They call them macaroni penguins because the people who discovered them thought they looked like soldiers because of the way they stood, and their feathery tufts looked like military regalia, Civil war era american soldiers colloquially referred to their own military regalia as Macaroni. Remember the song Yankee Doodle Dandi, "stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni"

I hate to correct the expert but the biggest ever penguin discovered wasn't an Antarctic Penguin, it was a New Zealand Penguin.

I love to correct Jim, Little Blue Penguins/Fairy Penguins aren't exclusively found on Phillip Island, they're pretty common in New Zealand.

My conclusion is that a Kiwi banged this guy's girlfriend in university, New Zealand has more penguin species than Antarctica yet the only one that was mentioned was the Little Blue and the expert didn't challenge the claim that they're only found of Phillip Island which isn't even true just within Australia.
