Crazy" is released; it also goes to #1 on Billboard. The video uses clips from the movie. So, its like a movie trailer/video all in one. By the time the movie is released on June 25, 1984; its a must see. Then, "I Would Die 4 U" was released hitting #8 on Billboard. Purple Rain was the best thing since hot cakes. Until........Tipper Gore, wife of Vice President Al Gore, found her tween daughter listening to, "Darling Nikki", which also appears on the soundtrack. The first line of the song is, " I knew a girl named Nikki. I guess u could say she was a sex fiend. I met her in a hotel lobby master bating with a magazine. She said," how'd u like to waste some time?" and I could not resist when I saw little Nikki grind". This led to US Senate hearing and the Parental Advisory sticker that now appears on media. By the time the tour starts Prince is the biggest rockstar on the planet. This was the concert event of the decade. Back then you had to go to a ticket outlet to get a line ticket which determined your place in line to buy the actual concert ticket. I was a 16 year old high school junior. I told my grandmother I was going to get a line ticket and didn't know what time I'd be home. That was around 4:30 in the afternoon; I got back around 9:00 AM the next day. I also spent the night in line to buy the concert ticket. In the spring of 1985 Prince graced St. Louis, MO with his greatness. Seeing Prince wasn't going to a concert, it was a transcending experience. One part burlesque show, one part music concert, one part circus, one part church revival, who wouldn't want to be a member. You need to understand this is the last song of the show. Do yourself a favor and watch the rest of the concert. Prince's records are great but his live shows are where he really shines. The Revolution: Prince, Wendy Melvoin- lead guitar, and her life partner Lisa Coleman-keyboards, Bobby-Z on drums, Dr. Fink-keyboard, and Brown Mark on bass. BTW Prince doesn't just play guitar; its like an extension of his body. Prince plays 27 instruments. He only needs a band to tour because he can't play all the instruments at the sometime. He'll also give any dancer you know a run for their money. Should you continue down this rabbit hole, Welcome to the Dawn. While the videos are great, the live performances are so........................ much better! He has a song for every mood and occasion. If you're looking for a club banger check out "Erotic City", or "Get Off". Maybe you're looking for a panty dropper dive into "Adore", or "Shhh". Perhaps you need an aerobic workout, put on, "America" the live version. One last tip: the videos you've seen are the radio versions of the song. You must listen to the 12 inch, aka Maxi Single, Dance or long versions. You see the master flip a pop song to an r&B song and back.

Was that the one at cobo hall? If so, my aunt was his waitress after the event and after they served all the musicians, he had held back 8 meals. They fed the staff! My aunt was on cloud nine. She said, Prince poured me wine!" And he tipped very very well. ❤🎉

Greatest guitar solo of ALL TIME: Prince, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” 2004 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood, et al. He didn’t even show up for rehearsal. He just walked onstage, absolutely nailed it, threw his guitar to the heavens, & walked away. ✌🏼

And performances like that was why that short man with the high heels, feathered boa, skin tight leather pants and a very quiet manner when not onstage could walk into any room and walk out with any woman he wanted (even if she was already spoken for). 💜💜💜

Not only was Prince an Epic Guitar Player but he could play every instrument in the band and play everything better than his band members. Dude was amazing. Funny Prince story. When I was 17 my sister was 15 and she wanted to go to the Prince concert. The only way my mom would let her go was if I chaperoned. I wanted nothing to do with going to see Prince. My mom bought me 2 tickets so I could take someone so I caved and went. Turned out to be one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I was a Prince fan from that night on.

As many others have said, watch his superbowl appearance. It was pouring rain. He was going to play the electric guitar (not surprising). Electricity and water typically don't mix. He refused to not play. To paraphase him, "They're here for a show and we're giving them one" and DAMN... it was friggin awesome.

I saw Prince perform live in Berlin, Germany in May 1987 on his "Sign of the Times" Tour, two weeks before I immigrated to the United States. It was an indescribable, forever memorable experience. My wife and I decided to go home after the concert, just to find out from our friends the next day that Prince went to the club we had planned to go to and had a jam session with the band that was playing that night. What a missed once-in-a-lifetime event; you just never know.

Seen him live 16 times! Best live performer that has ever lived. Stopped buying his albums after Sign The Times, but still went to every concert I could get tickets for. The live versions of his songs were always very different and so much better than the album takes. Over the years I dragged metalheads, jazz fans, industrial new romantics, etc to his concerts - they joined reluctantly and every single one of them was flabbergasted by his performances. I missed his last concert in Europe and suddenly he wasn't among us any more. I was devastated, an era had ended.
